Can I Remove Skin Tags at Home?

J.Gunsch
J.Gunsch

Skin tags can be irritating and unattractive, especially when they seem to pop up continuously. Making frequent trips to a physician to remove skin tags can be just as irritating. You can remove skin tags at home, however, and there are several ways that you can do it. No matter which method is used, if you notice a possible infection in the area where a skin tag was removed, be sure to consult a dermatologist or your usual medical doctor about the problem.

Identify the Growths

You can remove a skin tag by tying a section of thread around the tag tightly and snipping the excess skin off with sharp scissors.

Before you attempt to remove skin tags, you should be completely certain that you are dealing with skin tags rather than more serious growths. A skin tag is very small and grows slowly, never reaching a size greater than half an inch (1.27 cm). It might appear to be a flap of skin or a small, round mass attached to the skin by a peduncle, or stalk. The skin tag should be soft and movable, with a pigmentation that is similar to the rest of your skin or slightly darker.

Tie-and-Snip Method

After you have established that the growths are skin tags, you can begin to remove them. One way to do this is to tie a piece of thread or dental floss tightly around the base of the skin tag. Then, with thoroughly cleaned, sharp scissors or a nail clipper, cut the skin tag off above the material that you tied around the base.

After you remove skin tags using scissors or clippers, make sure that you keep the areas clean with peroxide or antibacterial ointment until they are healed. This procedure is relatively painless and is similar to the procedure that a doctor might perform. A skin tag should not appear again on the same site, but if it does, you should consult a physician.

Drying Paste Method

Another method to remove skin tags that does not yield immediate results — but is far less intrusive — involves creating a mixture of castor oil and baking soda. Mix these two ingredients together to form a thick paste and apply it frequently, as often as several times a day, to the skin tags. Eventually, usually within two weeks, the skin tags will dry up and disappear.

Commercial Products

Some people remove skin tags at home by purchasing and applying solutions that are designed for wart removal. Many people who try them find these products more effective at removing skin tags than they are at removing warts. There also are many over-the-counter products that are specifically designed to remove skin tags at home. You can try these products to determine whether they are effective, or you can try the quicker method of snipping off the skin tags yourself.

After reading these posts, I felt comfortable snipping off a skin tag on my left eyelid. I doused some nail clippers in rubbing alcohol, pulled the tag out, and snip!

No ice, no thread, few drops of blood, no pain. A little antibiotic ointment and my eye is tag free!

I can't believe it took this long to get the nerve to do this! I had a small grape sized tag behind my armpit that was bugging me for years!

I first tried to tying dental floss around it but after a week and a half, it got swollen and I could feel pressure at the base. I came to this site hoping to get some perspective from others. Your stories were encouraging! It was after reading 25 testimonials that I decided to just cut the stupid thing off.

I had to read 50 more to convince my wife that I wasn't going to be hemorrhaging to death. I don't have insurance either, so add another reason why I waited so long.

I applied hydrogen peroxide to the scissors, the tag, and a cotton ball that was waiting in the wings. She pulled back and I cut it off. Thankfully it was a clean break. She left feeling woozy and I cleaned up. It bled for about five minutes, then I applied neosporin on a gauze pad and kept going on with the rest of my day.

I didn't feel any pain, just pressure at the base from my wife pulling the tag away from me.

I can't tell you how liberating this has been! I'm now encouraged to get rid of the other one that's on my leg. Thank you guys for your testimonies. I hope my story helps others as well!

anon83402

Good article! I tend to get small skin tags on my chest, and I've found it's easiest for me to use ice for numbing and then snip with a sterilized nail clipper. I don't think I'd have the guts to use the nail scissors! I just did one that's bleeding a little more than usual, like cutting myself shaving, I should have clipped it sooner when it was smaller. Good luck to you all!

anon83204

After reading 56 of these posts I decided I was just going to snip it off! I've been so tired of being embarrassed by it. My mom was trying to talk me down and tell me to go to the doctor and all that.

I'm a wimp when it comes to pain, but I didn't feel anything at all. I started with the thread method and after less than 10 minutes got tired of waiting for it, I iced it for a few minutes, sterilized the scissors, pulled the string and was so nervous I snipped it right off without noticing any pain. It bled for about an hour with direct pressure, but now it has stopped.

It's currently dressed with neosporin and a band-aid. Thanks so much for the help!

I have a very very very big skin tag on my butt cheek.("never reaching a size greater than ½ inch (1.27cm)" is not true. There are some cases of giant skin tags and mine is also about 2cm).

I was too ashamed to tell anyone about it. Now after some time I decided to try the fish wire method some weeks ago.(Must be about one month ago now.)

I first strapped one wire tightly around the root of the skin tag. After one week nothing changed, I decided to put more wires more tightly around it, because maybe I didn't put the last one right. So I put three more wires as tight as possible around the root.

About one week later the top of the tag began to bleed when I did sit on the skin tag. I don't know what happened. After another week it did cure well. The top started to get black and hard.

Now, after like three weeks, I looked into the mirror and more of it got black as I saw. It's pretty black and very hard.

I read about that, if putting wire around the root it will start to rot(get black) and will fall off after some time.

I think it worked! Though I've got to be careful, it could be something different of course to. But at this point it looks like it's rotting.

I'm very glad about that. I'll wait and see how it will turn out. I hope the people saying it just falls off told the truth. That would be just great.

anon82764

i wish i read this first. I bought dr scholls and did it and still had it after weeks and I decided to cut it off. 30 bucks cheaper and just a pinch. no problem.

anon82294

Just did it. It hurt a little more than I thought it would. Large skin tag on my nipple with good sized stalk. Still bleeding 15 minutes later. Glad it's gone!

anon81878

Thanks so much for all the advice! I had a rather large skin tag under my arm and worried for ages about removing it.

I thought it was too big to cut off myself, but after reading this thread I bit the bullet and went for it! i cleaned the area and sterilized my scissors. After numbing the area with ice, my boyfriend "snipped" away!

I am no good with pain, but this was nothing! A little pinch maybe, but it lasted a second. To be honest, the worst part was getting ready and the thought of doing it. I can't believe I spent so many years trying to hide it and worrying about it! It did bleed for a good half hour, but only a small oozing, nothing major!

Anyone out there still worrying about it, don't! It's simple, painless and over in seconds!

anon81232

I was so scared to remove my two skin tags so I asked my friend to it. I couldn't believe that it didn't hurt at all. (It just feels like someone's pinching you for a second).

I wish I would have found this web page sooner.

anon80902

Thanks. Just removed one from my underarm. I did not use any cotton etc. No big problem - a little blood but nothing that some tissue and an hour won't resolve. If anyone is thinking about this, just do it.

anon80006

Thank you. I'm currently without insurance and this was so helpful. I was really alarmed when I found a large skin tag on my side today, and I'm so happy to have removed it since I have an upcoming trip to the beach. A little ice numbed the skin well. Thank you for the honest remedy.

anon79877

Thank You so much for the advice!!

I absolutely hate pain, so even this was frightening for me. I had one on my shoulder and one near my belly button. The first one I did took a while for me to actually get the courage to cut it off, but once i realized that it only felt like a pinch (that was over in less than a second) I felt confident to do the second one.

It is so simple and really doesn't hurt, so don't be afraid to do it. Just get it over and done with and you will realize this! I have one more on my neck which I have to do next and I am totally fine about it. Thank you!

anon79294

I've been wanting to get rid of this skin tag on my neck for so long and now its gone!

I was going to get Dr.Scholl's skin tag removal that i saw on TV but after reading bad reviews about it, I changed my mind. good thing i found your site.

So I found a sharp scissor that i sanitized with hydrogen peroxide. I uses ice for five minutes to make it numb. didn't even use floss or anything. i just cut it right away -- no pain at all! there's bleeding but i put band aid on it. Awesome! I wonder if i can do the same on my face (skin tag)? but I'm scared.

anon79237

Thanks for the article. I had two skin tags in the *most* embarrassing location and have become so self conscious while being intimate with my husband. I googled and found this info and Voila! No more embarrassing skin tags! I soaked my eyebrow scissors for 20 minutes in peroxide, used cotton balls with peroxide to clean the sites, used a magnification mirror and snip snip! All gone!

anon79166

i have a big skin tag between my bottom and private area and its starting to hurt but don't want to remove it myself in case something goes wrong. what is the best thing to do with this.

anon78010

Wow! This was easy. thank god for this website.

anon77309

I just want to also post about this. I have had a skin tag for about six months now. It has bugged me and is under my arm and wearing clothes bugs it.

It wasn't until my youngest was asking what it was that I really became self conscious about it. I had read a couple of months before about being able to cut it off, I was too chicken--now I wish I had.

I did not freeze it or use any ice, but sterilized the scissors. I cleaned the area with soap and water--then I pulled on the skin tag to draw it away from the skin so I could easily cut it. It was tough. I wished I had someone to do it.

I put the scissors around the area to be cut and slowly closed in. I almost chickened out, when I finally just said go for it! I hate pain and have never cut anything on myself except nails, and it was like a tight pinch.

It did bleed for about five minutes, but it looks like a small cut on my area and I bandaged it up so it could heal with neosporin. I am so happy I did it and it is gone!

anon76800

Cut of a skin tag near to my eye. No pain, but the bleeding isn't stopping. Hopefully it will stop soon. Thanks for the info.

anon76605

I will try these ideas. i have burned some off before and works well. Touching the skin tag with

something metal after heating it under a flame makes

the tag dry up and fall off.

anon76429

just did it. it hurt a bit but was well worth it. i feel so relieved. it is bleeding a little bit.

anon76331

Thank you! What a great website. I just got up the courage to remove my own skin tag from my nipple. I iced the area for five minutes, sanitized, then snipped away with sanitized nail clippers! Amazing! No pain and not one drop of blood. Thank you, now my husband will stop making fun of my third nipple!

anon75978

you'd think that after almost 500 comments of reassurance, that I'd believe it was no big deal! i was so scared, but seriously, it didn't even hurt. and it bled for like half a second. i will never let a skin tag get in the way of my confidence again!

anon75104

Can't believe that i did this as well. It was as simple and painless as everyone else has said. I used some thin floss to tie off four tags (two on neck, one on eyelid and one on armpit -- all about 3-4mm in size.

I left them for a few hours, then used alcohol swabs to numb and sterilize area and then sterilized nail scissors to cut them off.

Quick, easy, no pain and only some blood from the one on eyelid, which I've put down to not tying floss around it as tight as others. Don't be squeamish. Give it a go. You will not regret it.

anon74913

OK i had a big skin tag on my neck and i cut it off with some scissors. It didn't hurt one bit. i am so glad i don't have it anymore. it was big!

anon74796

yes, now how would you remove one of these from one of your testicles? like i think something bad could happen if i tried to remove it.

anon74618

I didn't even need to use a string or floss. Just sterilized nail clippers and the area and removed a medium sized tag from my neck. Then I noticed about four or five other small ones and easily removed them as well. Excellent site.

anon74345

I chickened out! i cut it a little and couldn't anymore! I might just buy the kit to do it at home! Good luck to the rest of you!

anon74339

I also have a skin tag. I have had it since forever. it's on my nipple and for the longest time I had no idea what it was -- I just thought I was weird and the only person in the world to have it!

I haven't cut it off yet, but I am trying to get the courage to do it! I can't see myself cutting myself. I'm going to try right now. I hope I can do it! But if I can't it is still nice to know that I am not alone in the world! Thanks for this site!

anon73711

Didn't know i could do this at home. Just a pinch! Bled for about five minutes. Good luck everyone.

anon72902

I've had a little skin tag on the back of my neck/shoulder for a while and it's really been bugging me. Finally, after seeing this website and all of the comments, I just bit the bullet (although none of the drama was even necessary!).

I washed the area by just dabbing some hydrogen peroxide on it and sterilized some manicure scissors by soaking them in some hydrogen peroxide. Then I just put ice on it for about five minutes until it was completely numb and then just snipped it off with the scissors.

Not even an ounce of pain and only a minuscule speck of blood!

anon72598

I have had these two skin tags for a couple of years now. They were on the top of my thighs in my groin area and about 1/4 inch long. One had a thick stalk while the other had a small one. My wife thought they were pretty gross (who can blame her) and I was too embarrassed to go to the Doc to have them removed. I do not have health insurance at the moment, anyway, but was lucky enough to find this site.

My wife refused to help me so I went to Sally's beauty supply and bought a new cuticle nipper and a straight edge toenail clipper. I bathed my tools in alcohol and put them on a sterile pad to dry off. I tied the dental floss to the bottom of the tags close to the skin pulled them up, slid the flat nose clipper in and clipped them off.

I have absolutely no tolerance for pain, but I can honestly say that it hardly hurt at all. I cut three off my thighs and three off my neck area. I still have a few more to go under my arms and a couple of small ones on my thighs that were difficult to reach. I will get them in a couple of days.

Just do it - it is not that bad - really! Thank you all for sharing!

anon72331

I had an skin tag on my upper-inner left thigh. It was the size of a pea and had really started to bother me when I would walk. It would rub against my leg and get irritated.

I read the nurses article and decided I can remove this myself! (awesome) I really didn't want to go to a doctor. I followed the instructions. I used dental floss to tie it off, put ice on it for about ten minutes or so. I made sure it was good and numb.

I cleaned the area, took a deep breath and snipped with some scissors. I couldn't believe that I didn't feel anything at all! I was more afraid of the build up to the snip I guess.

I did bleed for about 30 minutes before I could put a couple of band aids on it. All better now.

Thanks for the advice!

anon72250

After reading many of the posts on this site for two days, I gained the courage. I went to a dermatologist about five or so years ago and had a skin tag removed from the edge of my nose. Let me tell you, it hurts much worse to have three shots of numbing medication put in your nose! The doc told me it's possible it may come back.

It was small so I sterilized my tools, took a pair of tweezers and pinched it at the base. When I felt it was basically numb I took my cuticle scissors and snipped. No pain whatsoever. It did bleed for about 10 minutes.

I cleaned it up with a cleansing wipe and put some ointment and a bandage on it. It didn't take it long to stop bleeding.

Now, I am sterilizing my tools for the one that has come up about an inch under my left eye. This really is not a painful process, that is why I am going to remove the one under my eye!

anon71996

I used ice and orajel to numb the skin tag before removing with very sharp nail scissors. Worked well and no pain.

anon71840

I have a burning sensation around my anal hole. what can I use to make it heal or not burn so much when I wear clothes.

anon71668

I have had two skin tags on my butt cheeks for several years. I was too embarrassed to tell my doctor about them, or anyone else, for that matter. I just figured I would live with them. After reading many of the posts on here, I decided to go ahead and remove them. I sterilized my scissors with hydrogen peroxide and numbed the area with an ice cube.

The larger tag, which is very near my crack, was very hard to get to. I finally was able to get hold of it and started cutting with the scissors. I started bleeding excessively and the pain was horrible. I was really scared about the amount of blood that was pouring out of me and started to feel light headed. Eventually, it stopped and after cleaning the area I realized I didn't get the base of the tag. A little flap of skin is still there.

I am now too scared and sore to even try and get the rest of it. Now I wish I would have just gone to the doctor.

I am far more embarrassed now to tell him I attempted to do it myself and didn't get it all. I am hopeful that because I did get most of it that once it heals, the base will die and fall off on its own. Is that just wishful thinking? I am not even going to attempt to get the second one after that experience.

anon71605

What a buzz! I'm getting married in seven days. I've had a pea sized tag on the base of my neck/ top of shoulder forever, but it's been getting bigger, i think, or I've just been getting paranoid about it.

So, I'm wearing a strapless dress for the wedding and last week, I all of a sudden decided to do something about it. So I got to researching and all I found was advice to tie it off, so I did that three days ago.

Today it started to go black and hard. When i first did tie it off it swelled up a bit and oozed clear fluid. Gross!

So, tonight i decided to have another research and I found this page and read about half way through. I jumped up got some ice and sharp sterilized scissors and iced it for a few secs then started to cut it off. It hurt a little, like a pinch. I had a break then went in again, and off it popped. No blood!

I put some antiseptic cream on it and strapped it up and I'm so happy! Yay! Thanks for giving me encouragement to do it! no more gross skin tag for the wedding! woot!

anon71551

I just read the article and got real brave. I had two skin tags on my stomach area and I sterilized some really sharp scissors and cut both of them off. One was big and the other one smaller and it did not hurt at all. The bigger one did bleed a bit and I put antibiotic ointment on both of them and a band aid and am good to go. Thanks.

anon71260

Had a small skin tag between my groin and leg on the right side, directly on the crease. I shaved and plucked all hair in the area surrounding the tag. I disinfected a pair of manicure scissors using hydrogen peroxide.

I washed my hands and iced for around 10 minutes. Then I wiped the area with hydrogen peroxide and took a deep breath.

I pulled on the tag while snipping it with the scissors and immediately wiped it with a cotton ball I drowned in hydrogen peroxide. Got another cotton ball and held it there about 5 to 10 minutes to slow the bleeding.

While doing that I prepared a bandage, used a big knuckle one since that was the only one I had, and applied some neosporin on the bandage and then put it on the wound.

I have to say, while doing it I almost stopped halfway but managed to keep going. When I was done I was shaking and scared. It didn't bleed that much when I held the cotton ball on but when I took it off to check it bled more then I expected it to.

All in all, I think next time I could have held the cotton ball on a little longer before applying the bandage to the wound. Or used a wart remover instead.

anon70886

Great site, I had this skin tag, way down below the privates, about the size of a large raisin. I tied it off with a piece of thread, which was quite hard to do as I needed to use a mirror to even see it, the thread pinched a little but it wasn't to bad.

For the next couple of days the tag swelled up quite large and became quite sensitive, and I figured that I hadn't cut off the blood supply completely, so I tied another loop of thread on it, but that didn't do the job either.

For the next attempt, I iced it down for about 30 minutes, I squeezed it and couldn't feel anything, so I took some sharp hair cutting scissors and with a mirror I attempted to cut it off, however it was hard to see. As many have said, count 1, 2, 3, but with a sense of pain on the horizon, this is easier said than done. Finally I just squeezed the scissors quickly, and nothing, at least I thought nothing as I looked at the scissors they were completely covered in blood, so I sat on a towel. The bleeding lasted for about 45 minutes, a lot of blood at the beginning and then it tapered off.

I never felt a thing, and the tag was on the towel, what a relief. Cutting them off really works. Thanks for all of the info.

anon70551

Wow, I did it! I've had this skin tag for ages! I had some school work to do and as usual found myself procrastinating.

I decided to look up some skin tag removal methods (thinking of topical medications) and found this site.

As I was reading everyone's posts, I thought, they're crazy. But halfway through reading the posts, I decided to get my nail clippers, sterilize them by placing them in a pot of boiling water, followed by some alcohol. Iced the skin tag. Swiped the tag and surrounding skin with alcohol. Then held the clippers to the tag and applied very little pressure.

I tried counting to three but couldn't get past one. So I just squeezed. Whenever I felt pain, I just held it there and stopped squeezing until the pain went away.

Before I knew it, I had clipped it off. Well, half of it anyway. I got the remaining portion off as well.

There were only a few drops of blood. I've got the band aid on and happy the skin tag is gone!

anon70114

just snipped mine off! I had two on my neck for years. I swear, i never really thought of them until tonight when I wondered why I'd never taken care of it before. This is the best site I could have ever found!

I numbed the area with ice (just in case!) i had some fine thread at home and tied them both with that. I snipped them off with tiny scissors and there was no pain involved! Sheesh, to think, in less than five minutes i took them off when I'd been carrying them around for years!

anon70104

Well, I'm a big weenie and I pass out when I get a flu shot, so wouldn't you know, I cut the darn thing in *half* instead of off. Jeez. It didn't hurt though.

anon69748

OK so this website is awesome, awesome, awesome! I had (with had being the keyword) a skin tag growing for over a year now. It was on the inside of my right thigh not too far from my vaginal area. The thing was making me sick and looked terrible.

I had been considering going to the dermatologist to have it removed but I never seemed to have the time or the money. I found this article and after reviewing the multiple posts, I grabbed my new scissors, some antiseptic, bandages, and an ice pack. I kept the ice on for less than five minutes because I just wanted to get it over with.

I cleaned, pulled, took a deep breath, and then cut! I had very little discomfort but more blood than I expected. I held pressure on it and then put some ointment on, followed by a band aid and boy, do I feel great! That ugly thing made me feel so self-conscious during the most intimate times in my life but no more!

Thank you so much and I am sure that if one ever rears its ugly head again,I will ice and cut right away!

anon69397

Like everyone else, I hated these horrible tags and was afraid to remove them myself. I read all the comments here, took a deep breath and did it! So, so happy and thankful for all the advice. It was easy and I am so much happier (mine were on my face and neck). Talk about hating to look in the mirror!

Thanks again to all of you, and to those who are reading and are still scared: just do it!

anon69325

i agree with someone who posted way up above.

using hair or thread is much better than dental floss; floss is too thick.

i tried with dental floss, only managed to cut half of it off and then had to re-tie some thread around it while it was bleeding.

i still think i may not have cut enough off as it is still bleeding quite a bit, but it doesn't hurt at all.

i might wait and see what happens and then give it another go once it has healed some.

but it was so much easier than i thought it would be and once i decided i was going to do it, I just did it.

anon69286

OK, after reading these comments I just did it. The longer one hanging on my armpit took more pressure on the scissors than I thought but just a pinch and no bleeding.

The smaller ones around my neck came off like a charm, with just a drop of blood on some.

Why did I wait so long?

I'll keep them clean with soap and water and peroxide.

anon68466

Phew! So glad that is gone! It really wasn't bad. The worst part is the anticipation. I was a giant chicken and sat in the bathroom thinking about it for over an hour.

I used ice, alcohol and large toenail clippers. Once I got the nerve to clamp down on the clippers, the skin tag came right off with no blood and no pain! Amazing! Thanks for the advice.

anon68198

I used to have one in my armpit. It was annoying as hell, I would always nick it when shaving or I would be left with a few hair around it if I really tried to avoid it.

A few years ago I tied it off with a piece of string. Reckoned if it couldn't get any blood it would just die off. Took a little over a week, but it eventually turned black and fell off.

It did take a while to heal (was kind of 'gooey' for a while). Now it's a little pink mark that I can shave right over which is great! I had two more, but they didn't really bother me.

I even thought the one underneath my boob looked kind of sexy. Lately it's really been bugging me though because it's right underneath the wire of my bra. I finally decided it just had to go. With the first one I didn't do any research, but I figured I should google to see what else I could do that was perhaps quicker.

I tried clipping it, but it just wouldn't come off. This did start a little cut at the base though. So I broke open one of those razors all girls have and used one of the little blades to cut it off. They are a lot sharper!

Soon I was holding a piece of dental floss with the skin tag attached to it and not my skin! It did bleed a bit, but seems fine now. I figured since I was on a roll I might as well take off the one on my neck as well. Now I am (almost) skin tag free!

I hope it will heal a bit faster this time. Guess I already took over a week off because I didn't have to wait for it to die!

To everyone thinking about it: if you want it off, just do it! The longer you think about it, the bigger it becomes in your mind, while in fact, it's just like a paper cut. I really liked reading all the comments. Thought most people would go to a doctor for this kind of stuff, but I guess I'm not the only DIY-er out there!

anon67991

I've found the best way to remove skin tags (that are in an easy to access area), is to cut off its blood supply. I did this by using my very own hair.

It sounds gross, I know, but it works. Instead of tying a string or dental floss around it (which is so conspicuous), a long strand of hair works just fine. Tie it tightly around the tag. If the hair strand is too long, cut the ends, leaving enough at the ends to be able to pull it tight. This will effectively cut off the blood supply.

I continued to tighten it every so often. This didn't hurt, just pinched a bit.

In two days, I was able to tug on the skin tag and just pull it right off. There's not even a scar - just a small pink mark where it was!

This has saved me from a doctor's visit and hundreds of dollars.

anon67477

Went to the dermatologist today and had 2 SKs removed and 6 skin tags. The doctor snipped the tags with a pair of scissors that looked just like my wife's cuticle scissors. That was it.

I told the nurse that I had removed some on my own before the same way and she said a lot of people do. I won't be going back to the doctor to remove tags again.

Do it yourself, and use pressure to stop any bleeding. Save some money and time.

anon67270

I've removed about 10 over the past few years, inner thigh, arm pit, neck, etc. After tonight's "procedure" I decided to see if anyone else snipped their own, and wow! My Peeps! Glad to meet you all!

Seriously though, all I've ever done is use a pair of small diagonal cutters I had in my garage, which pinches them off. I get real low on the tag and slowly squeeze, if I get even a little sharp tinge of pain, I stop, but don't release.

I keep the pressure on it until the pain (and I'm talking miniscule pain, really) completely goes away in about 10-20 seconds, then squeeze some more (and stop again if I feel anything), and poof, off it goes with no pain at all, a little bleeding, and they heal up like nothing was there. The first one I ever cut off I was shaking and scared, but now they go without a second thought. Next time I might try using string, but for me it seems like more trouble than it's worth. Free yourselves, you *can* do it. :)

I found this website and read the comments posted. I finally got up the courage to cut my skin tags off. It worked by holding an ice cube on the area for about 2-3 minutes and then using sterile sharp manicure scissors I clipped them off. Very little pain or bleeing. I am so glad I found this website. I hope it helps someone else get rid of their skin tags.

I have had my skin tag (armpit area) for about 15 years...if not more. Not sure why today was the day I was going to get rid of it...but it was! Started researching the different oils and creams but nothing looked like a guaranteed result. Found this webpage while searching for reviews on products and remedies. I admit, reading all the posts was quite nauseating but half way through I thought...you can either sit here feeling ill as you read all this or get your antiseptic, some clippers, and get this over with!! *Done*! Typing this with one hand...other hand is holding an icepack to my newly tag free ampit! Yay! Thanks guys.

anon66065

I bought some "Super cold" for about $12 CAD from my local electronics supplier.

Spray it on a cue-tip, and touch it to the tag. A little tiny sting, but after a few treatments they turned black and fell off.

After freezing, you could snip them with a pair of manicure scissors, but I am too afraid of infection.

anon65868

I just removed mine. I had one on my inner thigh about the size of a shriveled pea. I had tied it off about two weeks ago after someone told me that it would fall off if I tied it off. The last two days it was getting swollen and sore and I was beginning to get concerned as it was rubbing against my pants whenever I moved.

After reading about 50 posts on this site I decided to go for it. I iced it down for about 10 minutes and took my sharpest pair of cuticle scissors-- they're very sharp-- I pulled the swollen, sore and discolored tag up and snipped it right at the base where I had tied it off. No pain whatsoever! Just a little blood which I iced down and then covered with a band aid with a dab antibiotic ointment.

anon65842

From what my mother tells me you are absolutely never ever in any circumstance to remove them from your body. You will get infected and it will cause harm to you. She recommends you see a doctor.

anon65460

I was reading through this site, quite impressed with all of you, because I too have a skin tag I will be removing myself.

The method I decided to use is: using some medical tape I'm going to cordon off the skin tag from the rest of my skin, then use the canned air method to freeze it, and remove it simply with some clippers. This should work well and protect the surrounding skin from the frost!

I hope it works! Its amazing how medical care is getting so ridiculous we have to become our own doctors in this day and age!

anon64725

I feel like a million bucks now. I had a huge skin tag that I've been cringing over for a year now. It was on the back of my thigh, and was probably the size of my finger tip.

Tied it off with floss, and used a clean utility knife blade to cut. Came off effortlessly with little pain, and not much bleeding either. Totally awesome. I'm going to hit the bar and find some ladies this weekend!

anon64390

I've been dealing with a skin tag all my life (or as long as i could remember).

i happened to have gotten so frustrated for the past week and every one keeps staring at it, and just walking away. It's under my left eye.

i happened to find this site and then got anxious to remove mine.

so i did with a pair of clean cosmetic scissors, ice cube, string, and band aid.

it works, and also takes me 30 mins because I'm a wimp. but thanks to this site it is now gone!

i have a band aid now cause it bleeds a lot, but I'm so grateful to have read all your comments. thank you.

anon64270

One tag, Small, Armpit

Rolling boil, prevent disease

cheers wisegeek, a breeze.

Yes, yes it is, Skin Tag Haiku.

Tied it off and cut it with sterilized nail clippers.

I was surprised by the fact that there was not even a pinch and very little blood. I did have to squeeze the clippers harder than I expected.

anon64179

OK, today I did it. I had three tags on my upper inner thighs, and invariably, when I would go on exercise walks, they would run against my pants and become irritated and hypersensitive.

I decided today, enough of that! I had two on the right upper inner thigh about five inches below my crotch, and one on the left leg in about the same area.

I got a bowl of four ice cubes, some sharp nail scissors, washed my hands and areas to be addressed, sterilized the scissors with alcohol, and went to work.

I held an ice cube on each one for two minutes, dabbed it dry with a clean tissue, then pulled the tag taught with one hand and cut the little devils off with my scissors. Not much pain, it was kind of like someone pinched me.

Mine bled a little longer than the others here have described, but I am taking aspirin daily, so that probably explains that. I put band-aids on each of them and, voila! Done.

I enjoyed watching those little devils get washed down the drain in my sink. =)

anon63944

Hello i was living with a skin tag for my whole life. I am now 30 years old and it has been getting very irritated since it has grown to a larger size, at least the top of it has, anyhow. After researching online and calling a dermatologist and seeing how much it will cost with no insurance to have it removed, i began to seek another way to end the life of my skin tag. I read a lot of useful information on this site so i thought i would share what i did and how it worked for me.

I tied the skin tag off with a piece of plain dental floss (not flavored or anything). i tied it extremely tight (you should feel a pinch). After doing this for two days i got frustrated and not to mention it got more sore and was uncomfortable to deal with so i decided one morning to just cut the damn thing off.

I'm free! It worked and barely hurt. It did bleed, but just do it and make sure you disinfect your implements that you use. I used quads which is a hospital grade disinfectant that kills everything. Alcohol is not a disinfectant. You;re better off using bleach and water if you're going to use alcohol.

Anyhow, it works, barely hurts and after a few days I'm sure it will be healed.

i hope this helps someone out there. i wish i had dealt with it sooner.

anon63725

Before I read all of these comments to the end, I cut mine off! It's gone!

It was on my lower eyelid. I tied it with dental floss, and cut it a little at a time, just to make sure it would work. It did! I used a 5x magnifying mirror and lots of sunlight and it was easy!

There was a little sting now as I went a wee bit too close and cut a bit of skin to get it all and a wee tiny bit of blood. It's gone!

anon63505

I just bought Derma Remedies Skin tags. I have many of them under both armpits .I wonder if I can wash the treated area and when (before or after applying the product). If anyone has used the products can they please advise. Thanks

anon63477

wow, so i wrote to this site a couple weeks ago, about the skin tag on my nipple (i'm comment 434) and i was so scared to remove my skin tag. Guess what? i removed it yesterday!

It took me awhile because i was so afraid, but i made a promise to myself that i was not leaving the bathroom until i cut that darn thing off! About an hour later, i finally did it! It didn't hurt much at all and didn't bleed a lot either!

I can finally live a normal life without having to be embarrassed about it! You could also say that my boyfriend enjoys it too ;)!

Does anyone know of a home remedy to remove blackness between the legs? Between my legs have gotten black since I gained weight. I need to get rid of it, please!

anon63274

To #428: when you cut above the floss what happened to the skin below it after the tag is off? I have a really irritated one in almost the exact same area, but more on my inner thigh and anything i wear rubs it so it's go to go soon!

anon63081

This site is awesome! Read the suggestions from everyone, then performed surgery. lol.

Tied a piece of thread around skin tag on my lower back, iced site for a few minutes, rubbed alcohol on skin tag and scissors, pulled skin tag out straight, then cut quickly with scissors. No pain! It was more painful tying thread around tag. Just a drop of blood. I put antibiotic cream on site with band aid. The anticipation of cutting skin tag off is worse than the actual act of doing it. You can do it, go ahead!

anon62999

I've got about 50 to 60 of the little buggers under my right armpit and more coming. My wife cut one off with a paring knife. More to go but from the way they're coming it looks like I'm going to be doing this for years.

To the guy who's got one on his testicle - are you sure that isn't a venereal wart? He said it was a memento from my wilder youth.

anon62607

Have tried almost all the home remedies but what I found best was using Dr. Scholls Skin tag Remover. But instead of waiting for it to fall off, I would take a pair of manicure scissors and snip them off while they are still partially frozen.

There was very little pain if any at all and it only bled for awhile. Definitely recommend doing it that way.

Guess I could have saved a few bucks and just used ice but I'll keep doing what works for me.

anon62511

I've got one on my balls, how do I take that one off, I'm a little concerned about the remove process. It's just on the right testicle. I'm being serious, it's from running and sweat from my leg. :(

anon62273

I'm so glad I found this website. It gave me the courage to remove my skin tag on my own, and I feel so liberated now! I tied it off with dental floss, iced it, sterilized everything and after about 10 minutes I worked up the courage to snip it off. It didn't hurt at all and barely bled! I'm so happy it's gone.

anon61882

I am so happy I got the opportunity to read this about removal of skin tags. I removed eight skin tags from my neck and 1 under my breast. I just sterilized the nail scissors with hydrogen peroxide and the area where the skin tags were and I snipped them off! No pain at all.

Now I'm not going to be embarrassed by them! One of the bigger skin tags bleed but I just put ointment on it and a bandage. Thanks for this advice!

anon61571

These comments have all been making me feel a lot better about removing my skin tag.

I have a skin tag near/sort of on my nipple and it is about the size of a pea. I have attempted to cut it off once but totally chickened out. I am so afraid of the pain.

I'm also very afraid of tying it off and watching the skin die off. It makes me feel so uneasy. I definitely feel that it is too embarrassing to tell my parents about the skin tag on my nipple. But i don't want it there anymore, especially since I'm now in one of the most serious relationships I've ever been in. I'm going to try to remove it again soon. cross your fingers!

anon61563

I did it! I've always wondered why, why, why, until i found this site and I'm so happy. There was a little bit of blood but it stopped. I kept spitting on the sink, so disgusting. i have one in my armpit but its reddish. i don't know why that is, but i'll try removing that one later.

I'm scared since it doesn't look like the one i removed from my neck. help, please!

anon61266

I didn't read every comment but you guys are crazy, or it's just me! I was born with a skin tag on each nipple, right in the middle. After 18 years of having them and getting them pulled on and played with every time I took my shirt off, I finally got the guts to do it!

I've been debating on doing it for years but just couldn't. So I woke up, grabbed the nail clippers and after about three minutes I got the courage and did it!

I don't know if it was just the location of them or if they weren't really skin tags but it stung a lot! Plus my nail clippers weren't sharp enough so I had to do a bit of pulling/twisting to get them completely removed.

Finally it's over, I popped in the shower and the hot water helped the stinging, there was no blood though. The shower was probably a bad idea cause as soon as I got out my nipples got cold and began to harden and it stung more than when I cut them off! I'm so happy they're gone now. they're still stinging but it's worth it!

anon61204

This site is awesome. I finally did it! If I didn't mentioned it my tag was the size of a grape and was on the back of my leg. After the string method didn’t work I waited for a week before trying again. Then I tried the clippers but that didn’t work. I closed it all the way but no luck. The clippers were brand new so I'm not sure why it didn't cut it off.

After that failed I lost my nerve and stopped again. I kept talking about doing it but couldn't do it. What finally motivated me was my mom saying that when she got off work if I hadn't done it she'd do it for me. My mom was at the birth of my first child. She made me really nervous during delivery and I couldn't imagine her freaking out while cutting off my tag, since my mindset was already fragile.

Anyway, I got a razor blade this morning (I considered cuticle scissors but changed my mind), put some ice in a bag, sanitized my tag and the razor blade, iced my tag for 30 minutes, pulled it up, put the blade at the base, took a deep breath then pushed the razor against it till the blade touched my finger on the opposite side of the tag. There was a sharp pinch, a lot of blood, and it cut my finger a little but it didn’t hurt too much.

Unfortunately, I must have angled the blade up because after I looked in the mirror, I saw there was still a piece there. I iced some more and cut again. It pinched but not a lot of pain. Lots of blood though. I thought I got it all but it still didn't look like it; the location made it hard to see even with a mirror.

I cut one more time then asked my son to tell me whether I had it all or if some fat (?)(It was white) was just pushing through. I didn't want to involve him but I was getting concerned. He really didn't want to look (I don't blame him, he's 14) but he looked.

He said it looked like I got it all and it was just fat. I’m not sure if that was normal. The bleeding stopped after 15 minutes. I cleaned the area, and put on a lot of Neosporin and a bandage. I was worried it would start hurting later, but it didn't. Thank God it’s over and that nasty thing is gone!

I hope my experience helps someone.

anon60638

i just clipped mine off too! mine was in the armpit - tying the thread around it was really difficult, and i ended up clipping off below the thread (because i didn't get the base). it hurt at first but only briefly. When it hurt in the clippers i held it there, waited about 10 seconds, and then pressed harder on the clippers. i was actually holding the tag in my clippers thinking i had further to go and it was already done! I'm so excited to have this gone. It's been grossing me out for about a year now! thanks! minor bleeding that i cleaned up with isopropyl wipes. now I've got an antibacterial bandage on it and I'm good to go!

anon60451

:D I took mine out! I had one on my armpit since i was little and I was so embarrassed by it. i got the courage! and it hurt for half a sec and then nothing. :D i'm so happy!

anon60413

I have one on my panty line in the cleft between my outer vulva and my inner thigh. It's been growing slowly for several years now and I am tired of it! I've tied it off and the tiny pea-sized thing is pretty black now. Let's see if I can man up and clip it off.

anon60379

I removed my facial skin tag with the advice from your site. I used dental floss and nail scissors. It worked perfectly!

I feel like a new person.

Thank you so much.

anon60242

OK, I tried the string method. I guess I didn't tie it tight enough because nothing happened. I'm going to try the clipping method, but even after reading all the posts I just can't see how it’s going to be painless.

Once I get up the nerve, if I get up the nerve to do it, I'll write back.

anon60217

I had a skin tag about half the size of a pea on my neckline just where the collar on T-shirts lay. It was forever being rubbed and it made it swollen and really sore. I had it for about three years or so and just lately started looking on the internet for ways to remove it.

I tried tea tree oil for the past week but to no avail, and then i found this site with all your posts on it so i just decided ten minutes ago to bite the bullet and go for it.

I am like many others -- seriously afraid of pain -- but i held an ice cube on it for a few minutes (was planning to hold it on for 10 mins, but it was melting down my neck) and got a pair of scissors and just nipped them on the stalk of the tag.

I closed my eyes and gritted my teeth then snipped. I was expecting loads of pain but there was hardly anything. I opened my eyes and it was lying in the sink, there was no pain after whatsoever. It bled for about two minutes and now the area on my neck looks a little red but no tag. My only regret is that i have lived with it for a few years when i didn't need to. I only did this 10 minutes ago but already i feel on top of the world.

Honestly just snip it off and start living again.

I just have. Thanks to this site and all the comments.

anon60099

I've read all the posts. My tag is on the back of my left thigh. I hate it! After reading all the posts, I may try clipping but I don't have clippers or neosporin right now.

I'm going to try the string method and if it doesn't turn "hard and black" in two days I'm going to try the clip method. I'm kind of scared of clipping so I hope it falls off. I'll let you know how it goes.

anon59753

o.k. here's my story. i had about 13 little skin tags on my neck. they didn't hurt me but i didn't like people seeing them or touching them and making fun of and also saying they would clip them for me.

so the other night i manned up and me and my dad removed all 13 off of my neck. now i hate pain and almost didn't want to do this but there is almost zero pain, you can numb it with ice or just snip it, both had the same feeling. all you need is a pair of tweezers and a pair of cuticle scissors. Just pull away with tweezers and snip with scissor, then put antibiotic ointment on them to avoid infection. also use hand sanitizer as well. there was barely any marks left or blood.

so if skin tags bother you like they did from me, real bad, just take a few minutes and you're good as new, i promise. :)

anon59723

I had one the size of a small grape. Just took a razor knife sliced it right off :) felt real good and cannot even see scar after three weeks. :)

anon59628

Thanks to this site, just cut it and save yourself months of "thinking" about it.

anon59615

Finally, freedom from my two-year old skin tag the size of a grape. Located in my inner thigh was very hard to see, plus rubbing daily on my pants was making it very sore.

After reading this website, i purchased a freezing system at a local drugstore. Chickened out due to being in pain for days, I decided on the quick way. Got a new razor blade, alcohol, band-aid and a few glasses of wine. Dear hubby pulled it tight and cut it without me even seeing the razor blade. Did not feel a thing, bled a little and now can walk without the pain of this thing rubbing in my pants.

Can't wait until summer to swim again without pain and embarrassment. Thanks to this website, and hubby, got the encouragement to do this without a costly doctor's visit.

anon59066

For anyone to afraid of pain as I am, I recommend just tying the tag off at the base. I had one in my navel many years ago that was roughly 1/8 inch. It was accessible enough to where I had both hands to tie the thread easily. I tied it tightly and just left it. No snipping.

Common sense told me cutting off the blood flow to it, it will naturally die and fall off from lack of blood. I was right. It worked perfectly and without one second of pain or discomfort. Hope that helps the fain of heart.

anon59065

I'm trying out some Dr Scholl's wart remover discs to test the theory as I type this. I'll post the results in a few weeks.

anon58976

I just twist mine and they come off. can be irritating though!

anon58625

I wish I would have only researched this sooner. I had like six small skin tags under my armpits for probably eight years or so. But I woke up today and the one skin tag was really sore and was aggravating me a lot.

So I was like screw this, I'm going to find out what these little skin thingamabobs were and if I could remove them without bleeding to death or dying or something.

I followed your procedure except I just skipped the dental floss etc. I snipped them right off. It hurt some and bled quite a bit. Thanks for the good info!

anon58446

A friend of mine had just paid a dermatologist to remove skin tags from her neck. I didn't want to go to the bother of booking an appointment and paying big bucks.

I really didn't think I would be able to do this as I'm a wimp at heart but it is so easy. Just like snipping off a piece of cuticle.

I didn't tie dental floss around them first; I tried but was too fumble-fingered to get it so gave up after a couple of tries. I just disinfected the skin and my cuticle scissors, iced it for 30 seconds and with one snip it was gone. You can't even see where it used to be now. I will do this without hesitation in the future! Go for it, if you are wondering!

anon58437

I was really worried at first cause I have tried before and really hurt. But if you can just toughen up and go for it. I had a couple on my neck, one on my testicles on one actually on my penis. I cleaned a pair of toe nail clippers with alcohol and just went for it. After a couple secs of discomfort it was done and looking good. The ones on my privates did bleed a little more than other but that is to be expected. Thanks for great advice.

anon57983

You guys *rock*! I had snipped one off myself off my right eyelid and then got nervous about infections. What if I wasn't doing it right and decided to research doctors to take the other eye tag off and a fairly large one off my back. Needless to say, you all have saved me over $500! I snipped the teeny one off my other eye and the big one off my back (it was in an odd spot, so I'm glad no one was watching my contortions!)

I was feeling brave, so I didn't tie them off, no numbing -- just aim and snip! The initial pain almost makes you stop, but just know that it doesn't get worse, it almost immediately goes away and you're left with that nasty stub in your clippers. :D

I LOVE THIS SITE!!!

anon57887

This site is very, very helpful. After reading the comments I got up the nerve to clip off my skin tags. I cleaned tweezers and cuticle scissors (brand new) with alcohol. Then I cleaned the area of skin.

Gently pulling the skin tag up with the tweezers, I clipped at the base of it close to my skin. It pinched and that's all! One barely bled so I put Neosporin on it with a band aid. Mine were on my neck chest below the collar bone. I feel so much better. They were embarrassing me. This is great info!

anon57852

Well I wish I had read the comments before doing this. lol I tied a string around it and then 10 sec later I made my first effort at cutting it off but chickened out. I then went in again for another try and gritted my teeth and cut it off. It hurt a little while cutting it off but there was no pain after for me. I did bleed a bit but I was able to get it stopped in a few minutes. I think freezing it may have helped.

anon57264

Finally got it off after all those years.

anon57053

I'm glad I found this site about how to remove skin tags at home.

For the last six months or so, I started to notice several small skin tags on the left side of my neck.

Just 30 minutes ago after reading these posts, I decided to remove them on my own. Using a pair of manicure scissors which I cleaned with rubbing alcohol using a cotton ball, for each skin tag I wanted to remove, I used my fingernails to pinch the tip of the skin tag, gently pulled it away from the skin to reveal a good area to cut off, then slowly used the scissors to cut it off. Worked great.

After the first removal, the rest were piece of cake. A little bleeding on some areas, but just had to use a cotton ball soaked with rubbing alcohol and applied pressure on them for about 10 minutes to stop the bleeding.

anon56987

I just did it! They are right. It's easier than you think. My skin tag was on the small of my back, right above the bikini line and about the size of a pea. I hated wearing bathing suits that showed my back. Here's my story.

The night before, i made an ice block the size of a small butter tub container. This would ice the area around the skin tag as well as the nub itself.

The next day, following the others' instructions, i prepared my toe nail clippers, a long length of dental floss and a cotton swab in alcohol. I washed my hands and swabbed my back with alcohol as well. 15 minutes allowed enough time to numb the area.

Taking the long floss in my hand, i tied a loop then secured it around the tag. I was able to use the extra length to pull the skin tag away from my back. That allowed enough room to wedge the tag between the clippers. Gently pressing down on the clippers made sure it wouldn't catch any skin on my back.

I was pretty nervous and during the first squeeze i felt some pain. This shocked me and i stopped right away. I thought i'd numbed the area -- not enough. I iced it for another 15 minutes and the same thing happened.

Then i remembered someone else mentioned the initial pinch would hurt the most. So, i positioned myself again with the clippers, this time grabbing the tool in the palm of my hand. I said out loud "1, 2, 3, snip. 1, 2, 3, snip," each time applying a little more pressure to close the clippers. This allowed me to control the comfort level - i pressed down until i felt a small pinch, stayed there until i was comfortable with that feeling then applied more pressure to the clippers.

As it turned out, after i got about half way down with the clippers, i didn't feel anything anymore and i was able to completely squeeze the clippers and all was done. No blood at all.

Thank you everyone for giving me the courage to do this (and save some cash too). I'll be ready with my bikini by next summer.

anon56578

I have two huge ones, one on my back a little bigger then a pea and one under my armpit which is bigger again.

Not sure but it has a root and then a head (my wife teases me saying its my second pen!s) but it seems a lot bigger then everyone's on here. So does anyone have any that big or am i the only one?

anon56075

I have been reading this forum for the past week or so to get input on how to remove the skin tag on the corner of my eye. It was very close to the danger zone, but still doable in my opinion.

I finally mustered up the courage to give it a try two days ago. I knew I wouldn't be able to "just nip it off." Ha. That's an understatement!

I'm not sure which method actually worked for me either, but it finally fell off today, leaving no sign that it was ever there, other than a little redness.

I first tied it off with some thread at the base and pulled it as tight as I could stand it. Yes, it hurt a little so I waited a few minutes and tightened it some more before tying the final knot. After that, I dabbed fingernail polish on it with a toothpick. I reapplied the nail polish a couple more times over the two day period and within less than 48 hours it just pulled off!

I'm excited can't you tell? Incredible! This thing has been bothering me for the last two years. Thanks to every one of you for sharing!

WiserNow

Anyone who suffers from skin tags will find them worrisome and ugly to look at. While cosmetically unpleasant, it is good to know that these developments are superficial and pose no medical risk to you. They are not cancerous, and can be removed if you wish. You can cut off these pesky appearances by yourself with the use of scissors or clippers. It is safer, however, for you to find a topical or internal treatment for your skin growths.

anon55917

Great advice on here. This site is the best. I have had a skin tag just to the left of my nipple for almost two years. Was kind of discouraged to take off my shirt in front of people.

I found this site and 20 minutes later I am rid of this thing. 5 minutes worth of icing and a quick painless snip with some clean nail clippers. Hardly any bleeding and almost no pain at all. It was about the equivalent of getting a piercing. Wish I had read all this two years ago. Thanks a ton for the help and if you have the same problem, then just go for it and you will be happy.

anon55768

Ive been dealing with this skin tag on the shaft of my penis for some time now. It was more of a confidence killer then anything else, but last night I decided to tie a string around the base. So far it looks like its working. It's turned relatively black and is starting to scab up. At this rate it should fall off in another couple days. :)

Thanks for the help, your comments have given me a new found courage and the reality that I can fix my confidence problem.

anon55354

I found this thread this morning and having put up with a large horrible looking tag in my groin for too long was encouraged to do something about it.

I thought I would tie it off and let it fall off in time, but having tied it off, impatience got the better of me and half an hour later I went up and snipped it off. Took two attempts due to being squeamish, but only stung rather than any pain. No ice, no waiting, no unsightly skin tag.

Thanks to all the positive posters. If you're in a similar position, just do it. You'll wonder what you were so worried about.

anon55278

At first I didn't believe that doing any of this wouldn't be painful. I had tried to pull and twist off the skin tag that been on my right eye for two years, but I could never finish because it hurt so much.

After putting on some ice today and cutting off the circulation with string, I very slowly and hesitantly tried to cut the tag off with nail clippers.

When I didn't feel any pain I opened the nail clippers and my eye to see that I had taken it off! There was no bleeding; my eye stings just a tiny tiny bit and there's some slight inflammation, and I mean slight, but I'm sure that in a couple hours it'll be fine.

I'm so glad I decided to tough it out and follow this website. It's an amazing feeling to just look at my eye and not see that ugly skin tag. :)

anon55077

I had two that were about the size of small peas on the inner thigh. They're gone now and here's a few things that are key to doing the snip. Very sharp scissors or clippers, numbing and disinfecting both the surgical tool and the band aid you will put on after. Numbing for me was key. Like some of you, I gathered the courage from the comments posted.

thx

OK so i have a skin tag under my lip. it's so embarrassing. i feel like everyone is staring when i talk to them and people always ask me what it is. some guy even said cool lip piercing :(.

I am very very afraid of pain and chickened out every time I put the clippers to it.

But after today with my *lip piercing* i decided to tie floss numb and cut. so i'm trying it now.

anon54196

i tried the apple cider vinegar and it worked in 3 days :) thanks everyone !!

anon53692

Wow, a lot of very good ideas which gave me the courage to try it. I was going to use this dr. scholls stuff, but was hesitant at $34.99. So I decided to cutting it off. I used dental floss to tie it around, then tried to cut it off with clippers but it wouldn't cut. So I had some small scissors and cut it off.

Very little pain no more than a pin prick. It bled for a bit and stung for half an hour. I put polysporin and a bandage on it and it's gone.

anon53666

I just removed a skin tag in the pelvic area! I was very apprehensive about doing this. I kept knocking it when i shaved and something needed to be done.

I tied dental floss around the tag, put ice on it for a few minutes, cleaned the area and nail clippers and snipped! Its gone! Little to no pain or bleeding. Thanks so much for all these posts.

anon53445

I have just tried the string method and want to make sure that things are going correctly. It has been about three days since I have tied the string. I pulled it tight enough till I felt some pressure at the base.

It is now quite swollen, I'm guessing from fluid build up, I can't pull it off like some others. It's still skin-colored, except more reddened.

Is this the normal course for the string method, and how long does it usually take?

Thank you, Waiting

anon53439

I tried the method with the dental floss and nail scissors on a very difficult to reach tag and it worked OK with some bleeding and a bit of pain. There was a small amount left due to my not being able to tie it properly in the right place so I used tea tree oil 3-4 times a day, which gradually shrunk it and after 2-3 weeks it was totally gone.

I've had it for several years and been very embarrassed by it I so wish I'd known about this sooner. thanks everyone.

anon53395

Gone now! My partner and I worked up the courage pretty much all day to remove one on each of our bodies. I had one under the armpit and he had an anal tag.

We just had a sharp knife and dental floss and that was it. After many giggling fits we went for it and were actually surprised at how easy and pain free it all was.

It's definitely worth a go, good luck :)

anon53382

I came across this website today and thought wow this could work. Very quickly I decided to do it no pain no string no ice but yes a bit more blood than I anticipated. But the result -- thank you so much!

I had this skin tag on my right side just below the shoulder and when tank tops are on it is out! lol. But now I don't have to worry about it anymore. thank you all sooo much!

anon53262

Just got the nerve up to do this. my skin tag was in the corner of my lip. i have to say, i have no pain tolerance so i numbed it with ice for about a half hour and then went to go cut and wimped out:( re-numbed and went for it. All gone! Yeah, didn't even hurt at all. just a little bleeding.

i think i will do the one near my eye tomorrow night. so happy!

anon53243

Fantastic advice. I followed the directions closely and I removed two skin tags from my neck. Granted, these were very small (smaller than a grain of rice), but they were dark and made me self conscience, especially when I would wear a necklace.

I have a large collection of necklaces and refuse to stop wearing them because it causes skin tags. From now on, I will just snip them off! I feel empowered, Yay! Thanks so much, everyone, for your wonderful comments and advice. It gave me the courage to handle these silly things myself!

anon53103

I had five of them and since i'm still pretty young, they tend to be quite embarrassing. I was very self conscious about them and didn't even want to go see a doctor.

I found this last night and finally got the nerve up to do it. I would recommend icing for about five minutes. i did three of the five and the last one didn't hurt a single bit because i iced it a lot longer. the first two i clipped my skin which hurt. but the last one i just froze it a lot longer, and placed the nail clippers around it and slowly just clipped it and didn't feel a single thing. i just looked and there it was...gone! :)

Love this website. thank you so much guys!

anon52522

i have a skin tag on my left upper hip/waist area now for three years and it is also the size of a "small pea" with a very thick root to boot!

after reading these postings i felt super charged and wanted to try something right away unfortunately, it is on my left side and i am right handed so it was very hard for me to twist my right arm that way to precisely cut the damn thing off!! lol~

i did manage to tie a dental floss around the skin tag and tie it very tightly to secure it. it tried to cut off the circulation of the tag and pull it off but the base, was just too big! then i coaxed and talked my husband into cutting it off for me! it told him if it was for him, i would do it! and he knew that i would!

interesting enough, it was the icing that hurt more, and the tying of the dental floss! that particular tag had a very wide base. but by the time the icing took affect, it turns a different color and the floss was cutting off the circulation to it so I was pretty ready to go. my husband wasn't as keen.

unfortunately, my scissors weren't very sharp so the first CUT was pretty useless. ladies and gents, please make sure you have good scissors! it discouraged my husband immediately until he saw my reaction. i reassured him that it didn't really hurt me at all. "small pinch" really. so he got another pair of sharper scissors out, sterilize them and tried again. i told him to hang onto the little tag and then cut slower. we both closed our eyes in the last snip.

that cut fared better, it was mostly cut off and i then used the first smaller pair to finish it off. He almost vomited. Lol!

there was bleeding, it's been 15 minutes but nothing really in the big picture. i wished it was more flush since there seems to be some left over skin but that was where the floss was. ah well, should've used a scalpel? lol!

my husband assures me that it will scab up and the area will be more flushed once it heals! he ordered me not to touch it. i put some "alcohol peroxide" with some gauze and cleaned up!

all in all, thanks to all the postings! Yes! it was indeed worth it! yes indeed! thank you thank you!

anon52512

My husband and I just spent quality time together on a Saturday night removing the skin pal from my lower eyelid with a toe nail clipper. The string worked swell and I no longer have my tag. I was scared as hell. However, it was painless after a bit of ice and a quick shot of rum. Cheers!

anon52408

Thank goodness I found this site. I have had a skin tag on my neck for a while now, but I have always chickened out when it comes to removing it myself because I do *not* do well with pain. When a guy at work rubbed my neck this past week and I got self-conscious I knew something had to be done.

Anyway, I didn't have any string or floss that could be tied around it, so I used an ice pack for about 10 minutes (I'm seriously scared of pain) and sterilized nail clippers in boiling water. When I finally plucked up the nerve I just took off the ice pack and snipped it right off. I'm not sure I got all of it, but it is definitely less noticeable. It bled quite a bit, but it did not hurt at all.

I would definitely recommend this!

anon52171

I have a cluster of 5 skin tags in the lash line near the inner corner of my lower eyelid. They are too close together to tie off and I am afraid of putting chemicals that close to my eyeball. They have grown large enough that people stare at my eye and I've actually started looking away from people when I talk to them so they are less noticeable. I really hate these things! I'd love to get rid of them myself and not pay a Dr. to remove them. Any advice?

anon52118

I am terrified to remove my skin tags in any way. I have about five on my neck, and yeah the same old story of how they get caught on my necklaces applies. I'm feeling increasingly self-conscious about them, because I recently got my hair cut shorter and they're more noticeable. I was considering making an appointment with my GP, but I think he might think I'm silly and there are bigger problems people have to deal with. This "home removal kit" gives me the heebie-jeebies. Are there any side effects at all? Is it possible for them to resurface after removal, or even come back worse than first time around? Help!

anon52111

Just clipped off one on my inner thigh. It was troubling me today since I'd been wearing leggings and it had gotten very inflamed and painful from the friction. So, I tied it up with thread, spent about 20 minutes shaking and worrying, then decided to go ahead and nip it off,

I iced for 5 minutes before my first try (with hair-cutting scissors). It pinched a bit, then I realized that I had some thigh skin in the scissors, hence the pain, and lost my nerve for a while, then went back to icing.

Second time was the charm! Took a deep breath, and blew it out as I snipped quickly. No pain at all (though after all that icing, I wasn't surprised too much). Left a nice little mark that's bleeding a little, and I'm applying pressure with a paper towel, after which will come antibacterial and a band aid. Man, I feel brave. Thanks to everyone who posted here - you really helped me get the nerve up!

anon51834

I had 4 on my thigh/vagina area. Originally my doctor told me they were warts, but after researching pictures of warts i realized mine did not look like that at all. Mine looked like small hangnails. I used two wart removal methods (prescribed by the doc) and they didn't go away. It wasn't until i got one on my neck that i realized it was just a skin tag. I took some thread and wrapped it around one and pulled and it "popped" off. The next one was long and after attempting to just "pop" it off, the thread broke, so I cut it off with scissors. The longer ones didn't bleed, but the smaller ones did.

I'm so happy they're gone! Did not hurt at all either!

anon51775

Skin tags can easily, painlessly removed with cryotherapy. MHT

anon51427

i just read these comments and had the guts to do it! and it was even on my nipple! didn't hurt that bad -- actually hardly at all. bleeding a bit though.

anon51312

I've had a very small, but noticeable skin tag on my neck for over a year. I recently talked to a plastic surgeon about removing it, but my insurance wouldn't cover it. About an hour ago I came across this website and though I would try to remove my skin tag myself someday.

I got motivated and tied dental floss tightly around it. After ten minutes I got off the couch and decided to operate. I sterilized nail scissors and started to cut it, but stopped as soon as I felt pain. So I sat back on the couch and numbed the area for about 20 minutes with ice. This time I used nail clippers and clipped it right off.

The skin tag was so numb that I even took a few snips with the scissors and took the rest of the stump off that I had missed with the clippers. There was a dot of blood, like from a needle prick. Now I'm back on the couch with a band aid and neosporin on the place where the tag was. It feels a little bit sore, but its worth it! Thanks to everyone for posting your success stories!

anon51290

I had one in my left armpit, large, size of a pea. No ice, no string, just positioned the toenail clippers at the base, took a big breath and squeezed as quick and hard as I could. It really didn't hurt bad - its in your mind! Far less than a nasty pimple.

There's some blood and it's a tad sore but it's so worth it to be rid of it once and for all! So I think you should go ahead and just do it-- it's not that bad, seriously. You'll feel so good about yourself afterward.

anon50843

I successfully removed a large skin tag last week, but it was not easy! he tag was on my inner thigh, right up next to the panty line. It was about the size of a large raisin, and it had a fairly thick stalk, probably the result of years of rubbing when I walked. After reading a few stories on this page of difficulties with similar tags, I was apprehensive, but decided to go ahead. (My dermatologist had said that she could remove it, but the embarrassment factor for that location was too high for me!)

I did all the prep described in earlier posts: cleaning instruments, hands, and skin with hot soapy water and then alcohol; tightly tying off the tag; and icing. I put my large clippers around the base of the tag and squeezed hard. It was quite painful. And when I removed the clippers, the tag was cut only part way through and was starting to bleed. Luckily I had also cleaned a pair of small, sharp sewing scissors, so I used those to finish the job. The base of the tag was surprisingly tough to cut through, as well as painful, so it took a lot of resolve to keep going. Not for the faint of heart! When it was finally off, I put a sterile gauze pad over it and applied direct pressure for about 10 minutes to stop the substantial bleeding. Then I applied some Neosporin and a band aid.

The removal left a raw area about 3/8 inch in diameter (yes, it was a thick stalk), which obviously was going to take some time to heal. I wanted to avoid infection, so for the first several days I rinsed the area gently in the shower, patted the area dry with some sterile gauze, and applied more Neosporin and a fresh band aid. It took about a week to fully heal, and the adhesive from the bandage was quite irritating to the sensitive skin in that area. I would definitely recommend *not* removing a similar large tag in that area right before a vacation, as there was about a week of no swimming, no hot tubs, no hiking, etc.. Fortunately I had timed the removal for a week when I could wear loose-fitting pants and take it easy, and it looks fine now! Thank you to everyone for all the tips!

anon50630

I've done my first one. Yay! Have about a dozen under my left armpit, three under my right and three or four around my neck and one in my groin. So, having read all the above and got encouraged, I felt I got enough nerve to try out on just one (the largest- about size of a pea) under my armpit. Initially had a bit of trouble trying to get the loop of the floss over it by myself so skipped that. Left ice block on for about two minutes, grabbed the dogs nail clippers and with shaking hands give it a squeeze. I should have given it a snip as I really only got half of it cut, but there was no pain and only a slight bit of blood. So while still brave, applied ice again for few minutes, then gripping with forefingers was easy to pull away from skin, expose the stalk and with sterile scissors, snip! And off it came! I didn't believe it. Like many have said, you get a great feeling of accomplishment afterward. Very little blood and virtually zero (if any) pain. So my plan is to do three a night and in a week I should be free of these unsightly little things.

anon50619

I have several between my legs which have annoyed and embarrassed me for years. This week when I took the kids to a water park, my trunks rubbed them raw and on one ride they noticed the blood running down my legs. That was it -- I have decided they have to go. These comments have given me confidence to cut them off - I will report back later on how I get on.

anon50201

Yay! I just removed several skin tags from my chest! I'm pregnant and one skin tag cropped up during my last pregnancy and more during this recent pregnancy! I read that excess hormones can cause them to surface. Anyway, I had some pesky ones right in my cleavage -- yuck! They weren't huge or anything but one was darker than the rest and much more bulbous. There were times that I would get an itch on my chest and I kept thinking that I had a crumb on my chest! Anyway, I sterilized a little pair of sewing scissors and got the nerve to snip -- without ice. The first one was the hardest, but after seeing that it didn't hurt that badly, I took out the rest of them! I cleaned the area and then applied liquid bandage (which helps to combat infection as well). I keep feeling my chest now -- no more "crumbs"! Yay! So liberating!

anon50101

Today I removed my skin tag. The skin tag was in my personal part. It was a big and scary skin tag. I tried to use the ice, but the ice hurt more than the removal.

I just use a nail clipper, sterilized it with the hand sanitizer that removes 99.9 percent of germs, and then poured boiling water on the nail clipper.

Then I cut it. It only stung for less than a second, and later on I was playing with the skin tag. Very gross, and I took some photos for memories.

anon50090

O.k., I just removed two rather large skin tags. I used a wart remover to freeze and then clip them with nail clippers, zero pain. I am so glad these things are gone.

anon50064

I did it! I cannot believe it. I tied it off, numbed it with an ice cube and snipped it off.No pain, no problem, and I have absolutely no pain tolerance. Wow! :-) I am so proud of myself!

anon49982

i feel so empowered. i just snipped off two skin tags from my neck. i do not have a high pain tolerance and i felt very nervous so i visited this site for encouragement and worked up my strength and just did it. i am so glad they are gone and won't feel self-conscious now when my boyfriend is touching my neck. :) For those who think they can't, believe in yourself! it is so worth it!

anon49897

hey anon1315: 30 minutes ago i had a skin tag on my eyelid. I tied it tight with floss, froze it with an ice cube and snipped fast with clippers. There was a quick sting, but no pain, a drop of blood and now it's all gone. i think if it's not near the lid margin, you'll have same experience as I did.

anon49881

Thanks guys. Just got back from the bathroom --piece of cake. Or rather piece of ice and a nail clipper!

anon49574

I had a skin tag on the lip of my vagina. I was on a routine check up and asked the doctor about it and she verified that it was a skin tag. I sterilized my equipment: tweezers and scissors, and then I quickly cut it off with minimal pain and it bled briefly and that was it. I saved myself at least $500.

anon49465

Anyone thinking of doing this - *do* it.

Seriously. I am the scardiest girl out there, lol - I was reading these comments for about 10 minutes until I decided to just go ahead and do it. I got some dental floss, tied it around my skin tag (on inner thigh). Even though I couldn't quite get hold of it all, I managed to get the top half, then put some ice over it for a few minutes, then got the nail cutters. I *know* it sounds gross, but take it easy, snip and then it's done! =)

Going to see in the morning if it is completely gone. If not I could always do this technique again and not be scared! Go ahead, do it!

anon49030

i just got rid of five that were on my neck by just cutting them. i've had them for about four years. after reading these comments, i gathered all my courage and got rid of them. the first one (the biggest one) was slightly painful but the rest were hardly painful. if you have doubts, just do it!

anon48901

I love you guys. Thank you so much. I have had a large skin tag right underneath my right breast which has been annoying me for at least 10 years. It had a thin stalk and a brown bulbous tip to it, never got any bigger or anything. I remember once my friend and I were at the beach and he tried picking it off me, saying "There is a goober on you". I was horrified, to say the least. Anyway, it has been bothering me forever, and I finally decided I wanted to do something about it, came upon this site and got some guts thanks to all of your awesome guts, tied some floss around it, cleaned the area and some sharp little scissors with alcohol, froze it for like five minutes, and tried to cut. I was so scared and shaking and there was blood and I only got 1/4th the way through because of the very slight pinching feeling, which scared me, but it was already 1/4th the way off so I told myself dude. you have piercings and a tattoo! Stop being a baby, and I just snipped the rest of it away, and it hurt way less than I ever imagined. the problem is just working up the courage to inflict pain on myself. Also removing a little piece of me that I have dealt with forever. I now have ghost tag syndrome. It bled for maybe a minute or so, then there was nothing. No stump (I cut it right across the base) and put some polysporin on it, and it's all good! I can't stop lifting up my shirt! I facebooked my mom and my sister about it because I was so excited. My mom was mad that I didn't get a doctor to do it but honestly, for something this minor, I don't think it's really necessary. This was long winded but honestly if you have a tag that is bothering you, just man up and snippity snip. You will feel *so* empowered and awesome! I am the biggest squeamish baby alive. When I called my boyfriend to tell him he pretty much almost puked. Lol.

anon48025

well I read all your helpful comments and I tied one off. I think I'm going to see what happens to it. The other one I grabbed and pulled it off between my nails. It didn't even hurt at all, minimal bleeding.

anon47529

Those of you describing "anal skin tags" and skin tags on your penis and vaginal skin tags might have genital warts which are contagious and spread to partners and ought not be treated in this way.

anon47420

This is awesome. thanks. I just removed mine on my left side of stomach. Few drops of blood -- that's it. I have had this for 18 years and i'm glad it's gone. It did not hurt at all. I iced it for one minute, and snip --gone.

anon47392

This site had great advice on how to remove skin tags. I have had two fairly large skin tags in the groin area, on the crease of my leg. I have had them for over a year and they have really bothered me more because of the appearance than anything! I tied them both tightly with floss and numbed the area with an ice cube for about a minute, then I took the nail clippers and squeezed as hard as I could. They fell off instantly and there was absolutely no pain. I didn't even feel a pinch. One bled more than the other, but neither really bled that long and within 5 minutes they were fine to put neosporin with a bandage on.

firefly4536

I hope that most of you realize that there is a big difference between a "skin tag and a mole." Moles can be cancerous and should not be removed except by a doctor. If you are not sure what it is, you should have a doctor look at it. (or them)

anon47117

mine was in a hard to get to area with floss and still be able to tie a knot (my armpit). You can imagine the challenge that posed without help so i decided to just grab the clippers and snip. no ice or string. it's really not bad and thank you for the info. i wasn't even sure you could self remove so you were again very helpful.

anon46809

I actually read a few posts where people had skin tags on the lid and removed it just fine. I would definitely do it if I had one in that area. Mine was on my lower lash line and I was fine after removing it. Tie it off with dental floss first (simply make a loop and place it around the skin tag), then tighten the tie s tight as possible (it may pinch a bit, however, it will subside). Ice it for about 15 minutes (some say a few seconds, but I was petrified and wanted to make extra sure it was numb). After it is numb, place cat claw clippers around it and clip (cat claw clippers are excellent for this because of the shape). i know it sounds gross, but you will only feel a slight pinch. After I clipped mine there was some bleeding. i applied pressure to it with a cotton pad that had hydrogen peroxide on it, followed with alcohol (this stung a bit) and last of all I applied neosporin. Make sure all of your tools are completely sterilized. Go for it, you will be a changed person. I lived with mine for twenty years and can't stop staring in the mirror! If I can do it anyone can. I have the weakest stomach ever and I hate pain. I thought about having a few drinks prior to doing it, however, after reading all of the posts here, my confidence rose and I just went for it! I wish I had done it much sooner!

anon46666

i really would like to do the dental floss but my skin tag is on my left eyelid. do you think i can still do it? please give me advice asap? it's so embarrassing. i got it about 6 months ago. i pull at it all the time and its getting very big.

anon46639

Oh my gosh! Thank you all for your advice! I had a skin tag on my lower lash line for years and went online to research a dermatologist to remove it. Instead, I happened upon this site and mustered up the courage to remove it myself. I tied it with dental floss, numbed it with ice and used cat claw clippers and snipped it off. I immediately followed with hydrogen peroxide, alcohol and neosporin. It was painless, however, there was some bleeding and it is a bit sore. I am ecstatic! Now when I give eye contact I won't be wondering if the person is staring at an unsightly skin tag! Yay! Many thanks!

anon46364

My fiance just helped me cut one out from under my arm. That thing had been bothering me for years and while it didn't come off 100 percent with this method it did get off the bulk of it (it was fairly large) and i am left with an almost smooth under arm! It hurts now and the icing hurt too but its so worth it.

anon46362

Wow. I've had one right on the base of my "you know what!" Yeah, not a cool place for a skin tag. try explaining that to every girl you get with. It's been getting bigger and a lot more noticeable so I had to do something, and I didn't want to whip it out for a doc so I tied it off with dental floss. Sfter a few days it turned black and got sore, that means it was working, but I lost patience and finally froze it with ice and cut it at the base with kitchen scissors. I felt a wee pinch but not too bad. It's been bleeding horribly for a half hour now, lol but what a relief its gone. I researched a lot on this before doing it, and this will save everyone the time. tying it off with dental floss is the safest/least painful at home way to do it.

anon46158

Im pretty sure I have a skin tag underneath my left eye and I am very nervous to try to remove it by cutting it. Has anyone tried the liquid wart remover? I know I'm a wimp!

anon45947

Wow. Okay, so let me give you my experience. I have two skin tags in my groin area, and they gave me issues when I walked with skin rubbing against them. I went to the doctor and chickened out when he pulled out the scissors. I read a lot of posts and got courage, tied off both of them, grabbed a hold of one and cut. Holy crap! I did something wrong because it hurt and I only got half of the bugger and it bled for an hour. So then I decided for the other I would use the "tie off" method. Hurt a bit to tie off tight and had a dull pain down there from walking for two days before I decided to just cut this one off. I placed ice on the area for about three minutes, grabbed a hold of the string, put the scissors at the base and Pow! Gone -- no pain or anything, and the bleeding stopped in five minutes. The secret here folks is the ice. I got this one all the way down to the skin, no trace of it anywhere. So I am going to do the first one again tomorrow, this time tie the string, numb it up big time again, and snip. Use alcohol, peroxide, ice, and sharp scissors. Good luck.

anon45908

i had one on my neck that has been bothering me for quite a while. This site, coupled with a monday from hell made it pretty easy to take my frustration out on it and grab and pull. To my surprise, it came off easily with no pain -- just a bit of bleeding.

anon45641

Thanks to this website I just got up the courage to remove my skin tags as well. I have had these things for years even for my wedding. One was really big and starting to hurt. I tried to get them cut off previously, but I chickened out. So today was the day and it really was not that bad, only a sting and a little bleeding.

anon45323

Thanks for the information! I immediately went into self surgery, seeing as the doctor was in, and quickly and cleanly removed one from each armpit and two which had recently popped out around the neckline. It was super easy and painless with a pair of tweezers, alcohol (isopropyl not Jack Daniels), and peroxide. Feels great! Thanks to all the great posters!

anon45289

I just got the guts up to do it! I just cut the tag off with no ice about five minutes ago. It didn't even bleed. My reccomendation is to firmly squeeze the nail clippers! as i only half squeezed and had to do it again properly. :( I had bacterial gel at the ready after as i don't want this thing to get infected! Oh and no it doesn't hurt at all! Just do it! I have had my tag for about three years and it was causing so much embarrassment! and now its gone!

anon44048

Have liquid bandage handy - very helpful.

anon43717

Tip: If you're impatient with the 10-20 minutes of bleeding after snipping a tag, try using a styptic pencil (traditionally used for men's shaving cuts). It *does* sting when applying it, but it stops the bleeding instantly. For those unfamiliar with it, you get the end of the stick wet with water (under the faucet), then rub it on the cut. Again it does sting (about the same as putting rubbing alcohol on a cut)- but it is ideal if you want to stop the bleeding fast.

I have anal skin tags. I had them removed by a doctor, or I thought i had, so the doctor just gave me two extra skin tags and never removed the other one. Has anyone try to remove anal skin tags? Please let me know how to do it. they bother me and are a house of terror in terms of having sex with my fiance. any advice?

anon42982

Wow! That worked so great. I always had a stubborn skin tag on the side of my neck that wouldn't go away. I got the doctor to remove it three times and it kept growing back. I tied dental floss around my tag (a tad smaller than a pea), and put a popsicle on it for 15 minutes (because i'm a wimp). To my surprice cutting it off wasn't a problem at all, and i only felt a pinch. I know what you're thinking, oh it's going to hurt, but don't even think about it. Just do it. i finally worked up the guts, and now my tag is gone forever with little to no pain!

anon42963

i just took the tag off my boyfriend's back. If you are using scissors make sure they are sharp! Clean the area and the scissors. We numbed the area and tied dental floss around it pretty tightly. We had a band-aid and peroxide ready and just cut it off. He didn't feel a thing and now he is so happy :)

He was very scared and it's okay to be, just relax and do it, you will be relieved in the end. It is worth it! Good luck!

anon42783

Today my dad was talking about his skin tag under his arm, and I have about six under my armpit, including a bigger one. I decided to look up home remedies or ways to remove them. I trusted within two methods: freeze wart remover and cutting them off. While my dad was being a big baby, I froze his. He left, and while he was gone, I mustered up the courage to cut mine off. I sterilized finger nail clippers, and rubbed my armpit with alcohol. Then, I chickened out, staring into my armpit, and getting dizzy. I then decided to try it out on a tiny one that was at a good angle for the clippers. I did not tie it, or ice it at all. And I just clipped it right off! It was a tiny little pinch, but nothing to get scared about.I then proceeded to do the rest of the tiny ones, and then did the big one by tying, pulling, then clipping it. However, since I did not tie them off, or ice them, they bled a LOT. But I just rubbed alcohol on them, and put a large bandage after applying pressure with a paper towel for about 15 minutes. It was easy, and I'm so happy that I did it.

I am very squeamish and the idea of doing this freaked me out to my core, but I'm so happy they are gone! They were embarrassing, especially when wearing a tank top.

I would also like to say that thinking about it was scarier than actually doing it.

Also, don't drink alcohol like someone else posted. Alcohol makes the blood thinner, therefore making you bleed more than usual.

Thank you all so much for posting these comments, as they helped me "grow balls" and just do it. I'm *so* happy!

anon42623

Wow! I just did it! My skin tag was so embarrassing it was right in the middle of my neck, I would always pick on it and my husband would be like "stop". But today when he was at work I came across this website. I put sting around it, numbed it with ice for like one minute and clipped it w/nail clippers! it didn't hurt but it bled a little. Wow -- no more skin tag!

anon42526

Apple cider vinegar worked for me. I removed a skin tag from my neck that has been there at least 15 years and now all that is left is a light red mark. It looks better or as good as it would have if a doctor had removed it. Just use a cotton swab and press vinegar to the skin tag - don't tape it or anything and try not to touch the skin around it because the vinegar will burn it too and can leave scarring. Mine turned white, then black, then shrank and scabbed over. It took about two weeks to heal.

anon42483

I usually use wart remover; but, when I got a tag on my eyelid, I was -of course- scared to do anything to that one myself. I was searching online for something safe and painless and am *so glad* to have found the castor oil/baking soda option here! Thank you!

anon42406

I've cut off tags with nail trimmers -- painful and bloody. I've had doctors remove them. The problem with the doctors is that some are more skilled at cutting than others. I had seven removed this week and I am not pleased with the results- there are small "stumps" left. Perhaps they will heal fine.

I do have many more to remove (I have counted at least 30, mostly in my armpits) I plan on tying with dental floss and waiting. I will post results!

D

anon42212

It worked! Thank you for the advice. I was afraid to try it but after seeing that other people had positive results I got up the courage and gave it a try. I had that skin tag under my arm for 20 years! I tied a knot around it with dental floss pulled it really tight (which didn't hurt at all) iced it for about 15 seconds and cut it off with nail clippers. Only the tiniest drop of blood came out and absolutely no pain.

anon41993

how long after i cut the skin tag should i leave the string around the stalk?

anon41902

okay, i was seriously freaking out thinking of trying this. i had a little skin tag on my nipple. i was so scared, and thought it was going to hurt like hell. i tied it with string, iced it for about thirty seconds until i couldn't feel the sting from the ice anymore, and used nail clippers. i didn't feel a thing! seriously! it's bleeding a little bit, but no pain. thanks to everyone's advice on here. i never would have done this without you guys!

anon41755

I've already been doing stuff like this for years, my father started having them so I looked it up. It's good to know that I'm not alone in having these and removing them in this way. Thanks

anon41242

I'm *way* too scared to do this. I'm afraid that it'll hurt. And, seriously, I *hate* pain with a passion. Any help?

anon41115

I read some of these articles and i just had to try. I had an annoying little pest on my back in a very hard to reach spot. but i managed to tie a piece of thread around it and iced it really good. then i just rolled up both ends of the strings together and pulled outward enough to stretch it out, then i cut it off with a pocket knife. it bled a lot but it didn't hurt at all. thanks guys, you have no idea how much of a confidence booster this was for me. :)

anon41048

Add me to the list! I tied a piece of dental floss to the base of the tag, as directed, and then iced it real well. Took several minutes but when I finally mustered the courage, I cut it off with some small sharp scissors (purchased nail cutting scissors to do this). To my surprise and great joy, it came off easily with no pain, the slightest amount of blood as if I got pricked with a needle. Today is about two months later and my skin is clear and tag free! I wish I had done this much much sooner. Thanks everyone for the advice.

anon41016

i heard to use tea tree oil four times a day for two weeks and that never seemed to work. But thanks for your suggestion. i'll probably do that.

anon40950

It totally worked for me too. Thanks for the reassurance. I tied a half hitch knot around the skin tag at the base. I did it pretty tight. After one day I loosely pulled it and it came off; no blood, no pain. Sweet.

anon40327

Got frustrated with a skin tag that kept snagging on my shirt collar. I finally just grabbed it between my fingernails and yanked. Very little blood and it didn't hurt more than when it got snagged on my shirt collar.

anon40304

hi! i just did this and this is what i did. OK so last night i tied string around the base of the tag around 6 p.m. and by this morning at 8 a.m. it was already really dark purple almost black! so i decided to leave it on a little longer i *hate* pain and wanted it to just fall off, but then i went in the bathroom around 10:30 with 1 ice cube and numbed it, the numbing is what gets it! i tried to use scissors but freaked myself out, so when it was numb i just pulled the stings tighter as hard as I could -- like my hands were hurting -- i was pulling so hard and *boom* it just came right off! no pain no nothing. it was amazing! it bled a little like little bubbles but that was a few minutes after when it came off at first there was *no* blood! i really truly hope this helps someone!!

anon40300

I have two little tags right below my right eye. I have read all the comments and am still scared to just cut them off. I guess I am afraid of unbearable pain even though I know it can't be that bad.

anon40236

I just used ice on a large one on my inner thigh, running alcohol and nail clippers, I iced for 10 minutes and clipped it. No pain at all, but large amounts of blood. it probably bled for half an hour.

anon40000

Omg! I just did it and It's almost painless. Just rub it with ice and clip it. wow I had skin tags for ever and now those ugly things are gone! And the best thing, no bleeding.

Thanks to whoever came up with the idea.

anon39993

i used just the cheapest paint-on wart remover and it worked in two weeks. i just follwed the directions putting it on twice a day. when you get out of the shower just towel dry yourself where they are roughly and they come off. you don't even notice.

anon39968

I've tried the castor oil and baking soda for six weeks. Tags are still there. Skin around the tags is very irritated. Had to stop using that method.

anon39911

I have two on my knee and I tried the floss and clippers method as soon as I read all the posts on this article. I don't know how well the floss helped. Haha. I'm bleeding like crazy and I have *no idea* how to get it to stop. So, I'm still waiting on that one. Also, It didn't get all of the skin tag (sadly) so, I guess I'll either have to reattempt it- or just pay the copay at my doctor's office and have them cut it off. I'm not entirely sure yet. I also might try the vinegar idea. I can't find the post on it- but I'm desperate. I'm tired of not being able to wear shorts without people asking what the hell the "thing" is on my knee.

anon39897

Amazing advice!

I had about 5-7 of these on my neck. They are small enough that you can't notice them unless you are running your hands over my neck. I was a little self-conscious about them but I thought whatever.

My problem was the one on my back. It was small until three years ago when almost overnight it became the size of a pea. I wouldn't take my shirt off in front of *anyone*! Not only that but this thing *hurt*! Whenever I moved around a lot playing tennis at times it would catch on my shirt and pinch!

I cut off the small ones using this method! I only did one at a time but it worked wonders! Ice, ice, ice, ice! Of course sterilize whatever you are using but use ice for ten-15 minutes! It stings but you can go and snip it and not feel a thing and helps with clotting your blood.

I am too afraid to cut the one on my back because it is at an odd angle and it is the size of a pea. So I sterilized it, tied it with floss and am now waiting for the little devil to shrivel up and die! Thank you, especially if the big one dies off with no problem will have aleviated so much embarrassment for me that I will be forever grateful!

anon39790

I had one on the crease between my inner thigh and groin. Very annoying, unattractive little thing. After reading this, I decided to remove it myself. I skipped the icing, just grabbed some scissors and snipped it off. It took a bit of courage but there was no pain. It did bleed quite a bit however. Thanks so much for this article. I am so happy to have my skin tag gone :)

anon39695

I am so happy! I had, yes *had* a skin tag on my neck. I decided to be brave and attempt to remove it. I numbed the skin tag with an ice cube for about a minute. I then sterilized my pedicure scissors with alcohol. It only took one snip. It didn't hurt! I only felt a slight pinch and that's it! Voila! No more skin tag!

anon39562

It's gone! I love it. Thank you for this article. I didn't even bother with icing it down, just disinfected everything, tied some floss around it and snipped it with toenail clippers. I had a nice pinch cause I accidentally got some innocent skin with the clippers. :)

Practically no bleeding at all. If you can handle a hard pinch, you can do this.

anon39530

Cat claw clippers = worked great! Thank you, anon32772. XActo knife: really didn't work, and bled quite a bit. Can't believe I had the nerve for a second attempt after that, but thank goodness I went to the Web for help and found this site and the claw clipper comment. I was shaking like a leaf afterwards, but that ugly *thing* is gone!

anon39490

Thanks for the advice on this site. There are a few different methods. I opted for tyeing a thread around it, then freezing and cutting,no pain at all.

i had to get mine of as it was growing just under my nipple, and was getting big, and with my holiday in florida coming up it had to go.

once again thanks for the info.

anon39239

well i have to say i never thought i was going to get rid of those most annoying skin tags. i had 3 under my armpit for as long as i can remember. i must admit i was worried about the pain of removing them with clippers lol. but i did it and it worked amazing. no pain and i am as happy as i can be. i never wanted to wear strappy tops as i could see them. i think i'll enjoy my summers now. wow. thank you xxxx

anon39128

i have just removed a skin tag from the top of my inner thigh. I sterilized a pair of nail clippers, held ice to the tage for about a minute and then simply snipped! no pain at all and very little blood, just like a nip when shaving, if that.

anon39123

hi just cut one of with wart freezer and clippers. it's gone not too much blood hoping for best.

anon39058

Wow. I've had a skin tag around my groin that I was very self-conscious about. Quite embarrassing with the ladies but was also embarrassed to go to the doctor for it. I put floss around it, iced it, sterilized my fingernail clippers with soap then soaked in Peroxide, then snipped. Now I am a wuss. I was shaking. But like pulling a band-aid off, I went "1,2,3" and snipped really quickly. Gone! Minimal bleeding. Did *not* hurt a bit. Barely a pinch due to me numbing it with the ice. Thanks a lot for these tips.

anon38922

Thank you for this! I have had this skin tag for as long as I can remember. Just iced it, pulled it tight and snipped it with the cutters! It's gone and painless! I feel so brave. Thanks again.

anon38866

Thanks so much for this article.

Previously I heard about tying it with either a silk tread or surgical suture.

So, my wife had a skin tags the size of a golf ball under her armpit. (had) We used the dental floss approach and previously we sterilized a good pair of scissors. Cleaned the area with alcohol, tied it up, and snip.

My wife felt a little discomfort at first and very little bleeding. We stopped the bleeding with cotton swaps and alcohol at first. Placed a very tight Band-Aid with a cotton ball and Neosporin. I am sure tomorrow she will feel OK.

Thanks you, I just needed the facts.

anon38776

Yep. I had flirted with the idea of cutting them off before (neck, buttocks and armpit), but at the slightest pinch, there was pain. Finally, after so many testimonials here, I went and tried it, rather than a doctor visit, and rather than the $100 cream that is advertised, etc. Cleaned the area with alcohol prep pads, and went for the big one under the armpit first. There was the initial pain at the squeeze of the clippers, and I thought "oh crap, this is going to hurt", but just went 1, 2, 3, and clenched my teeth, and it really wasn't that bad. Like a good pinch, and that was it. Had to tug a little because the nail clippers were curved. There was a little redness, and on the second and third removals, a tiny drop of blood, as I think I puled some skin with it. But, cleaned that up, and have a bandaid on. Took off four in less than five minutes. A little soreness leftover now, but really no big deal. Thanks, everyone.

anon37628

Just used the information on this site to remove a skin tag and man does it feel good...

I had a skin tag low on my neck that rubbed the collar of all my shirts and became irritated and sore. After two days of annoying pain I decided to remove it but did not know how or even if it were safe to remove. My first search online provided me with this site and the information therein was very precise. I prepped the area and my tools, clamped the tab and drew a sterilized razor along the stalk. Quick and easy and surprisingly painless (it hurt more to clamp the thing!) I then gave the site a good alcohol cleaning and covered the wound with some liquid bandage. It's been about an hour since the bathroom surgery and its painless, clean, and not a drop of blood.

Thanks!

anon37467

I have... *had* a small skin tag on my neck/shoulder, and it never even crossed my mind that I could seriously clip it off myself. But after reading this article and everyone's comments, I decided to just suck it up and cut it off. I numbed it with an ice cube for a minute, grabbed a pair of nail clippers, and clipped it. Other than a slight pinch, it honestly did not really hurt at all. However, it certainly did bleed. I think I may have clipped it a bit too far away from skin. At any rate, it didn't hurt and I just put a band-aid on it. Once it heals up, I'm sure I'll be happy to finally have it gone!

anon37432

Thank you Thank you Thank you!

After reading all the posting, I got brave, got the floss, the clippers, the ice, the scissors, the alcohol, and cut it off! It took me about 2 minutes to get the guts, frrling the pressure and a little pinch, but *no pain* after. I just pressed the clippers hard and off it came! I am bleeding a little right now, but I am good to go!

anon37428

I consider myself a relatively tough guy, but I couldn't bring myself to clip my skin tags. I had two on my upper inner thigh that had been bothering me for about a year. I used the tie dental floss method, and about two days later they turned dark and shriveled up. Then with one quick and painless motion, I just pulled it off. But you have to tie the string really really tight.

anon37348

I am going to try the less violent remedies suggested by #254, #242, #240, #239 and #236. I'm not trying the product mentioned in #94 (it is for moles which are different than skin tags). If they don't work, then it is off to the doctor. I'm not going to try and fix these things by tying dental floss around them or using scissors or nail clippers. I would rather a professional do it, and also reassure me they aren't something other than skin tags.

anon37340

I can't believe I just preformed "surgery" on myself. I can only imagine what a doctor would have charged for what I did in a matter of minutes. Tied a rather large skin tag off with dental floss and then sniped with a small pair of scissors I washed with antibactieral soap. If I don't get an infection it worked great. Big ugly tag on my neck is gone. I am so happy. I actually have been wearing my hair longer than I would like just to hid it. Thanks so much for the advice.

anon37193

For all the people out there who are afraid to get the nail clippers out and just snip that darn skin tag off, don't be afraid! Me and my mom did the whole the process of steralizing the clippers, numbing my armpit (that was where the skin tag *was* located) and got a band aid ready. then we got ready to clip it off but she didn't even have to press down because i pulled back a little bit and it came off! i didn't feel a thing! the only thing is a little dot of blood came out but you just put the bandaid on and *presto*! i am skin tag free! (:

anon37061

Hey guys, I have a skin tag on my chin, well half way between my bottom lip and chin.

I've had some kind of skin tags in the past around the shoulder, and only one at a time so never bothered as they fall off themselves within a few weeks, but this on on my face just wasn't falling off so I tried the string method with a piece of my hair just a few days ago. I had two loops knotted, fitted it over my skin tag (very base) and pulled. Hard. It pinched, was red around the area in general for an hour or so and then I waited.... It didn't fall off so I've just tried the hair strand again and to my delight I can see I've cut through layers of skin and it should be falling off within a couple of days.

Hoping it won't leave a scar, never really thought about that until now, but it's better a little scar than this ugly thing sticking out of my chin.

Will post if this falls off or if I need to have a third attempt but I can see a big difference every time so worth trying!

anon37005

I had a large skin tag on my lower eyelid that looked terrible, and I was wary of cutting near my eye. I read the one post about using vinegar, and thought it was worth a try. I wet a small tissue with plain white vinegar then held it on the tag for a few minutes, trying not to get the vinegar in my eye. There were some fumes which were mildly irritating to the eye, but not horrible. After a few minutes I took tweezers and pulled, and to my astonishment the tag popped right off!. There was a very small amount of bleeding but it soon stopped.

I can't believe more people aren't using vinegar- much easier than tying and cutting, especially around sensitive areas like the eye. Many thanks to the person who first posted about vinegar- try it if you are afraid to cut- you have nothing to lose ( except that ugly tag!)

anon36896

I removed three of these today. Two smallish ones from under my armpit.. and a larger one off my back. I put some brand new scissors in boiling water between each one, had a baby-wipe ready after each snip.. used ice to numb the first one.. then snipped. After realizing how trivial the pain was, I didn't bother with the ice. Trust me, anyone reading this. It's easy. Dead easy. And almost pain free. My big one was round on my back, and I struggled to reach. After taking my time and getting the scissors in the right place, I snipped. Though after it went, there was still a strand left of skin. So I just had another go it was that painless. Trust me, even if you're cack handed like me, this is nothing. Wish I had done it years ago. Trust me. :)

anon36892

Just wanted to say that I've removed skin tags, too - one from my back right where my bra band went (I squeezed the tag with my fingers to numb it and then had hubby snip it off; one drop of blood was all, bandaid and voila!) - and one from my neck (actually just pinched it off with my fingernails). A slight pinching is all I ever feel, and the really small ones don't even bleed. Just do it quickly, and do take a second to sterilize the clippers or whatever you are using.

anon36820

I just read this and freaked out! Although I have a couple of skin tags under my arms, I've never been bothered by them. Recently, I developed one of the edge of my left nostril. What a weird place for a skin tag! It hurt and was very embarrassing. I checked out this site and figured I would give it a shot. I iced my nose, sterilized the area & nail clippers and then cut it. Although it hurt, there was very minimal bleeding and I am so much better off!! This site is amazing!

anon36656

Oh my gosh! I just squealed out loud! But *not* from pain...from the sheer joy of removing that unsightly skintag under my arm! A few weeks ago I noticed a little ugly friend under my arm, and have been agonizing about how disgusting it is. I haven't had time to make a dermatologist appt. and quite frankly am a little embarrassed to have a doctor up in my armpit. I googled "at home ways to remove skin tags" and voila, I found this. I read through everyone's posts, and was a little frightened up snipping off a part of myself at home. I tried tying floss around it, but uh...yeah, definitely can't reach under my arm with both hands. So I sucked it up, go the scissors, and snipped. I'll admit, my stomach turned a little at the sight of my skin on a scissor blade, but I *swear* to you, it *did not hurt!!!!* Mine was very small, so it might hurt more if they are bigger, but I'm telling you, get your scissors out and snip those babies off!

anon36655

I just tried the method that anon1381, or the nurse, suggested and it worked like a charm. I had a skin tag in my armpit and I was embarrassed to raise my arms in a tank top.. and this is a problem because I am a cheerleader!! I tied if off with dental floss and put an icepack on it until it was numb. Then I used a pair of Cuticle clippers to clip it off and it didn't hurt at all! I removed the floss a little too soon because it didn't seem to be bleeding, but as soon as I removed it, a tiny bit of blood came up but nothing serious. I'd advise leaving the floss on for a few minutes! Also, I reapplied the icepack afterwards and that felt nice! Then I put on a bandaid with some triple antibiotic cream on it and tah-dah. The rest is history! No more embarrassment! Thanks so much for the tips!

anon36481

I finally got the guts to snip off an unpleasant skin tag under my arm that's been there for many years. I tried two other methods but finally decided to snip it off. I first tried one of those at home mole removal solutions but because of the location under my arm it was very hard to completely cover with the solution and after a day I could tell it wasn't going to completely remove the tag. Next I decided the tie-a-string around the base method but I was surprised that this actually hurt and the next day the skin tag was swollen and oozing. I just wanted the thing gone I didn't have the patience to wait a week. Finally with the string still in place, some sharp nail scissors, alcohol, and a dose of confidence, I just snipped the thing off. It's gone and I'm thrilled. It did bleed quite a bit, but the bleeding stopped after maybe ten minutes, the skin tag is gone, and I'm thrilled. By the way the snipping hurt less than tying it with a string.

anon35902

Wow! I was so embrassed about the hundreds of skin tags on each side of my neck! Little kids would say gross are try to pull them off. I am so glad I found this site - I just cut off about 90 skin tags in various sizes. I look and feel great! I can now wear my hair up again!!!! Thanks!!!

anon35797

Hey, I had one, and tried the floss method of tying and leaving for a week or so to fall off. Hurt so much, regretted it. Especially the first hour, and the next 3 days, i couldn't even work the first day, just laid there in pain. Couldn't take off the floss, so was stuck. Did after a week and a few days had some of it fall off, but still had some. Then tried the nail polish, a few times a day (and also after every bowel movement) Stings for a minute or so, then don't feel it. This over 3 weeks has shrunken it and can't even notice now. In the future I will ONLY do clear nail polish, and that's what I'd recommend.

anon35517

Thanks anon1381. i removed approximately 20 skin tags tonight - all along my lower neck on both sides and back. i went to the dermatologist who was going to charge me $150 - so thank you for the savings! I also had some EMLA Cream 5% that I previously ordered from Amazon which is a topical anesthesia.. didn't feel a thing. thank you all!!

anon35485

I just had my wife remove a skin tag on my back that was a bit larger than a pea. First, four days ago she tied it with dental floss and it did nothing but swell up. So this morning we iced it and then she snipped it off with some sharp scissors.

I'm not going to lie, it hurt. It really *hurt*! But only for a second and that was it. It's off now, and I just hope it doesn't grow back.

I'm going to try preserving it in alcohol. Does anyone have a method to preserve a large skin tag?

anon35393

Another great way to remove skin tags. I use it all the time. Doctors will use liquid nitrogen in a sprecial sprayer with a pin point to freeze the tags. You can do the same. Pharmacy stores sell a wart removal kit that freezes warts. It's a liquid in a canister to which you attach a foam tip on a hollow stick. You spray through the tip for a few seconds, remove it and use the frozen tip to then freeze the tag. There is a slight stinging feeling but not pain. The tag will turn black in a few days and fall off. No cutting, no thread ties, no mess. It is important to note that you make sure not to touch anything other than the tag with the frozen tip or you will burn your skin as well.

anon35071

I just got done removing 6 skin tags that had formed around the baseline of my penis. Even though they were in a place that not many people see, I was *very* embarrassed by them. And I would see them every time I'd use the bathroom and wish they would disappear. I used the method that anon1381 gave and the pain was *very* minimal, only half of them actually gave a pinch feeling and I didn't feel the other half. I thank anon1381 for posting in such detail on this procedure. I encourage others to do this!!! I was so afraid to do it, but once the first one was cut off, I was excited to get rid of the rest of them lol. Do it people!!! Stop putting up with these pesky things, and *don't* buy other expensive products (even natural substances), because I bought some stuff that was $50 and it only had enough to remove a few skin tags and it didn't even work!!! It only dried out about half of two skin tags, but they never fell off and still remained!! As I said before, do what anon1381 describes!!! Scroll down and read anon1381's detailed procedure...it works and is almost painless!!! Thank you so much!!!

anon35041

Contacted the local dermantologist and they wanted to charge 200 just for a visit and 130 and up to take the tags off. Well it was pretty priceless to remove them myself and boy am I proud. It really didn't hurt, I guess just knowing your cutting your own body is a pretty scary thing. It did bleed, but after applying some pressure it stopped.

anon34883

I cannot thank you enough for this web page. I was getting seriously light-headed thinking about cutting these things off my neck. Years ago, I had one under my arm that a doctor told me to cut off myself, and I thought he was crazy. That one eventually fell off by itself after cutting it while shaving numerous times. It always hurt when that happened, and I couldn't imagine purposely cutting 10 of them off my own neck.

After reading through the posts on this page, I worked up the nerve to do it, though. I poured alcohol over a little pair of scissors from my manicure set, then went to snipping. It was only a little pinch of pain for each one. I had 4 big ones that bled a bit. They're covered with bandages now. I cleaned them all with peroxide too. Thank you, again!

anon34803

I read this article last night, and not willing to go the "cut it off" route, I made a slip-knot with dental floss and tightened it around the base of the tag (approximately 1/4"+ long by 1/8" around, and slightly darker than my overall skin tone, much like a freckle color), and left enough floss to be able to grasp to later tighten it. I felt only a minor pinching while pulling the floss tight. I then tucked up the extra floss under a band-aid to keep it from getting tangled in my clothes.

I had thought that it may take a few days or a week for the lack of circulation to kill the tissue so that it would drop off, but today after a shower I tightened the floss again, and much to my surprise the tag just popped off. Again, only a minor pinching sensation as I tightened the floss, but best of all there was absolutely no blood.

I swabbed the area with alcohol and covered it with a "liquid bandage," which caused only a very small sting. It's about six hours later now, and it looks like it was never there.

anon34762

i have one on my inner thigh... i'm currently sitting here with ice down there (not comfy but i'd rather not feel the pain... i also have the dental floss around it really tight... i'm going to snip it here in a min... wish me luck...

jtal19

I had mine removed by a doctor.

anon33813

I stumbled upon this site the other day and it took me two days to get up the courage to remove a small (size of a piece of rice) skin tag on my neck. It did not hurt at all, the idea of doing it was worse than actually doing it. I am so thankful to all of you for your advice and tips. I used alcohol on some sharp nail clippers and the tag, then just went for it. It was too small to use floss or string. Afterwards I used more alcohol and neosporin with a bandaid. You can't even see where it was and there was basically no blood at all. I am so thankful I know that I can do this now because it is hereditary and I know I will need to do it in the future!! Thanks to all of you!!

anon33651

Fantastic advice all thank you very much, I got rid of my 3 biggest tags and it was easy as pie.

Oh and it really doesn't hurt.

anon33558

I took my sister's suggestion since she is a doctor and helped me with this. All she did was take a thread and tied it off really tightly. She basically just cut the circulation of blood off to the skin tag. Every night I would make sure that the thread was tightly secured around the tag and would try to tighten it every night.

Over the next few days, the skin tag turned black which meant there was no blood flow to it. It felt numb and I I just pulled on the thread ...and bam, the skin tag came off.

The skin was dried up and black looking. I think I like my method instead of using a nail clipper or tweezer to pull it off. Hope this helps somebody out there. By the way, my skin tag was also in my "under arm".

anon33383

I was shaking reading all of these, I only had a small one under my underarm, the size of half a grain of rice maybe. i walked around the house with a sandwich bag of ice under my arm for about 10 minutes, i got the antiseptic cream, sterilized nail clippers and a first aid kit with antiseptic wipes etc in it, put it all on my sink in front of my self lighting mirror. i washed my hands and underarm thoroughly. i felt a tad faint throughout but just took deep breaths and focused on how i hated putting my arms in the air with this beast. i put some antiseptic cream on cotton wool pad, laid it next to the sink, an antiseptic wipe next to that, then the tweezers. i took the bag of ice away and touched it to see if it was numb, it was sore from the ice a bit but the actual tag was numb, so i went for it, i clipped it, it hurt a little and didn't come off at first, so put the ice on again, put the clippers in boiling water again, waited a few minutes then did it again.. this time it didn't hurt at all but i had to pull at it a bit to get it off, it took about 2 minutes to get it all off. i cleaned the area with an antiseptic wipe then put the pad with cream on it while i got a plaster out, put a little savlon on then the big plaster (not realizing that i had just put a huge plaster under my arm and couldn't rest it down again properly!) the area feels a bit odd from the ice but i'm going to let it rest today and will check it out when i clean later...

i felt soooo nervous but am glad i did it, it got in the way and i found it hard to shave under there with it as it would bleed etc. in fact, it bled more and hurt more when i caught it with the razor in the shower than clipping it off did!

it's worth it.

anon33196

I have been using the castor oil/baking soda paste for about a week on a skin tag right at the crease of my nose and cheek.. too tough to cut. It has shrunken immensely. I figure about another week and it'll be just about gone. It's right where sunglasses hit and that can be irritating. I may stop in a day or so and see what happens because I am traveling soon and I do put a bandaid over it for protection since my reading glasses/sunglasses hit right where it is. However, it is working.

anon33157

i had a skin tag in a private area and i really wanted it off so badly..but im such a wimp i couldn't dare to think of cutting it myself so i opted for the string method..i tied it tightly and hoping it would work..the next day its all sore and swollen..i could not barely walk. its really painful that i could not even sleep because of the pain..i wanted to remove the string thinking it had caused an infection..but to my horror..the string was already deeply embedded through the very sore skin tag..so i could not do anything except to just take antibiotics and pain reliever as i was too embarrassed to go to the doctor with a string under my private area..huhuhu..however on the 5th day..it did turn hard and grayish and the pain became tolerable..i can even walk a bit straight..since its not that painful anymore..i just waited for it to fall off..and it did..luckily..after 12 days...well when i see it come off i just forgot about all the pain that i went through..im happy its gone now..but to be honest im also thinking that maybe if i just got the nerve to cut it off..its just a moment of pain..but anyway its gone now..so im happy

I had a tag on my neck that looked like a mole - it was reddish brown in color but had a thin stock so I knew it was a tag. I just clipped it off... it didn't hurt but it bled pretty good. I looked at the dead piece I cut off and it had turned pinkish gray - it had been full of blood. I'll have to keep an eye on it but it sure feels good to have it gone!

stpaul5

*Found the cure for these tags!* Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Facial Pads...skin tags are drying up like crazy. Use it twice a day.

anon32772

This article was extremely helpful...thank you! Thanks to the tips here, I snipped a few tags tonight and saved a lot of money. The icing was by far the best tip. Although I was anticipating pain, there really was none--I guess because everything was numb. Now, here is another tip that I hope you find helpful. I found the nail clippers a bit awkward and I didn't have any supersharp scissors. What I did have (and that I sterilized thoroughly, believe me) was very sharp nail scissors for my cat. You pet owners know what I'm talking about--they have a curved blade and are very sharp. They went perfectly around the base of of the tag and got it off in one painless snip. I can't wait to do the rest of them this weekend!

anon32740

for those of you that wonder why they keep coming back... I heard from a doctor that *fat* promotes mole and skin tag growth!

pyrokitty04

I have about 40 skin tags (total) on my armpits and neck. I've had them since I was a kid, some are pretty huge. I had no idea they were skin tags until I went to the doc for a cyst that I had. I found a few people who would remove them (including my doctor) but both required $$ that I don't have. My fiance googled skin tag removal and found your site. He e-mailed me the link last night...I was cautious of removing them myself cause I'm prone to infection.

After I got the e-mail I sanitized some sharp scissors and nail clippers. I have removed all the tags on my neck, which were 6 and I removed 5 of the ones on my armpits. The wounds are now covered in bandaids so I don't bleed everywhere. My neck already looks better! Thanks

WikedDiam0nd

OMG!!!

Thank you so much to all of you who posted on this article.

You all literally gave me inspiration.

I've had 2 skin tags on my left underarm and thought there was no resolution unless you went to a doctor and paid buccos of money.

I removed them myself today and they literally *did not* hurt at all!

I numbed them with ice then snip snip and viola gone!

As soon as they were both removed I automatically felt different in a good way about myself.

I can't thank this site or all of your words of encouragement enough. For anyone out there wanting to do it... *just do it!* The things I used are as follows..

1. Alcohol (to clean hands, clippers, & skin tag before removing)

2. Ice to numb skin tag

3. Nail Clippers

4. Wet cotton balls (to absorb any blood and stop the bleeding *which wasn't much)

5. Peroxide

6. Neosporin

7. Bandaids

Good luck!

anon32559

Just wanted 2 share my story--found this site about 3 weeks ago while searching for a way to get rid of a skin tag that appeared on my face about 6 months ago...didn't want to pay the doc a ridiculous amt of $$, and didn't want to risk payin for a cream or solution that didn't work, so i decided to take the "ice and clippers" route. It took me 3 weeks to work up the courage to do it (not sure what I was afraid of as I have many tattoo's and piercings)...iced it down for about 15 minutes, tried to tie floss around the base but it was so small that i couldn't get the string around it....took a deep breath and clipped it...saw blood immediately and noticed that it was still there....got right up on the mirror and ran my nail across it to see how much of the base was still attached and it came right off under my nail-*voila*!!! My face is pretty puffy but I suspect it's from icing that spot for so long....*so mad that it took that long to work up the courage tho*!

I felt the tiniest pinch when I clipped it and no pain at all when I ran my nail across! I have a few more about that same size that I'm going after next!!! Thanks so much for posting to this site and saving me some $$!!!

anon32399

Okay, I actually didn't know that I had skin tags until stumbling onto an article on yahoo answers. After reading, I discovered what I thought were moles or a wart was actually a skin tag and that I could remove it! I followed all the instructions and with some encouragement from my husband took the plunge! Viola no more skin tags!

anon32330

No thanks. I prefer the FDA's approval on products. Glad it worked for you, but there are about 100 posts on this site that say I don't need to buy your unapproved products. Thanks though.

anon32329

Dangerous and not recommended! Get a good product to do it that is natural and works. I also used Skin Tags DX from Derma Remedies and it worked like a charm!

anon32328

Who needs to buy products when you can just do it yourself in just a few minutes? Go with the ice and clippers!! Worked great! No pain at all!

anon32323

I used Skin Tag DX from Derma Remedies too....You cannot go wrong!! Excellent stuff, got rid of mine in a flash!

robby

There is no way I would use dental floss or any other method to remove a skin tag by myself. That can be dangerous! I had loads of skin tags and definitely needed a good natural product to get rid of them.

Derma Remedies have the best skin tag product on the market. Its natural and is really easy to apply and works quickly. It was an easy pain free and stress free way to get rid of them....most importantly, its safe and they don't grow back!

anon32320

I just removed one from my scrotum. I was very very nervous, but was surprised to not feel a thing. I had previously tried to freeze it off with some freeze wart remover, but that simply turned it into a large blister-tag that promptly popped and was aggravated and tender for a couple weeks. Moral of the story - follow the procedure. Ice, floss, clippers and presto; even in this sensitive area. Worst part is going to be removing the bandaid.

anon32163

(from dp and mp) We did it! Sterilized the scissors, had some cotton and peroxide ready, iced the tag for about 1 minute, then *snip*, it didn't feel a thing, just a very small amount of blood. Put on dab of antibiotic cream, then a Band-Aid. Took about 15 minutes. It saved us from a $65 treatment, excluding gas for the drive.

robby

Derma Remedies definitely have the best product to get rid of skin tags! Its natural and leaves no scarring.

kshy

can this dental floss or thread technique be used on keliods? i have one behind my ear after months of being pierced, it isn't big it's the size of a pea.

anon31877

i had skin tags on my vaginal area. i had them removed professionally by a gyne. the problem is now i have more skin tags growing down there. i have been tested and nothing is wrong with me, but they keep appearing and popping up. i can't tolerate the pain so i am going to try the castor oil and see how it goes.

anon31837

I have had a skin tag attached to the skin on my vulva for several months. As you can imagine, this is a very sensitive spot and I was reluctant to try removal on my own. I tried just tying the dental floss around it and it did not come off. After reading several of these comments, I tied the dental floss around the base, pulled it very tight feeling a little pinch, cleaned large toe nail clippers (wanted to make sure it worked first time around). I paused, closed them around it just a little and stopped and that stung a little. Then I remembered watching a show recreating an actual experience of a man whose arm was caught in a mulch shredder on a farm and no one was around. Either he was going to bleed to death and die, or chop his own arm off and he did it with a pocket knife. So I figured if he could do that, I could certainly cut this little thing off. I braced myself, closed my eyes and clipped and sure enough, that little bugger is gone and there was hardly any bleeding. Now I feel victorious - thank you!

anon31719

I have had a skin tag under my arm for years and I was so tired of it. I found this article and thought I was going to faint, but after reading the comments I thought I would give it a try. Tied it off with dental floss (thread was too slippery). Froze for several minutes and used sterilized nail clippers. Two clips and off. It bled for a few minutes. Pain was only a pinch.

I can't deal with blood. If my kids bleed I have to get someone to deal with it or I get sick. If I can do this anyone can!

anon31670

I didn't even get through half of these posts because it was making me light headed and I can't really believe what I just did. I've had this thing on my inner thigh for a few years now and it's sort of been just another reason to not wear shorts, but a few days ago it got bigger out of nowhere and it hurt. Of course not knowing what it was, I started messing with it and it finally when down in size, but I had also taken skin off of it. Then it was bleeding inside.

I walked around for a few minutes with a double tied piece of floss around it, got peroxide, bandaids, neosporin, the sharp clippers and realized I'm the only person in the world without ice, said now or never. Currently in my trash can is a lump of skin half black with blood and the other half flesh colored. I think it's still going to take a few more hours to sink in that that thing is no longer there, but yay.

anon31624

WOW! I can't believe I was nervous. It was so easy! Great method and painless.

anon31547

i finally did it after 3 attempts. a lot of blood, but calmed down after 5 min. mine was huge. had it on my bikini line. been there for years. always made me paranoid even when was in labor it crossed my mind lol. anyway, i sterilized big nail clippers, froze the area with frozen peas, (u will b glad to here won't b using lol) and sniped it right of. it did take 3 attempts. it's like a quick sting then gone. i didn't freeze it right because it was too cold so i assume if you freeze it totally there'd be no pain.. thank you xx

anon31536

Having had 2 very annoying skin tags on my lower back for years I visited my GP who point blank refused to remove them and that it was normal to have skin tags " Most people have them " was his response "live with it" and showed me the door. How grateful was I to find this site? After getting my wife to tie off the skin tags with dental floss I let the floss do it's work and hey presto after a week they fell off and it's as though they were never there!

It wasn't a painful procedure just a little bit uncomfortable at times until they fell off. I don't have to thank my GP for anything!

anon31495

I did it. I had a skin tag that magically appeared a couple of months ago. I tied it with dental floss (had to use tweezers to pull it out to get to the base of it). I then iced it for 5-10 minutes until it was hard. By all means, it took courage for me to do it. But it was literally just a pinch. Didn't bleed at first until I put alcohol on it and then it just clotted essentially. No pain afterward at all. I definitely recommend this to anyone, even those squeamish people like me out there. Just get over it and do it!

anon31244

Just removed two in about 3 minutes. I tied with floss, cleaned with rubbing alcohol, iced for 30 seconds and clipped! It made a little crunch and then was gone, nearly no pain at all. It was a nice smooth cut and it is completely gone, with no blood on either one. *Very* simple and a *great* feeling! If you are hesitant, don't be, go for it!

anon31214

I was seriously terrified to try this. I had one in my armpit that had been there for as long as I can remember, and it always interfered with shaving and made me really self-conscious. I finally got the nerve to do it, after reading about 1/2 of these forums. I was shaking and really nervous- I tried to tie it off, but that was a joke- because it was under my armpit, I can't use two hands and failed miserably. So I just iced it for 10 minutes off/on, and just... snipped. I looked at it and was like "that's it? its gone?!" I seriously didn't feel a *thing.* The ice helped a lot. So stop reading these and just do it! Get it over with!!

miners60

I read something that said to use oregano oil on it twice a day w/a q-tip w/out the cotton in it. Just make sure you don't get it on the skin around the skin tag. You can use tea tree oil-apply it w/a cotton ball. It should fall off in a few days. I'm trying the oregano oil & boy did it sting.

anon30873

I have dealt with a skin tag the size of a large pea for a years now. It's been a constant source of embarrassment. I finally started looking up how or where to get it removed when I came across this page. What a godsend! After reading everyone's success stories I decided to go for it!

I just did it about 5min ago and my god why did I let myself deal with that for so long! Like everyone else I followed nurses instructions and tied off, iced, sanitized and clipped with nail clippers and like others I pressed down and I was shaking and so nervous and I barely pinched and thought, well I'm going to wuss out, and when I looked down it was in the clippers and *finally off my body!*

No pain, just a pinch. It is bleeding quite a bit, but I used medical gauze and taped it on to stop the bleeding, it should stop soon. I was so pleased I decided to do one on my neck I've had since I was a kid. Yay! Couldn't be happier! Thanks *sooo* much for the amazing info. Nail clippers were the best idea!!

anon30752

Just removed two. One on my neck and the other on my armpit. Easily done. Icing it down hurts more, but I cut the second one without ice and didn't even feel any pain.

I look amazing in the mirror without those darn little buggers.

anon30686

As shouldn't need to be pointed out to anyone, really, *do not* attempt home remedies for skin tags on or around the eyes. There is too much potential for injury or infection. I have one on the edge of my eyelid that I simply live with because it would cost an arm & a leg to have the dermatologist take care of it.

But thanks in general for the info, because I have no such compunctions about the ones around my neck and underarms!

anon30649

I'm going to try a mixture of these cures this weekend. I have several (and I do mean several) of these on my neck and a few under my arms.

As they vary in size I'm hoping the wart cure will work on the little ones.

Wish me luck - this will make me feel so much better about myself. Having these have made me very uncomfortable with my body.

anon30362

Wow!!! I'm so grateful for this site and to everyone who wrote in! I read the instructions but wasn't thrilled about clipping them off myself (I have 2, one little and one the size of a raisin).

I was so nervous that I took 2 tylenol before hand just in case. First I used peroxide and cleaned my clippers, floss, fingers and skin tags as the nurse below suggested. I tied the floss but couldn't get it positioned correctly - I decided to skip it. I iced for about 45 seconds on the first one, put my nail clippers in place and began mentally pushing myself to do it. I shut my eyes and clamped down but chickened out at the last second and barely closed the things. I felt a tiny twinge of pain (not as bad as biting my tongue). When I opened my eyes the skin tag was in the clippers!!! It was bleeding for only a moment before it clogged! Incredible!

The second and the largest of the two I did the same thing for. I squeezed a little bit firmer and held it there for about 10 seconds. I didn't think it worked but sure enough when I pulled the clippers away the skin tag was gone. I didn't feel that one at all. I am beyond thrilled that I don't have to deal with those ugly things anymore!! My only regret is that I didn't find this site sooner!

Thanks to everyone who gave their feedback - it totally gave me the encouragement I needed!

anon30359

Great. This site gave me the courage. I got the toenail clippers, cleaned them, iced the tag, told hubby what to do, and not only did he *not* get the entire skin tag, but he cut my back too! Darnitall. The good news is that it really didn't hurt... much. I might have him try again when this debacle heals, or I'll just pay my dermatologist the $120.

anon30283

Wow! congrats to everyone who has done this. I have a very large skin tag on my neck that gets caught on my necklace and that my 9 mo old thinks is her own personal pull toy..lol. I'm nervous but I'm going to give it a try. You'd think after having 2 kids I wouldn't worry so much about the pain, doctors are charging 100 plus to do this simple procedure. thank you again

anon30090

I just got a skin tag cut off by my husband 3 days agofrom my inner thigh. It was very scary but thank God it is over. We iced and tied it with floss. The scissors were not too sharp and left a little stub, but the tag is gone and it was pretty big too, bigger than a raisin. It bled for a while and then eased off. Try the liquid bandage, it's amazing how it seals and dries it faster. Thanks to everyone here I got the courage to cut mine off and I am sooo happy I did! thanks again. God Bless

anon29947

Just did this after reading all the posts. The hardest part is talking yourself into it. Definitely use the floss and ice the tag before cutting.

My husband did all the cutting. We used nail clippers. The first one easy. The base was thin but the second one took a few snips to get through. Faster than going to the doctor and of course we all had a good laugh.

anon29813

I have had a skin tag for a couple years now. It was located toward the back of my armpit so if I wore tank tops it was very visible. I am getting married in June and did not even want to go try on dresses because of my hideous growth. I even thought about just trying on dresses with sleeves to hide it. I have a terrible fear of doctors and did not want to have to go in to get it removed.

I started searching and came across this site. It took a while to build up the nerve to do it but I finally did! It's gone! It's still bleeding but I would rather deal with a little blood then being self-conscious and uncomfortable on my wedding day! Thanks to everyone who posted their stories. This is truly what helped me to realize how easy and simple and virtually painless it would be. You have changed my life!

anon29808

I followed the instructions for a large skin tag on my inner thigh and it worked wonderfully. It did sting a little, but I think taking the band-aid off is going to hurt worse! Thanks for the advice...

anon29753

I did it! They are gone. Tie, freeze, cleaned clippers, clip, gone! So easy. I have had them under my arms since I could remember and I am now 19.

I have always been self conscious to lift my arms during any situation, even the intimate ones. Yeah, it was no big deal. I just did it. I wish I would have known about this sooner. Well anyway, they are gone. Thank you.

glover10

Please if you feel that you cannot handle removing a skin tag do not try it!!! It probably could have worked for me. I did try the floss, finger nail clippers, etc... But I did not have enough nerve to finish what I started. I tied the floss around my skin tag and left it on there to try to kill the nerve..( There is a nerve in your skin tags) Long story short I ended up with an infection. I had to go to the doctor and have it removed. He removed it with no problem it healed in 2 days and there is no sign that it was ever there. :)

tlrkirsch

Holy Cow, this was really great. About a year ago I clipped a tag on my upper thigh, I froze it with wart freeze spray, after a month it was healing fine. I only did this because the tag kept getting caught by my underpants when i'd sit. I sit all day at a desk so it was painful all the time.

I also have several tags on my neck, I "had" three on the front that were brown in color and I hated them. Well I was just too chicken to clip them. Until I came on this site, after reading and reading, I just did it. I followed the ice prep, which was stinging so I decided to just clip it quick. TaDa, they are gone.

I will say for me I had two reactions, the small one and the medium ones were easy and didn't bleed a great deal, but the third one is still bleeding about 20 minutes. I finally stuck some ointment, gauze and a bandaid on it. I'm glad I didn't do the large one first, because I wouldn't have done the other too with all the bleeding. I'm not worried about doing the rest of them on the side of my neck, I'm just not going to do several at once anymore, I'll do two at a time so I don't have bandaids all other my neck, hahahaha what a sight.

Thank you all!!

anon29292

I just cut a skin tag off the eye lid of my girlfriend. *Wow*. I followed the instructions: ice, sterilize, floss, snip x 2... G-o-n-e! Do this for yourself or someone you really love.

Thanks so much for this site!

anon29281

Thank you soo much! I would have never had the guts to do this without this site's reassurances. It was a lot easier than I thought. Luckily, I only had one. I don't think I could mentally do it over and over again. This has removed so much stress from my day to day living. I thank you all so very much!!!! Best part is, with lots of ice, it was absolutely painless. It bled a lot, but I think I finally got it under control. Do this, it really truly, 100% works!!!

anon29248

I would like to post, along with everyone else, how helpful this article was to me.

I'm probably one of the most squeamish, chicken people in the world. I can't handle anything, it's sad. But I iced up the area until it was past the stinging... (it took about 2 minutes for me because i used an ice pack) then used a pair of sanitized toenail clippers.

It took me a lot of breathing and building up my courage to finally do it, but it only took one snip and it was gone. I didn't feel a thing besides the pinch of the clippers. It bled a little, then I cleaned it & put a bandaid on. It's gone!

This isn't anything painful or hard, nobody should have any problems doing this!! I urge you all to breathe & be brave, it's really less than a papercut. I promise.

anon29171

I had a skin tag on my neck ever since I was a kid (20yrs now) for the last ten years whenever my long hair was down sometimes hair would get around the base of the tag and it honestly felt like the worst tiny paper cut *ever!* So instead of doing anything I'd wear my hair up.

I got the guts to do it at home, this site plus people's comments really helped. I got my boyfriend to do it for me -since the angle would be hard on my own-

Went out and bought

New nail clippers

Bandaids

Iced it for 10mins

Alcohol wiped the clippers/next.

Clipped it, pinched hurt a bit (nothing like the pain of my hair getting it)

Then gone.

Thanks you guys

anon29092

i have one on my inner thigh and am a complete wuss about blood and cutting things so i just wanted to know if anyone has had success with the oil/baking soda solution. it's a very small tag but i would much rather have to put that on it and have it fall off than cutting it. so if anyone has tried it please let me know of the successes and failures you accompany with it.

anon28962

Ive had these tags in my groin area for a couple of years, a couple of which got pretty big 1/4 in. or so. I tried the castor oil method, it dried them up a bit, but it takes too long, and actually was irritating. I just decided to get rid of the biggest ones by cutting them off, screw the ice and go for the "computer duster" compressed air held upside down, forget about the string or floss with this method, it isn't necessary considering if you just do it it is over in a few seconds, carefully squeeze the trigger and the thing is as frozen as an ice cube, if you can squeeze so little that you can get the "juice" to drip from the straw on the tag this is by far the best. It freezes like a polar ice cap. This itself may work for removal.

I have an excellent tolerance to pain, but i'm happy to report that there wasn't any. The first one I cut I barely froze it and it bled awhile, but as I went I used a little more duster, the cold seems to lessen bleeding, but be careful this stuff gets so cold it could cause some serious frostbite.

After you cut it apply pressure immediately and bleeding will be minimal. I removed six or so in an hour, pausing in between to sterilize and stop bleeding.

I'm so happy I found this site. Very embarrassing having these things down there. I have a lot of small ones, too small to cut off. I am planning on trying the liquid skin as that method is said to work better on small ones. Good luck everyone, hope this helps.

sneedette

OMG!!! I did it. I followed what everyone said and it's gone.

I didn't have alcohol so I used peroxide. I froze with ice 8 min. Then cut it with scissors.

(My toe nail clippers are not to sharp).

Thank you all. And, thank God for this site.

anon28904

With each step I cleaned with alcohol. I want to mention that moving the tags back and forth, and rubbing them with my clothing, hurts *more* than cutting them off. I tied my first and biggest one with floss, and iced it for 4 minutes or so. I dipped my nail clippers in alcohol and put them around the tag and cut it. It only hurts at the first moment of the squeeze, not at the actual cutting.

The second one I removed without floss, just icing it. I think the floss was in the way of getting close enough to the skin with the first one, so it is still raised and I may not have cut the "tangles" off. But the second one without floss kept bleeding longer. I put band aids on them overnight, and the second one leaked a bit. Still not the profuse bleeding I was afraid of.

anon28872

I am still reading this page with my face half turned away of the screen, hand in front of my mouth, and my tags still under my upper arm. I have never felt so much amazing appreciation for so many courageous fellow people. *Wow*! Everyone is just cutting off their own skin tags and I thought I was a strong no-nonsense person. If anyone on the planet would use an "alternative" method it would be me. But cutting of my tags.... I am breathless!! Thank you courageous souls. I will think about this, and probably do it. But this all first needs to sink in a bit.

anon28825

Stop reading this now, got get some ice cubes, put them in a bag and place on the skin tag for as long as possible. Then snip away with sterile clippers. I used toenail clippers. I can't believe how long I chickened out! No real pain. Hardly any bleeding!

anon28798

Thank you for your article. I've had two skin tags on my armpit for as long as I can remember, but I wasn't sure if I should just leave them alone or not. Until the other day one got caught on a piece of clothing and ripped in half it hurt more and more after a few days and I found this site and I figured now is as good as a time as any. So I decided to just do it.

I iced it down for 10 minutes and was just going to do the one for now, but after I realized it didn't hurt I figured I might as well do the second one. And it didn't hurt at all. Who knew these pesky little things could be removed so easily.

anon28653

Thank you, anon1381 ("the nurse"). Your advice has worked wonders. I've had this thing on my neck for quite some time now, progressively getting larger. I hated it so much and was considering just going to a dermatologist with it (I have in the past with another one), but never had the time or the extra cash to do it.

So, tonight I just Googled this site, read many of the posts. I followed the nurse's advice, which was great.

The most problem I've had was tying a thread around it and getting it to stay there tightly, then making sure it's as tight as possible. That took me the longest, because my tag wasn't all that big, I guess. But, with a little patience, I did it. I patted it with some alcohol again, applied ice, and waited. After about 2 minutes, the tag turned completely white (no blood circulation), and totally numb (also from the ice). Then, I clipped it. *It did not hurt*. I just made sure not to cut too low (like I said, my tag wasn't all that big, but annoying and noticeable enough, trust me). I was bleeding, but I didn't care because there was no pain, only *relief*. This thing is finally gone. So, thank you everyone!!!

I've had a skin tag under my arm since I was 3-4 years old. I never thought anything of it, until one of my students (I teach dance) got really freaked out when she saw it, then i became more self conscience. I was going to go to the doctor to have it removed, but when I read all the other people's stories about pea-size tags under the armpit i decided to give it a try. It worked great and now all I have is a small scar from where the skin tag used to be.

anon28481

I got several of these under my armpits growing up, and my mom had a home remedy that worked awesome. Instead of tying them with thread or floss, I was taught to use a piece of my own hair. You could barely see anything, and within 48 hours, it fell off with no blood or pain!

anon28072

Wow. I can't believe it. It took me two visits to this site and an hour and a half to get the nerve up, but I *finally* clipped my age-old skin tag on my left eyelid. That sucker has been there since I was in high school.

My dad had a skin tag on his eyelid, too. Mine never bothered me, and I just lived with it, but now that I'm in my mid-30's, it began to grow bigger--it was about 1 mm round. I noticed the enlargement when it began to feel like something was on my eyelid when I blinked. And sure enough, the thing began to get very noticeable, as it was just in front of the eyelid fold. When I applied eye shadow, it was even more noticeable.

I was going to go with the tie-off method until I read that it took weeks for some people and for others the tag just got discolored. So I decided to go for the gusto. I'm still shaking, but that sucker is gone! It really didn't hurt, just like the others wrote. I sterilized the clipper and I iced the skin tag for several minutes--on and off as much as I could stand at a time. Then, once I felt comfortable that I'd slid the clipper around the tag and positioned it so that I wouldn't take a chunk of my eyelid, I began to clip. It started to hurt so I stopped. That's when I realized I either had to do it or not. So I positioned again and squeezed. I pulled my hand away and thought I'd missed it until I saw the thing in the clipper! Then I used an antiseptic wipe, some hydrogen peroxide and some polysporin and *voila*!! Good riddance.

Though it looks disgusting, it's so nice to see it on my bathroom counter and not on my eyelid anymore! There was very minimal blood and my eyelid aches a bit since I was messing with it for so long before I actually clipped it. And now I'm so pleased with myself and my new eyelid.

anon27844

Well, i first tried just snipping my skin tag with normal nail scissors, don't try that, it's very painful. Next, i went onto this website, it helped a great deal these were my steps:

1. Get things you need i.e ice, plaster, string/thread, antiseptic spray etc, sharp scissors and a lot of tissue.

2. I went on to spray my scissors and skin tag with antiseptic spray.

3. Next i iced the skin tag and while i was waiting, prepared a knot to tie it up with the thread.

4. I tied the knot and cut just above it with the scissors, it wasn't that painful, but it stung a lot for about a second.

5. I used tissue and tissue and eventually put a plaster on it, lets not lie in my case there was a lot of blood, it's definitely better than going to the doctor!

anon27814

OMG! That was soooooo easy to do! I had a tag on my left eyelid that was driving me nuts! It was in just the right place where i could see it through my eyelashes, and it was so ugly!

I read the suggestions on here and decided to go for it...i used the old tie off, freeze and snip method. I was a little scared at first because I was afraid i was going to cut my eyelid. I used very sharp eyebrow scissors. I tied some string around it, iced the tag for about 5 minutes(just to be darn good and sure it was numb)and put the scissors around the tag and began to squeeze(ow, I can't do this..)iced it again for about 30 seconds and then got sick of my eyeball being cold,,,snip! Off it came!

To tell you the truth it didn't hurt at all! I did bleed for about 5 minutes but it was very minimal. I can put eye makeup on again! yay!

The worst part of it was

a.)1 very cold eyeball

b.)putting a pair of scissors in the general vicinity of my eyeball yeuuuuuck

c.)the fear of actually doing it

d.)trying to keep my darned eyelashes out of the way so i didn't cut them off!

I thank you for such wonderful advice(and so does my eye) If you have a skin tag...do this...it is quick ....and far less painful than tweezing your eyebrows!

anon27549

The prep and build up to removing skin tags is more painful and unnerving than the actual process....trust me! I had one on my neck that had grown bigger (about 1/2 inch in size) over the past year. People would tell me I had food or something on my neck, so rather than pay the copay to have it done, I decided to do it myself after visiting this site.

I numbed it with ice for about 5 minutes, my husband cleaned toenail clippers with alcohol, wiped my tag clean and then cut it off. It mildly stung for 1 second and it was over. The very thought of him removing it was worse than the actual process, so if you can get past that, you are good to go. I had hardly any blood loss, and it's done. You can't even tell I had anything there.

Thank you!!!!

anon27519

I have a few tags. I've snipped couple. They bled a lot and hurt. I pulled one off. It hurt, bled, and I won't do that again.

I disinfected the area around two on my cheek, tied sewing thread tightly with two knots around the base of them and snipped the ends of the thread close. I left the tags alone. Two days later they started to dry up. Two days later they fell off. No scar, didn't hurt a bit. Just a string tied on your face a few days. They're gone!! That's the way to go..Without question.

anon27487

I was wondering if anyone has had any success with removing an anal skin tag?

I went to my doctor and he told me it was something called a sentinel pile but said it was cosmetic and loads of people had them and didn't seem interested in doing anything to remove it.

So I am trying the tying up method with dental floss, but am too scared to snip the thing off as I am worried that I may have got some normal skin tied up too and don't want to end up bleeding profusely.

The thing is the tying up and leaving it alone method is a little bit painful (nothing horrendous just continual) as it has swollen up but not turned black as I hoped it would when the blood supply was restricted. I'm hoping that I've tied it tight enough but will tie more around it in a day or so if it doesn't start working.

Has anyone had a similar experience or actually snipped their anal skin tag off?

anon27451

OMG I just cut my boyfriend's skin tag off under his arm and I think I'm going to pass out. First I used ice for several minuets to numb it. Second, wiped it with alcohol and dipped the toe nail clippers in alcohol also. The tag was kind of long and the base was wider than I really wanted it to be. When I clamped it down the first time it spread and I thought I wouldn't get it in one clip. I didn't have the courage for 2 clips. I could tell from the first clip i made an indention. He said just do it! I was shaking & I just did it. I really thought i was going to pass out. He said it was just pinchy when I was messing around at first, but the initial cut didn't hurt. It didn't bleed at first but as the ice wore off it bled a little. We put a band aid on it and that was it..... wwhoooooo! This site rocks! Thanks!

anon27415

thanks for the help...i bought the compound w home freeze off system, froze my tag and then cut it off with scissors....it worked...no pain....you can do it too.

hotdogs

Finally it's gone! It's been there so long I wasn't sure what to do with it once i cut it off so i ate it (just kidding).

Ice, alcohol everything including your hands, then I took scissors and held them over the stove and cleaned with alcohol, held the ice in place until numb and then I tried to cut it off with one snip, but it did not work i had to nip at it several times and then it as gone. There was more bleeding than i hoped for. I just cleaned it real good and now there's a piece of sterile cotton with a band aid to hold it in place, I kind of felt like i was going to pass out once i realized it didn't come off in one cut. Anyway it's gone.

anon27248

The easiest way to do this (and this is how I did mine) is to grab a bottle of compressed air (the 'computer duster' kind, you know, to clean your keyboard?) turn it upside down, and aim it at the tag, now this takes some common sense, you don't want to freeze your 'normal' skin, so what i did was lay the little tube on my skin and aim it at the base/middle of the skin tag. Pull the trigger in spurts, your going to feel a little uncomfortable, but once that tag is frozen, and it's very quick, the pain stops. Then just grab some scissors and snip. Very easy.

anon27178

I just removed two from my neck and one from my underarm a few hours ago, after finding this site.

I really can't stress how valuable the icepack was to me. It froze the 2 main skin tags I found and made it seem as if it was only a pinch instead of really, well, cutting off a solid chunk of skin. I froze it for about 8 minutes and then pulled it and settled in my scissors (the only thing on hand). I found it less painful if I tilted my neck in towards the tag so that there was less pulling on the surrounding area. It came off easily and so did the underarm one.

The last one I found only a minute later and was easily cut off with no freezing, and hurt less than the two before.

As of now, I only have two quickly fading red marks on my neck from irritation and pulling of the tag and a slight cut in my underarm where the scissors slipped.

Really, don't bother with fancy medications or "at-home remedies" that cure them in days or weeks, just clean, freeze, snip, clean and go. Thank you guys, this worked wonders :D

anon27054

Ive always had a few skin tags since I was a teenager under my arms. Little ones, but annoying because I notice them and assume other people do as well. So I just started sterilizing a nail cutter and doing it in the shower. Pinches for a moment but I take a long, hot shower and by the time i'm done, it's long stopped bleeding and I'm all warm and relaxed.

anon26972

Hi all,

Tonight after reading the info on this page, I decided to give it a go and remove one of the larger tag under my armpit.

The ice helped, but I didn't tie floss or string, so the blood started to flow and I was half way through my hacking with my toe clippers.

After a few more minutes with the ice cube, it was now or never, as I tried to get more of the tag off, I realized that the pinching sensation was more apparent, so I'll settle for 97% of the tag gone, a lot better than 97% remaining.

Thanks everyone for the info and courage.

cheers, Viper

mordy01

Hey guys, I just cut off my irritating skin tag that was very close to my private parts ( male ), I used the peroxide water, alcohol, ice, dental floss and cut the darn thing off, *zero pain*, trust me I am a wuss when it comes to pain but I am so *happy* it is off my body and now i plan to move on to the ones on my arm pits.

anon26645

Guys my skin tag just fell off!!!! It was about the size of a pea...attached by stalk...located on armpit.

Here's how I did it. I bought some cotton thread (about 1mm thick) from the store, and tied it around the base (make sure you tie it tight as you can, you should experience some minor pinching sensation, but try to get it as tight as you can. If you can put a band-aid on it do so as long as it is not uncomfortable. After about 12-24 hours I pinched it and felt it was working because there was no pain (loss of blood flow). Within 36-40 hours it had turned a brown/black color and was hardening. Now I must warn you, depending on where it is located, there may be some minor pain/discomfort. Since mine was fairly large, it tended to get yanked on a little bit when I would change clothes, etc. However, it was not severe pain. I couldn't really put a bandaid on it because it would hurt because that area is very sensitive. It took about 12 days for mine to fall off.

If your tag is smaller, it should take less time. This method is guaranteed to work if you tie it tight enough, and there is minimal pain!!!

Please make sure you use sterile materials when dealing with it.

anon26620

Thank you to those of you who gave me the nerve....my NP had told me they could remove it, but then I read all your posts!

Mine was down there & it's a sensitive area! Still bleeding a bit & I used a sharp scissors which turned out to be not so sharp! But 3 snips (& I almost gave up) but it's off!

It was such an embarrassing thing. I'm hoping it doesn't come back! Thanks again..it wasn't nearly as painful as I expected!.....

anon26596

easy and painless thank goodness i got that ugly thing off of my inner thigh!

anon26538

I've had a skin tag in my private area for quite some time and it's never been a bother. Until today. While showering, the area by the tag felt sore so I checked, and the tag is now bruised and swollen. Injured somehow - perhaps tight clothing. So now I want to remove this tag but a friend of mine thinks I need to get it checked by a doctor first because of the changes (increase in size and bruising). It's tender since clothes rub in that area easily and I am not crazy about waiting to see a doctor about it.

Has anyone else seen a similar change and is it something that warrants a visit to the doctor....or is everything okay for me to go ahead and do the procedure myself. (actually I'll be asking my friend to do it since I am too squeamish to do it myself). Thanks to any who can contribute their two cents.

anon25816

Wow!!! anon1381, that was *great* advice!! I had a skin tag that was at the tip of my nose for almost two years and have had people in stores, church, and other functions, mention to me that I had "something" on my nose. I always thought that mine was too big to clip off at home, but after reading these articles, I got some reassurance. I hated that skin tag! It was medium size and was kind of red and bled when it got caught on clothing and looked horrible!! I took your advise and had no problems. It only pinched slightly as I slowly clipped it. Thanks!!

anon25748

Lucky Days, yaw! Thank yaw so much for the info and good reports. I had them lil devils all over and with the help of my lovely and talented wife, we excised about 30 of them. We went after the ones most noticeable. I was afraid of cutting on my neck, because I was unsure as to how much I would be bleeding. But most come off with little blood. Now I have one that is deformed on my shoulder. It's about the size of a large walnut. I don't think I shall cut that because surely it will bleed bad. I think the Dr. will have to slice and dice on that. God bless!

anon25704

I just did this with a skin tag in a private area and it was super quick and easy. I think the key is 1) tying with the string, 2) disinfectant (alcohol) and 3) icing the area until you don't feel anything including pain from the ice (this took me about 6-7 minutes with an ice cube directly on the skin tag). To be honest, there was more pain from icing than cutting. I made sure to sterilize the cutter by boiling for several minutes. Then it was basically a quick snip with the cutter; felt a little pinch and I couldn't believe how fast it came off. The hardest part was getting over the fear to just "clip". Then I cleaned the area thoroughly with alcohol; minimal bleeding.

anon25702

Awesome! 10 years I have been living with one under my arm about the size of a green pea. Too cheap to pay Dermatologist $75 when he told me that is how much he told me it would cost to remove it. I have lived with it since. I figured who sees it besides me basically. I am kind of a chicken but iced it for 15 minutes used heavy duty toe nail clippers, sterilized area, pulled it away and snip! It's gone. It was so frozen I did not even feel it nor was there any blood. Thank you all I read for probably 30 minutes before getting the courage. But for all you doubters it is easy!

anon25606

Yea... beware of the ice method... As i tried it on a very narrow and short one, high on my cheek and the ice got stuck and I ended up just pulling it out as I motioned to throw the ice in the trash. Beware of the ice method.

anon25353

I just removed a skin tag from my underarm using the above directions. I used Bactine, dental floss, and nail clippers. There was about 5 minutes of bleeding, but the procedure was painless.

anon25119

Thank you to everyone for your posts. I has one that I was picking at on my neck for years that fell off a few months ago. That was when I realized that these things PROBABLY weren't just moles. The thought of cutting them off freaks me out but I'm definitiely going to be heading out for some Compound W tomorrow!!

anon25058

i wish i had read this again before trying to get rid of this huge, ugly, annoying skin tag under my right armpit!

now granted... it's not the only skin tag i have... but it's the most biggest and annoying one! it started to really bother me--even the slightest rub from my bra against it (when putting my bras on or off) would hurt it or irritate it... and i really wanted to get rid of it.

a few months ago i was googling for more info and self-removal instructions... i read the article on this site as well as on a few others...but when i tried to get rid of the tag last night, i didn't bother to re-read the articles...

so last night i tried to cut it off with nail clippers, with alcohol and peroxide standing by...

but i didn't ice it! and it hurt like hell...and i gave up half way. :( so it bled a lot, and it hurt a lot...and now i'm sitting here with a half-cut skin tag!

i'm going to wait until it heals up a little more, and then try some compound-w, lol...and as for the few other skin tags i have (tww more under the right armpit, one underneath my right breast where my bras rub) i'm going to try the cutting method again... but ice first!

thanks for all the tips and hints guys. :3 not to mention all the courage! lol... it's like a skin tag support group.

anon24993

several weeks ago I had a small skin tag under my arm, one day I decided to pull it off with my thumb nail and index finger, it hurts just a little bit but the bleeding scared me, I didn't know that pressure is required to stop the bleeding, so I just watched it very slowly bleeding for 3 minutes and absorbed blood with some paper towel LOL.

Today I found out this home remedy and followed the instructions exactly to remove another small skin tag on my neck, guess what? it worked perfectly, barely felt any pain and much less bleeding! The idea of numbing with ice before cutting is absolutely outstanding.

anon24763

Wow, I can't believe I did it, but I did! I have had an embarrassing and pretty large skin tag on the skin in my pubic region for years. I have been too embarrassed to make an appointment for that, but after reading everyone's stories here, I got the nerve up to do it. I decided not to mess with the floss, since I figured it would be nearly impossible based on it's location to tie a knot around the wiggly thing with a small piece of thread. So, I thought: disinfect, numb and clip with my sharp little eyebrow cutting scissors. I think my plan would've worked beautifully if not for 1) I didn't ice long enough at first and 2) I kept losing my nerve. So I squeezed with the scissors but it hurt, so I stopped - again and again. It became sort of a nightmare because I started to bleed, a lot. So finally I decided I needed to go for it since I was already injuring myself. I was rotating between gauze to stop the bleeding and more ice to numb it. Finally when it was good and numb, I did it! I was so happy with that god awful thing came off! I gauzed it, then used peroxide and witch hazel on it, then left the gauze on for awhile longer to stop the bleeding. The bleeding has stopped less than 15 mins. after the 'procedure'...I could barely find it to apply the neosporin. It appears that there might be a little nub left, but I'm hoping that will go down once the irritation subsides and it heals, but even if it doesn't, it's 98% better than it was!!

My suggestions are to really really ice it good before clipping so that you don't stop in the middle like I did. Also, I'd like to mention, that I did have a drink or two a couple hours before this so that could've led to bleeding more than I usually would have but then again, it might've contributed to my bravery in even attempting this.

So in the end, I'm a little traumatized by the actual events, but I am going to be SO happy from now on that it's finally, FINALLY GONE!!!! Good luck to everyone! You can do it!

squeemish101

I would like to try the baking soda and castor oil method but I would like to know what it will do to the skin around the tag and whether I should apply the mixture and then cover with a band aid or just let it dry? can anyone help?

squeemish101

OK-I have a large skin tag on my nipple about the size of a pea with a fairly large base (gross, right?!) It makes me feel like a freak! Any special advice considering where it is and its size?

anon24621

i've been getting these a little more frequently and finally got tired of them. first thing i tried was a pair of tweezers and just pulled one off of my arm. i don't recommend that method as it hurt a little bit. second one i used finger nail clippers (unfortunately i didn't think to numb it first) however it still did not really hurt. the last one i have is on my eye lid which is why i came on here looking for suggestions. I really don't want to take the finger nail clippers to my eye lid but I also don't want to wait two weeks for these topical solutions :-/

anon24535

Please use caution when cutting tag. Tag was in arm pit and hard to access. Therefore, I tied floss and pulled away from body prior to cutting (counter to instructions). This made it easier to cut; however, the result was a shockingly large and deep cut. It bled a lot and made me really nervous. I thought I was going to get to meet an ER doc. But with a lot of gauze and pressure, it stopped. It's now healing nicely after lots of cleaning and ointment. Moral: Don't pull floss prior to cut!

anon24529

My OB/GYN won't remove my skin tag located on my right breast because it's not covered under Medicaid here in NYC. it would be a "cosmetic" procedure. I'm scared to clip it. What do I do?

anon24380

I was crying because i was so scared to clip "the tag" i had on my neck but i put ice on it for about 4 minutes and just did it like an hr ago with the nail clippers and didn't even feel a thing. no pinch or anything bc the cold numbed it, so i definitely recommend doing that!

anon24353

Much of my family... father included, has skin tags. I have a few also, one that in recent years grew to the size of a small raisin on my right cheek under my eye..... very annoying. Being a big wimp I put off going to the doctor and never could get the nerve to try everyone's suggestion of cutting it off.

Recently on a trip to visit family, my father mentioned that he's used compound W to remove them with great success.

I decided to give it a try, specifically I used the generic Kroger brand at about 4 dollars a bottle and I'll be darned if in about 4 days it wasn't gone.

This isn't one of the prescribed uses for compound W, but if we are talking "home remedies" I think it fits right in. It worked like a charm and was painless, cheap and I don't think I've seen it mentioned anywhere else.

anon24324

Ive read all your comments but i have one concern... are there any scars left on your skin?, because I don't want to cut it off and have a scar left.

anon23942

im too much of a baby to cut it off. its not that big but still annoying and i hate how people stare at it. no matter what im not cutting the thing off. does the nail POLISH method work? please guys i need your help here

anon23659

Please don't listen to people who say not to bother with the ice, it makes it absolutely painless if you use the ice, I didn't use the floss because it was on my armpit and no one was around that I wanted helping me, so I iced it up for about 2 min put my finger nail on it to the piece of ice to ensure it was numb and it was, I only had toenail clippers which thankfully were new but obviously cleaned them with alcohol anyway, snipped it off no blood because it was still numb cleaned it with soap then peroxide a little band aid and I was good to go. Thanks to this great article and all the post I was able muster the courage to do this!!!

anon23643

another tag (or two) bites the dust!

Thanks! like you all said; it's simple, straight forward, and makes you feel great that they're gone afterward.

if you're hesitating, just think people take bullets out of themselves and you're just nipping some skin. if it bleeds it won't go more than 30 sec. & you can bet on that!

HarleyKat

Well I snipped since my initial comments! That day! LOL I snipped a small tag first, and it was such a cinch, it gave me confidence to go forth with this. But the bigger one was worse...and bled like a mofo! LOL

I did mention this to my dad and his wife, at Christmas time...his wife has been a surgical nurse for like ever. She was aghast that I did this! LOL

anon23374

So glad I read these comments! I had a skin tag (a few minutes ago) and wondered if it was safe to remove it myself. The tag on my inner leg was small, very close to my private areas (male), and it was bothering me. The anticipation of snipping it off was much worse then the actual procedure! I cleaned the area thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap, sterilized my nail clippers (the larger toenail type with a convex shape) using alcohol on clippers and my skin and then one little "snip!" Totally painless (and I don't deal well with pain), a couple of drops of blood. I applied a clean tissue with alcohol for about 30 seconds and there was no more bleeding. If you know you're dealing with a skin tag instead of some other skin abnormality, forget about worrying whether or not this little snip will hurt. It really doesn't! I'll let you know if I die tomorrow : )

anon22928

So mad at myself. For having these on my eyes for years affecting my confidence and self esteem. That the solution was some alcohol and a snip away. Your stories gave me the courage to march in and snip.

I had gotten the same stories from my doctor it was cosmetic and the procedure would not be covered and not worth the price. Thanks all.

anon22877

i just clipped it off with nail clippers right now and everyone is right. its like a small pinch and then its over with. I think it would be easier if someone else did it so i didn't have to look at it. it was more mentally hard than anything

anon22556

Hehehe! Skin tag gone forever! I admit, I'm a wuss, and the idea of snipping and clipping on myself scares the bejeezus out of me. I've tried everything--tea tree oil, Dr. Sholl's freeze stuff, acid treatments from the doc, nothing. This one was between my legs in a very private spot, and it made my sex life hell--I was always so self conscious about it.

So I read all the posts here and got up the nerve to do a little self-surgery. I didn't have alcohol handy, so I used Listerine instead. Ha, hey, whatever works.

I tied off my tag with dental floss and sterilized everything. Wanting to minimize the pain as much as possible, I also held ice over it for a minute, but really, that hurt more than the snipping.

I situated the tag between the blades of my nail clippers and gave them a quick test-squeeze. Ow ow ow!!! No WAY could I do this. Not if the first little squeeze hurt that much. I sat back, and in my head, I replayed all the scenarios in which I have missed out because of this stupid tag. Not worth it. So I closed my eyes, gritted my teeth, and squeezed. Ow! ow.....ow?

That was it. Not worse than a shot or maybe a pinprick. The anticipation of the pain makes it a lot worse. Just relax and do it already. :)

anon22413

I read all of the above and decided to go for just clipping that bugger off...but I chickened out and had my husband do it. One little pinch from a side clipper and it was gone. Bleeding was not an issue at all. I used rubbing alcohol on everything including him before we started. Now he says "I owe him"....Krispy

anon22107

I just went to the bathroom, got out the lighted mirror, took the nail clippers and clipped off about 10 from my arm pit.

To be honest, it hurt less than popping a pimple. I got a good hold with the clippers, looked away (couldn’t watch) and clipped. A 1 second pinch and a little bleeding. I have some in the private areas and I’m getting up the nerve to go there.

anon22000

what a laugh. I've just gone and cut off my boyfriend's one on his neck. Made me feel a bit sick. But I managed it...quite satisfying. Would definitely recommend. Just go for it. Nail clippers and ...well that's it. Gone quickly and forever....

HarleyKat

By the way...I totally disagree with the method of strictly tying off...ewww! Of course it is going to hurt! Snip that bastard off! LOL When I attempted this but chickened out...the tying part hurt...lol...and no way I would just want to suffocate the thing!

HarleyKat

I am SO grateful to find this site! I had several skin tags removed by my Dr., several years ago...and he sent them for biopsy so that the insurance company would pay for their removal since they were "suspicious." LOL My current Dr will not do this, and I would have to pay for their removal because it is considered cosmetic! Bah! Cosmetic, my butt...they get pulled on by jewelry, sweaters, etc.!!

I did attempt to do this already...figured I would just mock what my Doc did. LOL Thing is, he gave them all a little shot of pain killer, prior to snipping! He also used a syptic pencil of sorts, for possible bleeding. Anyhoot...I FINALLY got a thread tied around it...whatta task!...and then chickened out. My roommate freaked too, so that kind of made me freak more! LOL But after reading all this here, and other sites...am going to remove it today! :O) I only have one that bothers me this time...they seem to stay gone for years, then resurface.

Oh my goodness! Thank you all so much for helping me get rid of this disgusting bit of dangly skin that's been hanging on my neck for YEARS!

I followed the nurse's protocol to remove two tags on my neck, one small and one medium. The medium one would constantly get stuck in my necklaces and always felt irritated. Recently it seemed like the little one was getting larger.

The most painful part for me was pulling on the tag with the thread, to get the clippers down close to the root. I was SKEEVED about actually using the clippers but I promise it did NOT hurt...a little pinch and that bugger was off! It did bleed for a bout 5 minutes, I kept an alcohol dipped cotton ball pressed against it for 5 minutes, then applied tea tree oil and it stopped. I can't believe my neck is smooth again!

I think the more narrow the "stem" of the tag, the easier and cleaner the clip will be. I have two larger tags on my abdomen and groin that I plan to tie off with string and see how they do.

I love the internet!

anon21213

hello, i followed the advice on here and removed 3 skintags from my eyelids, ice didn't help much probably more painful than the clippers. The biggest problem i had was seeing what i was doing due to my eye watering. But i did it and very little bleeding at all, i also wish i had found this site ages ago because they had annoyed me for years.

anon21114

i tied mine with string 5 days ago and it hurts and is swollen....what should i do?

anon20519

Thanks for the info, I had very small one on my eye lid. I used ice, alcohol, snipped it off. Didn't hardly bleed, I've had worse cuts on my fingers. Nothing to it.

anon20255

I knew I was going to get these buggars because my mom and grandma have them. So just as I saw these tags starting to form around my neck, before they got noticeable at all, I put a popular brand of facewash on a brand new dual sided dish sponge on the rough side. I only used a small part of the pad and moved in small circles and was pretty gentle. I also only rubbed about 10 seconds on each tag and followed up with facial toner and a very well known acne medicated lotion. Within 5 treatments they're all gone and my neck is smooth and still no discoloration.

anon20123

I have had several skin tags for years under my arms and in other private areas. One in my private area was pretty large about the size of a Lima Bean so I tied it off tightly with thread and it itched and got swollen and bled and drained for about a week or so and then it turned black and just fell off.. Now it is all healed and no other problems since.. After it fell off I did put some Neosporin on it and covered it with a band aid.. I'm glad I did this because it irritated me soooo much.. I am now trying this method with the smaller tags under my arms..

anon19982

This morning I removed a skin tag on my eyelid, following the instructions provided by all these great folks. Didn't bother with ice. Peroxide on the tag. Instruments in 95% IsoPropyl Alcohol. Unwaxed floss. First I pulled the tag out some using thumb and index finger, rolling it left-right to make it stick out. Then I swiftly applied a loop of the floss, pulled quite tightly. When I was sure I had the majority of the tag in the loop (I didn't get 100% of it) I snipped off the tag *above* the floss using cuticle snips (straight-edged snips); this step required some nerve, but I took courage from the posters here and snipped that sucker off. It didn't hurt at all! Just some pressure and then the unsightly carbuncle was gone! More peroxide, then dabbed with a tissue for few mins until the blood started clotting -- hardly any blood at all. Anti-bacterial ointment, and I'm good to go. Woohoo! Thanks all!

anon19922

Alcohol, ice and sharp scissors did the trick for me. I used a 2006 California Merlot, but any bottle in the wine cellar should work fine.

anon19247

I previously posted I would try the Freeze Away product on my skin tag. it worked OK on the first but honestly took a while for it to fall off and left a discoloration mark on my neck. For the 2nd skin tag i just decided to say what the hell and use nail clippers that were sterilized. I did not do any tying as my skin tag is not that big. Although it hurt a bit I think cutting it off with nail clippers was faster and more effective.

anon19107

I had a skin tag on my eye lid for many years. I didn't think anything of it at first but it became more noticeable and I was too chicken to just cut it off. I read about tying a string around it and was very skeptical that it would work. My wife tied some sewing thread around it. It seemed to shrivel a bit but I had no sensation that anything was happening. Then on Friday, she tied another string on tighter than the first. It was slightly uncomfortable and itched like crazy and was fairly sensitive but after 2 days, my wife noticed it had already fallen off. I could not believe how well it worked and it saved us a copay at the doctors office.

anon18964

I just cut off like 6 or 7 little ones from the sides of my neck. It hurt a little bit but after it comes off it's not bad. A couple of them are still bleeding though and it's kind of making me angry but whatever. Just make sure to sterilize your utensils with rubbing alcohol and go to town.

anon18962

Thanks so much! I got the courage to remove 8, yes 8 skin tags, all but 2 I'd had for years, I can't believe they're gone, I had one on my upper ab, one under my arm and the rest in my neck region...So glad to find this site!

anon18530

I've been reading over and over on how to do it, but was afraid of bleeding.

I think to minimize pain, you want to make sure you are just cutting the tag, and not your actual skin.

Bleeding was minimal, pain was minimal. Wow So glad i finally did it!!!!!!

anon18355

1. 3-4 months ago I went to the docs to have skin tags looked @ to see if I can get them removed, 1 under my left armpit that I can recall showing my mom when I didn't even have armpit hair! One on my neck that has been there since high school. I Setup an appointment to get them taken off and My schedule didn't allow it so I canceled and never rescheduled.

2. My 3 yo Daughter thinks its hilarious to pull/play with the one on my neck and it wigs me out that she's going to pull it off and Im going to bleed to death. Well Apparently that is the biggest wives tale of them all! You don't bleed to death because there is no blood flow to the tags.

3. I found this site not even knowing why I searched for it and laughed @ all the comments, A good laugh though.. So now here's mine to add to bunch.

I wiped the areas down with rubbing alcohol, dipped the tiny nose hair trimmers ($12.00 @ WalMart spring loaded) in alcohol too. Prepared tissue paper to stop any bleeding. Couldn't find any String, Thread or Dental Floss (we use puckers) So myself being the Macguyver that I am used an old sock, Yes the elastic from the tube sock. I think its best to tie a string around the tag first then pull it away from your body, This way you get it all and a cleaner cut on the first attempt, I don't think you want to be cutting away @ the same area as it would definitely cause irritation.

OK So I go for the one on the neck first.... Tie-Pull- Cut bam it sticks to the cutters and I didn't even think I got it but I did. It was a slight pinch. Pain scale: Finger hang nail=10 Pinch from the tag= .5

Hardly felt anything @ all. What was even better is it didn't bleed, I was kind of anticipating the whole bleeding drama, Not a single drop!

Now Im like hey this is cool, that nasty lil bugger is Finally gone! So time for the underarm one, repeated the steps and bam this one fell hard, it was a doozer. A lil bit of blood attempted to come out but that was it. By this time Im looking for more, and I remember that my wife was scratching my back before we went to bed and she scratched hard @ the side of my ribcage.. What do you know, it was another baby skin tag. I Didn't even think twice about cutting it off.

Now Im glad to say they're gone. Woo Hoo, "I just saved a Ton of money on my Health Insurance!"

My tip to everyone out there contemplating cutting them off, If you're in decent health and have good hygiene I say go for it but if you have previous skin conditions and or have roaches crawling around your house and on your scissors I say STOP! Otherwise you don't need to pay a doctor tons of money for things you can do @ home.

I have removed several myself. I did not ice them at all. One bled a bit but it didn't really hurt much. It just felt like a pinch. I just used finger nail clippers. Wait till it's big enough to grab and pull on it. When you have it pulled out cut as close to the base as possible.

anon18065

I tend to get them in my neck area. I don't use scissors, clippers or dental floss to get rid of them. I just take my finger and rub it on top of the tag in a circular motion, I do this for about 2 minutes alternating the motion back and forth... then I reverse the circling and pretty soon I can tell it's ready to go, then I just take my tweezers and pull it off. Very simple. Minimal bleeding, minimal pain. Of course I've only done this on very small ones. I had a larger one on my inner thigh that I just 'twisted' back and forth in the same manner as the other ones and that one I did clip off with nail clippers.

anon18000

Great forum. I am 30 and never had a skin tag before. Suddenly out of nowhere 2 have popped up in my neck area and 1 in my armpit. I thought they were warts or moles and had no idea what a skin tag was until doing research online.

I am a little squeamish with scissors/clippers but have decided to try the Dr. Scholl Freeze product. It seems some people have had success using it with skin tags although the product is designed to get rid of warts. I'm hoping this is an easy and pain free solution and will post any positive or negative results to let you guys know!

anon17743

I read all the comments, and decided to just go for it. I had a medium sized one on my neck- I sterilized my nail clippers and pulled it off. It bled quite a lot, but I've gotten it under control.

anon17671

i found this site after wondering for like 1 year how to get rid of it because i didn't feel comfortable going to the doctors as it was near to my private area!

however after reading this i decided i would freeze the skin tag and then grab it with tweezers and chop it off as it was fairly small.

the pain wasn't too bad it just felt like a pinch i was expecting a lot more pain! it bled quiet a lot but it is fine now im glad i read this page

thanks x

anon17509

I just removed a skin tag using thread. Yesterday I tied a piece of thread around the base of my skin tag. You have to tie it really tight (it pinches for a few minutes then you don't feel it any more.) and make sure its knotted so it doesn't come loose. Then I slapped a bandaid over it so no one would try and rip the string off thinking it was lint or something. This morning the skin tag was all black and hard and I was kind of grossed out and a little worried. I started reading this post and thought, oh well, I'll give it one more try and then go to the doctor tomorrow. I tied another piece of thread on top of the one that was already around the skin tag. But I just kept tightening it waiting for that pinched feeling- the skin tag popped right off. I was like a scab. No bleeding. I put on some antibiotic cream and another bandaid just to be safe. But I'm definitely eye-balling this other skin tag now...I highly recommend this method for the squeamish and the chicken.

anon17246

I just read the article and the post and THANK YOU. I've had a skin tag in my groin area for more than 5 years and I didn't wear swimsuits because it would show but i just sterilized clippers and snipped it off. It hurt slightly but it is gone. Yeah, thanks.

anon17223

I tried freezing by a dermatologist, all this did was cause them to get bigger. Then the dermatologist told me to tie it off, NOT, I repeat, NOT a good idea. It swelled up but did not turn black. They said tie it tighter and cut it when it turns purple/black. I tied it tighter, it turned purple, tried to cut it and it hurt like hell (even frozen with ice). The derm said to leave it tied and it would die off. No such thing, it stayed purple on top and black on the bottom, stayed swollen but NEVER came off and it hurt. I had to have a shot of lydocaine and have them cut off. Unless you like pain, leave it alone!

anon17194

Used the nail clipper method; worked great on a private area. Make sure to sterilize the clippers. Use ice as a numbing agent. I bled for about 10 minutes but healed within 24hrs. Thanks for the help!

anon17188

I had one on the back of my neck. My doctor said it was a skin tag and told me about the string trick. He even said he twisted one off his arm once. He more or less played it off as being no big deal. I figured I'd give it a shot. Since it was on the back of my neck, I couldn't tie a tight knot after a frustrating hour of trying. I got so annoyed I decided to cut it off with a clean, new razor blade. That ended up being a lot trickier than expected and I more or less hacked away at it. I finally used cuticle cutters to get the last of it. At this point I'm thinking it won't look too great and I'm hoping I don't get an infection. Was it very painful? No, because I iced it beforehand. Should I have insisted my doctor take care of it, probably. It's too late now. My advice is to only take one of these buggers on if it's very small and you or someone else can easily work on it.

anon17135

I have a skin tag on my eye lid as well. Is there any danger in removing one from there?

anon17100

The more I read your comments on the article, the more scared I got about actually going ahead with cutting my skin tag off myself. I am the sort of person who makes a big deal out of pain lol. I decided, last night, to just go ahead and do it.

My skin tag was too small and in an awkward place to be able to tie anything around it, so I just pulled it taught instead. I used small, sharp nail scissors to cut it off. I think the first time it didn't come off but I just snipped at it again. I'm not sure I got the whole thing, but I'm quite prepared to give it another go if it grows back. There was hardly any bleeding and the pain was practically non existent.... you've probably hurt it more by fiddling around with it before hand.

Good luck guys, it really doesn't hurt I promise, just remember to ice it before (that hurts more for sure).

anon17085

I've been cutting small skin tags off my neck and sometimes face for years. The trick is to wait until they are big enough to cut, but still pretty small, and just cut as close to the base as possible. I've never heard about ice or dental floss -- I've just used my cuticle or swiss army knife scissors (both are the sharpest and most precise scissors I own). Sterilize both skin and scissors with alcohol, position scissors and snip! Often a fair amount of blood, but really pretty simple. And they are gone. Yay!

However, my boyfriend has some rather large skin tags under his arms....longer and pinker and more meaty. Last night he asked if I would cut them off for him. Ack! This makes me *very* squeamish, since I know how much pain or discomfort I can take but I'm not "in" his skin so I don't know how much I am hurting him. The ice idea seems good. Any suggestions to minimize discomfort when cutting off someone *else's* skin tags? Thanks everyone!

anon17076

I had a tag on an embarrassing area.. my bikini line area. I used cuticle cutters and a lot of alcohol and ice. OMG it hurt still. and it was harder than I expected to remove it. the base was thicker than it looked. but I finally removed it and put a tissue over it. it was bleeding for awhile but eventually healed. but I think I got an infection or something. the area where I cut it. there is now a little bump. kind of like when I get an ingrown hair. yuck. but its been 3 weeks and it's still there! what should I do?

pj64

I have been trying to get the courage up for months to cut mine off. My husband had one in a sensitive area that was irritating him and I snipped it off for him. It was no big deal, so that gave me the courage I needed to do my own. I removed about eight of them from my neck by snipping them off with cuticle scissors. I used the alcohol, cuticle scissor, neosporin method..only used ice on the first one but not the rest. It was no big deal and I'm a baby when it comes to pain. I wish I did it years ago. I can't believe I lived with those nasty things for so long.

anon16938

I see a world of bad advice here. If you have insurance, go see the dermatologist. My spouse has tried the floss method and now what we are faced with is a raging infection. Now we have to go to the doctor.

anon16894

I had a few skin tags all over my body most were on my neck. I cut off the ones on my neck no problem. I had two other big ones though, on my thigh and back. I cut them both off with those small metal scissors you use in bathrooms after sterilizing them. The one on my thigh bled for a little while after I cut it off but it wasn't a big deal. The one on my back though was a nightmare. Not only did I have trouble reaching behind myself with the scissors but it bled for a really long time afterwards. I had to use gauze wrap to stop the bleeding and had to change the bandage a couple of times before it finally stopped bleeding.

anon16859

I've had several (maybe 12) skin tags around my neck. Periodically one gets irritated or yanked off by a necklace or irritated by the seat belt creeping up. This last time I got fed up and looked online, and found this article. I must it admit it made me a little squeamish. All the comments gave me confidence and I went out and bought a new pair of cuticle scissors.

I soaked the scissors in alcohol, applied ice to the tags, clean the area with alcohol and snipped them off. I missed a few times and cut a couple in half before getting them all. The whole tie dental floss idea was way too much for me, but this didn't really hurt. There was some bleeding, but after re-cleaning I put on some ointment and a bandaid.

It's been about 2 hours now, and I can feel where they were, like a scratch, but no biggie. Thanks so much!

anon16846

Let me add a huge thanks to all that have posted here. I, too, had an inner thigh tag that had grown fairly large and was starting to chafe painfully. Gods be praised for Google.

I followed the "ice, clean with alcohol, snip with sterilized scissors, apply pressure with some sterile gauze, apply a small amount of Neosporin and cover with a Band-Aid" route.

I suspect that the most painful part of this procedure will be removing the Band-Aid ;-) Best to all!

anon16694

I had a skin tag on my inner thigh for years, I even had plans with my doctor to have it removed. Well, yesterday I sat here trying to figure out how to get rid of it, I ended up here, reading all these comments and suggestions. I finally got up the courage to try it, I chickened out about three times after I tied it, then I iced it, and especially after I put the toe nail clippers on, I sat with pressure on it for a few minutes and before I knew it, it had come off, minimal pain. But I did have a lot of blood, I didn't think I would ever stop bleeding, about two hours later it actually stopped completely. I also had to work. I work at a hospital so I went in and told a nurse what I did. She reassured me that sometimes they will bleed a decent amount, so if this happens don't freak out just keep pressue on it, keep it clean and covered and don't use peroxide to clean it, just alcohol and neosporin. I just wanted to offer more experience and advice and to let everyone know that even though I freaked out it really was worth it. Thank you all very much.

JoeSixpack

It's been about 8 weeks since the successful removal of 3 skin tags. Apparently I did not get the base of one of them as it has grown back! (Ugh!) No worries though, I'll tie, ice and clip it off at the base this time.

My significant other has coffee colored skin tags. This concerns me as to whether or not they're melanomas and not skin tags. Does anyone know of a way to self-diagnose the difference?

lebaby666

My skin tags have been bothering me for years. I am blond, so my hair follicles are not coarse and i have beautiful underarms, except for a couple of skin tags, plus one about an inch the the right of a very private area. So I was always afraid to show off my armpits, but after I read these comments I worked up the courage to snip them and it was so easy and fast, and relatively painless, (except for the one down south, which was a little bigger and bled a fair amount. I am so happy and feel so liberated, and I know this sounds weird, but by the last one on my armpit, I wished I had more I could snip because it felt soooo good to get rid of them. I didn't even tie them with floss, I just snipped. But make sure everything is sanitary and use neosporin afterward and stick a band aid on them and you will feel GREAT. I recommend this to anyone and everyone who is self conscious about their skin tags!

anon15785

I had a skin tag in a very 'sensitive' area that recently popped up over the last 3 months. So I tried the thread method. I took a piece of sewing thread, tied it tightly around the bottom of the tag, and presto! 2 days later it fell off with no pain, and no one knew what I was up to!

anon15705

I found it easier to cut if you pull the tag away from your skin with the dental floss and cut underneath the floss. This gets closer to your skin at the skinniest part of the tag and makes it easier to cut.

anon15616

HI. I have a large skin tag that is dark in color on my abdomen. I had heard about the dental floss method before but been scared to try it. Unfortunately I had heard a different version. "tie the floss around the base tightly & it will eventually fall of like a boxers tail w/no bleeding." Well, obviously this is not what's being recommended here! Today is Weds & I have had a string around it since Mon night! It's been pretty uncomfortable but appears to be dying. Am I putting myself @ risk? Should I cut it now or go to a doctor? After reading this I'm a little concerned. I don't know how often this site is updated or checked on but if somebody could let me know I'd appreciate it!!!

HI, I have been reading everyone's comments and I'm so glad I found this forum. My husband has a few skin tags that have really been bothering him and I was looking for a Dr. office that would remove them and after calling a few I was blown away at the cost!!!! So I looked up "how to remove skin tags." I'm going to try as soon as we get home tonight. I also have one under my armpit that i've had since childhood and it has grown over the years I'm now 30 so I will be attacking that monster as well :) I'm so excited!! I'll keep you posted on the outcome. Thx!!

anon15291

I had to read every post before I was brave enough to try this. It worked great!!! A little pinch but nothing I couldn't handle. I'm a wimp too. I removed four tags - two bleed a bit and two didn't bleed at all. So get off of the computer and go remove those skin tags right now, for pete's sake! You will be glad you did!

anon15233

20 seconds of ice and sterile snips and a 1cm tag under my arm was history. Hurt like a light pin prick, little blood, no problem. Should have done it 15 years ago!

anon15157

to those of you who wonder whether that process can work for anal skin tags: my proctologist told me i had a skin tag on my anus, but it was a hemorrhoid. do not try to tie off a hemorrhoid! no matter how small. the blood wants to get in there, and you will just exacerbate the situation. and then your doctor will yell at you...it's not nice. ouch.

Gwindollin

I wish I would have found this website sooner. I did go to the doctor yesterday and had 4 skin tags removed. She gave me 3 shots that hurt like I was in a torture camp. Then she cut the tags off and applied a silver substance to stop the bleeding. Well the silver substance turned black in each hole..... yes I said hole. When she cut the skin tags off she took a little bit more than the tag and it has left divots in my skin!!! Looks terrible and is very painful. I wish I would have found your advice and done the method listed instead of going to the doctor who butchered and damaged the delicate skin!!! I have 2 more tags in different areas that I will remove myself!!! Thank you for this webpage...for my future reference :)

After years of being embarrassed about my armpit, I finally asked my friend to help me cut them. In the past I bought Dermatend online but that didn't do anything but irritate my armpit and probably permanently damaged it. My friend told me about the tying and I finally tried it but didn't get at the root so it got swollen and started bleeding out a nasty liquid that smelled bad. One of my friends volunteered to cut it for me so I bought a new pair of tiny and very sharp scissors and it was painless and even though I bled a lot, I'm so happy it is gone! My skin tags were pretty big about the size of a lady bug? I'm glad to be rid of them so I can wear sleeveless shirts!

1. Don't tie if you don't get at the root of the tag!

2. Cutting is very painless, don't fret.

3. Sterilize your scissors!

4. Ice helps a ton.

anon14907

OK it is gone a skin tag not small but not huge either near the groin. I tried the dental floss routine for a few days but it kept coming off and was uncomfortable. Finally, after reading the posts I followed the nurses procedures. I am sure I wouldn't have thought to clean and follow the protocol if I had not read that post. I retied dental floss and kept it taunt with tweezers and used my small German nail clippers. I was scared but determined. It worked without any pain. The ice applied first was helpful. Noticed the bit of tail to the tag was still there and so I sniped it again. Virtually no blood and painless like popping a pimple really. I finished it off with peroxide and a bit of septic powder we keep for the dogs when we cut their nails. A band aid wasn't necessary but I put it on just to keep myself from checking it out. Thanks for all the posts.

fuready

One more thing....a nice stiff rum and coke helped both before and after the procedure!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!! anon1381 a.k.a. nurse. Finally built up the courage to use sterilized nail clippers to remove a rather large skin tag from my eyelid. Pressed ice on it for about 20 seconds then slid the clippers over the tag..stretched the eyelid with tag inside of the clippers and snip........gone! Very little pain or blood (and I'm a big wimp). Cleansed area with hydrogen peroxide afterwards. Looks great..think I'm good to go! Will keep you posted.

I have had numerous skin tags removed by dermatologists in the past, but I have one that was underneath my right eye that I kept playing with, so I decided to see if I could remove it myself this time. I managed to snip a tiny bit of it off without any pain or bleeding, but upon attempting to get the rest of it, I hesitated when I felt a bit of pain. Upon doing further research, I discovered on another site that vinegar removes skin tags, so I decided to give it a shot. I dipped a cotton swab in a small amount of vinegar and held it to the skin tag for a minute or two. I noticed that it began to turn lighter in color. After a few more minutes, I began to rotate tag with the swab and noticed that it appeared to be peeling away layer by layer and getting smaller and smaller. Within 10 minutes, there was a small amount of transparent skin remaining, which I snipped off without any pain or bleeding. I could not believe it! It disappeared right before my eyes! There was only a bit of redness surrounded by a thin, white ring in the area where the tag was located. With another cotton swab, I applied a tiny bit of tea tree oil and within 10 minutes, the white ring and redness were gone. You can't even tell where the tag was. I never would have thought that vinegar would remove it. I just thought I'd pass this along to anyone who might be afraid to snip. Just be mindful that if you have sensitive skin, the vinegar and/or tea tree oil may cause some redness and/or slight irritation. Good luck!

anon14540

I am amazed as the suggestions about the dental floss, rubbing alcohol, ice, and nail clippers worked like a charm! I cannot hardly believe that this tag that has bothered me for years is finally off. I've begun exercising more and it was right under my right breast. I have noticed that it would rub against my sports bra and be raw and red as a result. I have to add that for me it was completely painless and blood free. I have put a bandage on it but anticipate no problems at all. Thanks so much for addressing this issue!

anon14363

anon1381. thank you. worked fine.

anon14294

Thanks all of you for the support and encouragement your words have provided. I have suffered with skin tags in the groin region for years. After reading your posts, I decided to just do it...to the biggest one anyway..3 more to go. I didn't need ice or to tie it. I just sterilized the location and nail clipper and clip..clip..didn't hurt at all. Thanks again!!!!

JoeSixpack

Day 3 since tying off the larger of the 2 skin tags I was dealing with. Each day, I'd tighten the sterilized 8 lb monofilament. This morning, I rubbed ice on the tag for 2 minutes, pulled it tight with sterilized tweezers, and snipped it off with sterilized toe clippers.

Piece of cake! And this is being told to you from someone who has a great fear of needles. (Well, OK there were no needled involved... call me "chicken) The bottom line is this: This procedure works!

As far as the person asking if this can be done on the eyelid, I see no reason to be overly concerned about it.

I want to add my thanks and reassure people that the anticipation is SO much worse then the act itself.

Over the last year I've developed a number of skin tags in various places. 2 of the spots have bothered me more then the others, my inner thigh and my armpit.

My first removal was one of those "accidental" removals. The tag on my inner thigh was pretty large and was getting irritated from me wearing jeans and walking a lot, so I put a bandaid on tightly before one trip out because I knew we would be walking for hours that day. The next morning I woke up to take my shower and when I removed the band aid, the skin tag was no more.

My under arm skin tag is also in an annoying place, it is right where my bra meets my inner armpit and it is *constantly* being irritated by that. I've read more and more "do it yourself" ways and I knew that I would be able to snip it off but...

I'm a phlebotomist, I'm not squeamish... usually. There is something entirely different about doing things to yourself. I had to use scissors because my nail clippers are too curved and it would be too awkward of an angle. I started reading more of the posts on this thread and decided to just do it, I had my sewing thread nearby and I tied the tag off.

Then chickened out again and kept reading.

Said "screw this! I'm being a baby" out loud to myself and went to the kitchen for an ice pack (bag of frozen corn I usually use on my sore knee). I put the ice pack under my arm and walked to the bathroom where my scissors were soaking in alcohol, then cleaned everything and chickened out another minute then finally pulled and snipped.

Seriously, the chickening out and anticipation wasted more time then it was worth. I actually had more pain from the ice touching my skin! Yes, a little bit of blood, but I put gauze on it and have my arm tight to my side while I type this. To sum it up, this is my advice.

1. Use alcohol to clean the area and cutting utensil

2. Use ice to lessen the pain (waaaay more effective then I thought it would be)

3. Do NOT over-think this! It will just make you more nervous.

4. Clip/snip in a quick motion.

5. Wipe it down with alcohol when done (or peroxide) and keep a bit of pressure on it.

Thank you all very much for making me finally decide to do this. Now to take care of the other ones...

I have a small one under my eye and a few small ones on my neck. Really want to get rid of the one under my eye and would like to do the Nurse's instructions from above, however I am afraid it will leave a scar. Anyone have a problem with scarring?

JoeSixpack

Got a new method! I've had a pesky skin tag under my armpit for a couple weeks. After reading the instructions on self-removal, I took 12" of 8 lb test monofilament fishing line (unused, of course) and soaked it in alcohol. I made a knot leaving a 3-4" loop so my girlfriend could pull the tag with tweezers to assure I tied it at its base. Once I tied the line tight, it snipped the skin tag right off! No bleeding, less pain than a pin prick.

A 2nd skin tag was not as cooperative as the first, but it's now tied with the same type of "sterilized" fishing line and will without a doubt fall off in a matter of days.

anon14002

Does anyone have a treatment method for doing this for skin tags on the eyelid? I have a small one on my eyelid buy am reluctant to try snipping on such a delicate area of the body.

As anon12977 said, I've had one on my armpit which fell off. I think this was a combination of a hair wrapping around it and cutting off blood supply also using one of those mineral salt deodorants.

anon13964

Woo hoo !! im sooo glad i read this i applied ice to my chin where i had my skin tag tied it off w/floss and toe nail clipped the thing rite off easy and painless...THANKS!

anon13924

wow, I had a rather large tag on my underarm and did exactly as the nurse said, only I needed to tie it off twice to get all of it. I tried to get as close to the base as i could, but while pulling on the thread to stretch it out, I realized I needed another piece of thread to cut off blood flow. After numbing it with ice and rubbing alcohol on the surrounding area and clippers, I clipped it right off with no pain. It was actually more uncomfortable tying it than cutting it off and even that did not hurt. just glad to get rid of it. I could not tie it off myself with one hand so I had to talk a friend into helping.

Jualsy

I have two on my neck. I eased them out with tweezers then snipped at them with scissors. but neither one of them cut off.....so I put a plaster on with Vitamin E, and today i took it off and they are still as large as life!! I guess I need sharper scissors!!! The nail clippers scare me!!!

Using the tweezers made things easier to get at them though....I'll have to try again!! YUK!!!

anon13847

Wow! I've had this skin tag for years. It is located between by underarm and breast and so I became very self-conscious about wearing tank tops because it often showed or caught on my clothes. I had talked to a nurse friend and she told me it was safe to do at home if careful. I was scared, but after reading these comments I decided to do it. I did it a few minutes ago!! If I can do it anyone can. I followed the instructions the nurse above suggested and it was quick and easy. Thanks

anon13647

I had one in my inner thigh and I just twisted it until it fell off, it really just fell off and wasn't painful at all, I mean there was a small pinch when I started twisting, but after that nothing. It's really cool I was just watching tv and thought hey let me see if I can stop the blood flow by twisting it and next thing I know 5 mins later it popped off.

swedeville1

Well I did it last night. I followed the directions from our knowledgeable nurse above. At first I used the dental floss and cuticle scissor method with the help of my wife. The pain was mostly non-existent (a slight pinch, actually the tying of the floss was a bigger irritant than the cutting was!!!) After I realized that it didn't hurt I had my wife switch over to the tweezer grab and cuticle scissor cut method. This was much faster and easier for her to do. when it was all said and done I had her cut off 25 tags located around my neck and chest area. Took about 45 min due to the prep work for each area. Im pretty excited about having them off I feel nice and smooth now. I would highly suggest you do this yourself. Just do it! you won't regret it.

Use a Vitamin E capsule squeezed onto the plaster afterwards and you will find the healing will leave no scar..amazing stuff! I am going to try the removal process tonight.....aaaaaaaagh!!! I want them gone more than I am afraid of doing it though, so I am going to do it! Thanks for all the encouragement and testimonials!!

anon12997

( this is weird ) i had accidentally gotten a string caught around one of my skin tags on my armpit without me knowing and it had cut the circulation off of the skin tag. after three days without me realizing it had fallen off! It was freaky and I am starting to question... should I do that with my other skin tag? It was totally painless.

Help me!

anon12840

I was the one who asked if anyone had success with baking soda and castor oil. I have had a heck of a time. I have been applying the mixture frequently to one small site that happens to be in the armpit area. My skin tags when from small and painless, to swelling to approximately 4x the size and so red and sore it hurt to move my arm. Being female and wearing a bra is about more than I can handle. It is beyond discomfort. I was wondering if anyone had used the baking soda/castor oil method and if this reaction is normal. I think I am just going to snip them off if it doesn't get better, but now that they have grown so big in such a short time, I am worried about bleeding... any advice?

anon12589

so far no one has had success with the castor oil and baking soda method???

anon12586

Thx much to the nurse who gave a detailed plan :)

I've accidentally shaved one off near my underarms and surprisingly, the pain and bleeding was minimal. The tag did come back and I have yet to remove it, accidental or otherwise. I've since grown a few more so I'll likely be setting up a home surgery suite in the next few days. Such annoying things, these skin tags!

anon12573

Writing from experience, I would try the self-treatment method folks, especially after all the positive comments posted here.

I went through the excise procedure in a doctor's office this morning and dearly wish I had found this site before I went. I was given Lydocaine under EACH skin tag supposedly to ease the pain. The needle for the lydacaine shots probably hurt more than just getting the skin tags cut-off?!?! She then cut off each skin tag and then cauterized the area where each skin tag had been. That hurt also!

I still have some skin tags under my arms. I think I will have my wife help me do the self-treatment before I spend the time and money to go through the process in the doctor's office. It certainly couldn't hurt more than the shots and the cauterizing. And it will save some money.

anon12466

I had a lot of skin tags along my cheek bones for years and always wanted to get rid of them. I took the nurse's advice and tied a string around them real tight (ran out of floss) and clipped them off with the nail clipper. I was nervous at first, but after I removed the first one, I was so excited, I couldn't wait to remove the rest. It was like a little pinch, no pain and only a dot of blood and no blood on some of them. I had been contemplating going to the doctor for years, but I was scared and I knew the cost. If I did it you can too.

itsmeagain

I have had poison ivy on my throat and neck. The worst part is having skin tags all around the area (8-10 of them)and it just freaks me out to rub the area with cream or whatever and brush over these things. I think a couple of them on my throat are so tiny I may not be able to get the floss around them. But I want them gone!! They are just disgusting.

I am curious if it would be easier and just as quick and painless to use a straight edge razor..... the sharpest ever... If I can get up the nerve to do it, I'll let you know....

anon12318

thank you to everyone for your posts...i've had a tag for ages down below and it's been upsetting me - i've even been and had it checked out a couple of times by various drs and they've all just reassured me it's a skin tag and i should leave it alone - but due to it's location it has been really upsetting me.

Anyway, I'm far too chicken to actually snip it off with clippers or scissors - i went out last night and was terrified it'd bleed lots or be really sore, but i managed to tightly tie a piece of dental floss around it yesterday afternoon, by this morning it's already shrunk and turned dark...fingers crossed it'll fall off soon.

Thank you to everybody. Really thank you :)

anon12202

Success. The pesky tag came off today. I used the dental floss tie off method, I didn't tie it off tightly enough at first because the thing tripled in size and "weeped" for several days. So, I retied it really tightly. It turned dark, shrunk and fell off after 2 days.

Thanks!!

anon12181

I'm 4 months pregnant and have 2 skin tags in my belly button and want them out before my belly button pops out!!! But the skin tags are dark, and look like ticks! I don't know if they are moles or what. Would it still be safe to remove it myself??? The dermatologist says he's uncomfortable injecting me with a local anesthetic, but my ob says it's safe. Should I make another appointment and tell the dermatologist we have the green light, and pay all that money? Or do it myself??

TheCrimson

I recently removed two skin tags, using the dental floss method. I tied dental floss around the skin flap and number the area for 30 seconds or so with an ice pack and then clipped off the tag with a pair of professional cuticle clippers and it came off after a few nips or so. It was painless and it did bleed some, the tag that was larger bled more, in fact the smaller one hardly bled at all. Also no scarring whatsoever. I recommend doing the at home method, in fact my mom who is a nurse says it's a procedure that's safe and effective done at home, no need paying 225.00 or so to have a doctor do it, it's a waste of money & time.

anon11821

This is great information. BUT... before I found this site (in fact, a couple of years ago) I just got up the nerve to cut one off in my armpit. I used a pair of cuticle scissors and was amazed at how TOUGH it was. And it "stung". All said, though, I'm glad I'm rid of it.

So why am I reading about them now? I have about ten in the "down under" place and I don't look forward to dealing with them but like others here, one in particular is beginning to abrade my legs. Thanks.

anon11725

I have tied one of my anal skin tag tonight. The other one will be impossible to do I think. Within a few hours it has gone black. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is normal and whether I just need to persist with it. It is pretty painful now. I couldn't get it right at the root for some reason so do you think, when the end of it comes back I am still going to be left with a smaller tag? Even if I wanted to get the floss that I used off my tag I don't think I could!!! It is too tight now the tag has expanded around it. I don't know if what I have done is working or whether I have done a silly silly thing!!!

I have a Drs appointment on thursday to discuss surgery with her but i don't want to go if it is still black like this because I think the dr will be angry I tried to do it myself. What does anyone think? I would massively appreciate your ideas!

anon11710

just did this, lots of blood and some pain.

anon11681

has anyone had anal skin tags? Do you think these methods are safe in this area too?

anon11500

thanks everyone for your advice and encouragement. my husband has several of these skin tags that he always wants me to clip off, but I am squeamish about these sorts of things and I always told him no. when he found this article and sent the link to me I agreed to do it. I still didn't like it, but I did it and it worked perfectly. I would recommend either old fashioned floss, the really skinny kind with no wax, or thread to tie it off. the one we used was a thicker kind of floss so the cut wasn't quite as close to the skin as he would have liked. in any case the biggest one is gone and I will do the others for him soon.

anon11434

i've been putting iodine solution on mine for about a week and 1/2 twice a day and one of my 3 just fell off. granted, i had been picking at it a lot, but it fell off with no pain and no blood. one of the other ones has shrunk a lot and the 3rd one turned red and looks like it is about to fall off. doing this is no pain and no clippers. yay!

anon11406

Thanks everyone for your input. Experience was just as described. I'm also squeamish, thought I couldn't do it. After the first one, I removed all 4. So grateful for your help-thanks ever so much.

anon11362

I had one of these pesky things on my armpit for quite some time until tonight. The last couple of days it had started annoying me as it was catching all the time on my clothes. I had no alcohol wipes or anything like that and due to location, it was near impossible to wrap string or floss around the base (although i did try). I put the clippers under running hot water for a minute or so to sterilize them and just went for it. No pain and no blood and now i'm rid of the nuisance :). Thanks for the info. Thought i'd have to see a doc to get this done but DIY'd it instead.

anon11303

Castor oil & baking soda - has anyone tried this and if so, tell us how you did it and how it went from beginning to end, please.

Also, has anyone used this on a skin "flap" on their anus? (I have one left over from a 'roid but am kind of scared to try it. It doesn't have a stalk like the skin tags described in the forum).

Thanks for ANY info or advice!

anon11246

I just cut three off. I am pleased to say they are all gone and I am thrilled. I used waxed floss and scissors. One was large and the other two were small. They all bleed for five minutes or so but now it stopped. This is a blessing because they are ugly and I hate going to the doctors. I was very embarrassed to tell my Doc. Thank all of you for giving testimony on these ugly things.

shocku

I had two skin tags in the inner thigh area that bothered me when I walked so I remembered what my coach use to say "just rub some dirt on it and you'll be all right". So I did and it hurt like h*ll and its now infected. just kidding!!! = ) just trying to lighten things up a bit.

But seriously! I didn't have any alcohol or HP around the house and I couldn't take it anymore so I took some mouthwash "which is an antispectic anyway" and after washing the area I rubbed it around the skin tags. I then used some dr.sholles "freeze away" and froze the tags. I took my clipers and snip! snip!. no pain at all! and only my bigger tag bleed just a little. I then applied some neosporin on a band aid and put them on over night.

That's it! I'm free of these pestering tags! thanks everyone for the info. And NO, I didn't use the string either.

clknotz

The tag that I have isn't like the ones normally described. It does not narrow at its base. It is about pea size and the same width at the base as it is at the top. Has anyone removed one like this? It is on the inside of my thigh, so right where my boxers and pants will rub. I am wondering how tying it off works with such a big base and how the healing goes with such a large wound afterwards.

anon10691

I was suffering with a pea sized skin tag on the back of my arm for years. I received a disposable scalpel with some gardening equipment I bought recently and decided to use that to do the job. I heated the blade with a lighter so that it was definitely sterile, and sliced through it one go, there was very little sense of pain but it did bleed for some 15 minutes. Now its gone, I am so happy! Just do it!

anon10594

Whoa. OK so years back I had one of these suckers on my nipple! It was awful and I was so freaked out. I went to a doctor all scared that I was dying or growing a third nipple or something equally horrifying. I was a young broke college girl and the guy snipped it right off no pain nothing. So now, years later here I am with my armpit itching all the time...and lo and behold I finally investigate why for days I have been having this irritation...skin tag! Damn. So I just did it, no nothing, no cleaning, no thread (could not get it on my armpit at that angle) cuticle clippers without any of that pesky alcohol or anything. I live on the edge. I did it, it stung mildly, like a mosquito bite. Its gone, no bleeding, lets just hope I don't die from a nasty infection!

anon10544

Just done this now a bit ghetto style - tag was in a bit of an awkward place juuuuust in reach on my back, and am living in China at the moment so don't have anyone I can ask for help with - hence I couldn't get a loop knot around it, don't have a freezer to get ice from, and don't have any particularly short scissors (which, I suppose, I could go out and buy, but I'm also really lazy). So, after getting as cold a shower as I could manage I hacked away with a pair of somewhat blunt swiss army scissors. It took a bit of a going, to be honest, more pinching between the scissor blades than being cut. Didn't hurt much though, really, although it wasn't as far down the tag as I'd have liked. Either way, it's off now and still didn't bleed too much... is clotting up now. I think a bit of thread would've made the whole thing smoother, and I wouldn't recommend doing it like I have, but if for whatever reason you're in a similar situation to me it's not much more trouble!

Once it's off it's interesting just how disgusting they are. I must admit there was a mild temptation to put it in someone's sandwich, but I'm not quite that mean...

anon10509

I was wondering how the person who tried castor oil and baking soda is doing...I've been going for 2 days and not much is happening.

anon10425

I used all three methods tonight. I will say the canned air must be used carefully with the included straw as to minimize any damage to the skin surrounding. I left the floss around it of about an hour. I froze it and then used manicure scissors. It was painless except for actually seeing what your doing (if you know what I mean). It did bleed quite a bit and I would recommend to be near a tub depending on the location of the tag. Mine was a larger one so I'd say my shock value was high. It worked for me... I guess to each their own.

anon10402

I once used a can of compressed air upside down to numb the tag, but you have to be very careful not to burn the surrounding skin. I am thinking combining all three might make a good suggestion. Use floss to isolate, canned air to deaden, scissors to cut. I'll try and post back!

anon10332

I did it!!! I posted last night and was too chicken to try it until this morning. It was nothing. It was gone before the extremely _small_ pinch came and this was a _big_ skin tag -- I've had it for _years_ !!! I've had more painful pimples than that!!! I realize my excitement seems a bit odd, but I have truly suffered with my self confidence and having small children play with/or point to the big brown spot on my neck was near horrifying. Again, I realize it is just a skin tag to most, but to me it was bigger than a mountain. Thank you so much to all your comments. I followed the nurse-poster's protocol as I have to be careful of infections and so far so good.

anon10313

Wow, sounds scary, but I have had one for years and it is annoying. Not to mention a little painful (getting caught in necklaces) but embarrassing. Little kids always point to it. I have had them removed by a doc before and frankly I thought that was painful. I will repost when I get up my nerve to do it. Thanks a ton!!!

anon10230

I too had an unsightly skin tag. It was located directly below my left eye. I only recently discovered it was a skin tag, and had no idea that it could be removed.

I followed the nurse-poster's instructions, to the letter, and cut the tag off myself. (after tying it off with dental floss) It bled lightly for about two minutes, and the pain was a non-issue. I'll keep you posted on the healing process.

Thanks for making this post. I have had that tag for 20 years, and always hated it. Who knew the internet could be used for good. Thanks.

anon10215

I followed the advice of anon1381 (nurse?) and have to say this went relatively easy.. cleansed area with iodine, boiled nail clippers 10 min, tied thread around skin tag tightly at the base(15min), iced it down 2 min prior and snip! The sound grossed me out more than the pain which was very minimal. Surprisingly there wasn't much bleeding either. Thanks to to entire thread and anon1381 for the advice.

anon9919

I had no idea I could just snip them with nail clippers. I got rid of half a dozen that have been on my neck forever in about two minutes. Just a slight pinch, nothing more. So easy and painless.

anon9636

I have just used the tying off method on a rather large skin tag. my doctor tied it with a piece of cotton thread and 5 days later it was plumper! I didn't expect this, so i went to see the doctor again and he said it wasn't tight enough and had swollen. Anyway, he re-tied it and it was very tight, it hurt for a couple of seconds and then felt fine. Within 24 hours the color started to fade from it. After 3 days it was smaller and darker. it eventually came off after 5 days in my sleep. So my point is that if it doesn't start to lose its color within 24 hours it may not be tight enough. There was very little pain or discomfort when it was tied.

anon9527

I had a troublesome skin tag in my groin (around the size of a small pea), where it rubbed against my underwear was a considerable source of irritation.

Finally I decided to do something about it, so I tightly tied it off at the base with some cotton. This caused a little discomfort and stinging. By the next morning, the tag was an angry red/black color and weeping a little. Not good, so I steeled myself and snipped it off with a pair of nail scissors I'd previously boiled in water for 10 minutes. This was painless, and it came cleanly away. The wound bled quite freely and heavily for around 5 minutes. I cleaned it and dressed it, and it's been fine ever since.

anon9329

The nail clippers work great! I'd used scissors on one before and it was hard to get them in the right position and it hurt more. This time, I didn't use any floss because it was too small, but it barely bled anyway and all I felt was the pressure of the clippers. I'm so relieved I read this article!

anon9312

I did it! I had these things for years I think. I thought they were warts but I asked a doctor about them when I went in for an ear infection. She said "I can make an appointment for my partner to snip them off" I was shocked! I can snip them off myself is all I can think. I'm sure it would have been over a hundred to do it. I used the nurses method and it worked great. They were on my neck for the most part. I had 3 around my eyes so I couldn't use the floss due to the small size. I just used the ice and clipped with the nail clippers. They came right off I was amazed. One is still bleeding so I have to go. Good luck all

anon9041

Can you use peroxide if you don't have alcohol?

anon8891

So I read this thread and decided to take another shot at removing the large skin tag located along my bikini line. It's been there for over a year and I was sick of it. So I followed the same procedure as suggested by the nurse and snipped it off with a pair of clippers. My skin tag had a relatively thick stalk and after several attempts at just squeezing the clippers, I finally just looked away and did it. While I could still feel it, it didn't necessarily hurt and the pain was lessened by not actually looking at it...duh. I would definitely recommend tying the floss around the base of the stalk because mine bled a lot afterwards without it. If you have a small or thin skin tag then I would definitely suggest cutting it off yourself because mine was about as large as a mole and it just barely hurt. Good luck!

anon8614

I was too squeamish to cut it with clippers even after I had disinfected everything! The clippers were just too small and the tag is at an awkward angle on my neck. So I went out and bought Dr.Scholl's "Freeze Away" to try on the tag. I applied it about 10 minutes ago, and finally, that incessant pain from having a tag is gone! It's still there, but it has shrunk a little and hopefully will continue to do so. Absolutely no pain in applying the freeze applicator and definitely no pain following it. I'll post again to let you all know how well it worked and if it removed the tag.

anon8343

Several months ago I found two skin tags in my groin area. One had become very irritated, so I figured, “How much could it hurt to just cut it off?” So I cut it off with some fingernail clippers. The pain was far worse than I ever imagined and the bleeding seemed to never end. So I left the other one until today when it became irritated. I so was dreading cutting it off, remembering all the pain and blood from the first one, but after a day of procrastination, I finally just took a pair of scissors and cut it off. To my surprise it didn't even hurt. Not even a little bit. It took about 5 minutes to stop bleeding and now it's over. Reading the above postings gave me the courage to cut it off and now it’s gone. Thanks to everyone who wrote.

anon8086

I just decided to try the nurse's advice for removing skin tags. Can I just say, I'm really squeamish about knives, needles, etc. Although I thought I might lose it just from my heart palpitating, LOL, I gave it a try. I had a very small tag that tripled in size due to pregnancy, and I was very uncomfortable about it. It hurt and was always in the way, but doctors are costly. Following the methods posted above (with the exception of leaving the ice on longer due to paranoia), not only did I remove the tag in one shot, but there was absolutely no blood and such a small cut that it won't even scar. Even a doctor couldn't do better than that! Thanks for the freeing advice. I feel better already.

anon8073

The hardest part was tying the dental floss. The procedure worked like a charm. Only the slightest bit of pain. Well worth it! If you can enlist a family member to help, all the better. Thanks for the suggestion! I was just about to order some high priced goop on-line. Glad I found this site!

anon7634

Why was I walking around with these disgusting things on my neck!?!?! The nurse's instructions worked great. I did every step she suggested and it was so embarrassingly easy. Don't even bother with the other suggestions, this one was a winner. Now my neck is as smooth as before. No bleeding either, you can barely tell where they were. Thanks for the tips!

anon7330

I tried the wart remover. Very painful! Actually burned my skin. So I'm excited about this info. I'm going to try the nurse's plan. Will let you know. Thanks for this article!

anon7261

I was VERY squeamish about removing the tag myself. Only recently had it been giving me any type of discomfort. My husband tied a piece of thread around it on saturday morning, by sunday evening, the thread and the skin tag was gone. Very minimal pain during the initial tying of the thread and, an occasional dull aching type of sensation. No bleeding or soreness. A definite solution, free of charge.

anon7036

Thanks to the nurse for the advice on how to do. I took off 6 in about 10 minutes. I didn't use dental floss though. I used tweezers to pull the buggers out a bit then had wife use small pair of scissors to cut them off. The 1st 4 had no bleeding at all! The biggest one actually bled some. Thanks again. I hated getting having them getting stuck in my sweaters and t-shirts!

JanB

I am convinced that if you tie the tags tight enough they will just drop off in a day or 2, I have tied 2 on my neck and will keep you posted as to whether they fall off or not........

Loom

I am in the process of using the wart remover. It is very painful. The areas on my neck that I applied it to are infected. I should have just clipped them off. i would not recommend this method to anyone.

Sveltegirl

Did the castor oil and baking soda work for anyone?

anon6739

OK, that was a bit more painful than I thought it would be.. it took me about 5 attempts before I had the courage to go all the way past the initial pinch pain.

Though I'm glad I got the bulk of it, I guess I couldn't get close enough to the dental floss to remove the whole thing. So now I have a tiny one... I tried trimming that some more, but it started bleeding so I stopped.

Should I worry about it growing back now, since the "root" is still there? Or will it remain the same size now that it lost its head? (Wow, this sounds so strange)

I just cut one off with cuticle clippers, no dental floss, I squeezed them down till I felt a pinch and it had already been cut through. It really only felt like being pinched by someone. No pain more than that. I'd would definitely do it with sterile equipment, but pain should not be a reason to not do it.

Skin tag warriors unite!....I had some in my groin area. I took the advice of using ice first and because I was too chicken, I then asked my wife to snip them with a pair of small scissors. (the kind used to cut hang nails). Worked great! One bled quite a bit but applying pressure stopped it after 5 minutes or so.

I was too nervous to do the "cut" myself. But the article and the detailed description from the nurse was very helpful. I had my husband read it before asking him to cut the skin tag off my neck. A straight edge nail clipper is a must. Our nail clipper had a little curve so a little skin came off along with the tag. Thank you so much for posting this article.

Too good to be true? I developed a skin tag "down there" after having my baby almost a year ago. It was ugly and I had a hard time feeling sexy with it there. I read through all of these posts looking for the horror story, I couldn't imagine that it could be soo easy. I am VERY squeamish, I can't even dig out my own splinter, so the thought of cutting off this piece of flesh was bone tingling. But, since nobody else seemed to have a problem with it I thought that I would give it a try. WOW!! I did follow the nurse's instructions (plus I put on a little triple antibiotic plus, you know with the pain killer). As I stood in my bathroom with a string over the tag and the clippers positioned over the base of the tag I was saying to myself (outloud), "just do it, Do It, DO IT!" But I couldn't bring myself to do the quick snap of the clippers. I found myself slowly pinching them. Finally, I decided that I didn't have it in me and I pulled the clippers away. What!?! The tag was in the clippers!!! I promise, there was NO PAIN. I didn't even realize that I had pinched the clippers hard enough. Thank you, thank you for this article!!!

Irritated and painful had become this new companion in my groin area. I found this website and followed the procedure posted by the nurse. Hesitant I was due to the pain I was already experiencing from the rubbing when walking. At each step leading up to the cut I anticipated the coming pain, but was delighted to be disappointed. But now for the cut. Clenching my teeth I squeezed the clipper. Anticlimactic it was. No pain. No blood. Sweet relief. Thanks to all those involved.

This article is great.. I tried to clip it with a nail clipper and it bled way too much.. Perhaps because I am taking Iron supplements..

I have decided to just get rid of them as much as possible by using a string..

How can I apply the string to the lowest part of the stalk? I am using dental floss as of now.. Is there anything better?

These skin tags are getting out of control on my groin which is why I am worried about clipping etc.. But some of them are too small to tie the string around

What should I do ?

I just think it is gross when a woman runs her hand across my bare back and feels them. Thanks for the info. I will give it a try.

I've just used the clipper method & it was completely painless. I pulled the dental floss as tight as I could and then clipped! I forgot to leave the floss tied on for a bit so it's bleeding at present but hopefully not for much longer!

yikes!! i developed a tag on my neck during my second pregnancy--i've been dying to get it removed. i don't think my medical insurance will cover it though. i will try one of the above suggestions. any word on if they ever grow back in the same place?

I had tried the wart remover product and didn't like the smell and that it affected the surrounding skin around the tag so I eventually stopped applying it.

Tonight I decided to again look at removing the tag which is fairly small and located mid rib. My intention was to try using just the dental floss and tie the tag off, allowing nature to take its course. Sitting there with the loop on snug and floss ends dangling to me was like I was a kid, slowly inching off a bandaid rather removing it in one quick less painful swoop. I decided to take it to the next step and use small scissors in removing the tag.

I did follow the methods given in the above comments by the nurse. I gathered my materials and kept everything very clean and ready to go. I found that applying a bit of ice beforehand worked well and you could tell the sensation was dulled. Truthfully, it did not hurt. Jabbing my finger with a sewing needle is more uncomfortable.

This is my own experience, I just now this evening did this. My suggestion is do what you feel is right for you whether that is see a doctor about removal or if you feel the tag is small enough to do yourself (given you have the proper prepped supplies on hand).

I am in the process of trying the castor oil and baking powder paste to remove my skin tag. I will repost in a couple of weeks to let you know if it worked or not.

Thanks for the advice, I just finished my self-surgery. I followed the instructions and removed a skin tag. I was planning on going to the doctor to do it, but after reading what is involved (and that this procedure is not covered by most health insurance plans), I decided to save some time and a lot of money.

Follow the instructions exactly. The best part of the advice is to use the ice to numb the area a bit before you clip the skin off.

I am a squeamish person when it comes to things like this, so I was definitely grossed out by this procedure but I got through it because you guys let me know exactly what to do.

Thank you!

hi, i was just wondering if there is anyone who used the Castor oil and baking soda to remove their skin tag? If so please can you provide me with information on how it went? if it worked, did it hurt, are there any scars? and so on.

anon3466

I tried it and it works like a charm!

I just recently took off an annoying skin tag near my armpit, I clipped them with nail clippers now it's bleeding, how long should I put pressure on it before it stops?

Is this expected? I didn't tie it off or anything, perhaps I cut to low?

Thanks for posting such a useful article and a special thanks to the nurse who posted about using nail clippers. Scissors are clumsy when using them backward in a mirror and can be hit-and-miss; nail clippers are spot on and "click!" the tag is gone. With my largest neck tag, I had to clip it three times to get it all!

My only addendum to this would be that I used a pair of tweezers (as suggested) to completely cut off the blood supply - it also gave me a large white flat bit of skin to aim for when cutting!

I've had lot's of skin tags over the years. I usually went to the doctor to have them removed. Recently I found a plastic tweezer used to remove ticks. It has a locking mechanism. I use that to hold the skin tag and then wrap the string around it. It gives you the ability to get the entire tag off with one clip of a small pair of sharp scissors. I highly recommend following the previous post by the nurse on how she prepped the area before and after. In case you can't stop the bleeding I've also used septic sticks. I recently found a spray on powder that does much the same thing.

I have had skin tags for years, and they had become so unsightly and numerous around my neck and underarms that I was embarrassed to wear low-necked or sleeveless shirts, not to mention I had two rather large tags growing very close together on my neck that would get stuck on my necklaces. I wanted them taken care of and I wanted it done quickly, not some long drawn out process of applying ointment or tinctures for 2 months to slowly "melt" away my skin tags. I read this and thought I'd give it a try. The only thing that made me hesitant was the pain factor. Now, I can usually handle quite a bit of pain, but its the anticipation of that pain, that I'm consciously inflicting on myself, that I was worried about. Alas, I gave it a try. Here was my method:

Being a nurse, I knew the importance of proper cleansing of not only the nail clippers, but also the skin surrounding the tag. I cleansed the area to a radius of about 2 inches around each tag with alcohol and a firm rubbing motion. I then cleansed my nail clippers (use the larger ones if possible for easier handling and ease in fitting the tag between the blades) with alcohol and let both air dry for few minutes to ensure sterility. While they were drying, I took a long piece of thin dental floss (the long strings made it easier to handle) and tied a little loop in the center. I then looped it around the tag, working it as far down to the skin as possible. I found it helpful to pull out on the tag a bit to make sure the string was all the way down on the stalk. I pulled the strings as tight as possible to cut off as much of the blood supply as I could. I also found that if I left it tied very tightly for a few minutes, it decreased the sensation in the tag and thus, decreased that whole "pain factor". Before I went to cutting, I held an ice pack on the area for 30 seconds or so to further decrease the sensation and blood supply to the area. I grabbed my nail clippers and carefully placed the whole tag between the blades as far down towards the floss as possible. And squeezed. The pain was very minimal; just a pinching feeling. It hurt less than some of the times I had gotten them caught in clothing or jewelry. I left the string on the stalk as long as possible to decrease the amount of bleeding after I had cut off the tag. I applied some pressure with gauze for a few minutes and applied a bandaid tightly over the area for about another 10 minutes. After I was sure the bleeding had stopped, I cleaned the area again with some soap and water and applied antibiotic cream.

Now my neck and underarms are free from those unsightly skin tags and I can feel free to wear low-neck shirts and tank tops again! :)
