What are the Most Common Propolis Benefits?

Propolis is a natural resin that is collected by bees and used to help build their hives. For centuries, people have used propolis for a variety of medical ailments. Today, this substance is gaining popularity again. Some of the more common propolis benefits include the ability to ward off illness, treat allergies, fight inflammation, and treat burns and wounds. Propolis is also used to treat a variety of dental problems, and studies have shown that it may help to kill harmful cancer cells.

Bee propolis is often referred to as a natural antibiotic, and it also helps ward off illnesses that are caused by viruses, which typical antibiotics can't affect. One of the major propolis benefits is its ability to treat a variety of different illnesses. Recent studies have shown that propolis can greatly shorten the duration of a common cold or flu, and propolis lozenges can be used to treat a sore throat. Not only do the lozenges soothe a painful scratchy throat, but propolis also kills the bacteria that causes bad breath.

One of the more curious propolis benefits is its ability to treat allergies. Many scientists agree that propolis has natural anti-histamine properties, and the symptoms of seasonal allergies can possibly be reduced by taking propolis. Nasal sprays with propolis have been used to treat runny noses associated with both colds and allergies.

Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, propolis could be a potential treatment for inflammatory diseases. This could be excellent news for those who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. Laboratory research also suggests that when used in the form of a cream or ointment, propolis can help reduce the inflammation caused by cervicitis and vaginitis.

Probably one of the oldest ways that propolis has been used is in the treatment of minor burns and wounds. Research suggests that when a topical solution of propolis is applied to a wound or burn, the injured area seems to heal faster. It is believed by many scientists that propolis can help speed up the process of tissue regeneration.

Propolis has been used for numerous dental problems. It seems that certain bad bacteria in the mouth can be nearly eliminated by gargling with a solution of propolis extract, providing relief for gingivitis sufferers. Propolis has also been used as a dental adhesive and sealant, and it has been said that it even reduces dental pain and plaque formation.

Experimental research has shown that cancer treatment could soon become another of the many propolis benefits. In laboratory tests, scientists tested the propolis on prostate cancer cells. The results showed that, unlike chemotherapy, propolis was able to kill cancer cells while keeping healthy cells intact. Although this research is still ongoing, it could prove quite promising for future cancer patients.

I'm using a propolis cream on my face for acne. It was recommended to me by a doctor. I did not believe that it would work but when I found a very affordable propolis cream, I decided to give it a try.

It's actually working! I have been using the cream for two weeks and I have not had any new pimples. The pimples I had have healed. I still have blemishes but no more breakouts. I plan to continue using this cream. I might also buy propolis honey for more benefits of bee propolis.

@donasmrs-- As far as I know, propolis extract has benefits for both conditions. It may prevent them or help fight them.

Propolis has antifungal and antiviral properties. It's also an anti-inflammatory and an immune system booster. So it will help the body fight yeast fungus as well as the virus that causes cold sores. I've actually seen a study on the effects of propolis on the herpes virus. As you know, herpes type 1 causes cold sores. The study found that propolis can help herpes blisters heal faster.

So both you and your husband would benefit from a propolis supplement.

I would like to know if bee propolis has benefits for yeast infections and my husband would like to know if it has benefits for cold sores.
